Someone had to start it... Post em up!
Opening day doe. Stepped out around 1pm. Now for that bruiser...
Congrats murph, that looks like a good size doe.
Nice doe and great shot placement. probably didn't go too far huh?
Thanks fellas. Yeah, it hit a little forward, but my new NAP spitfire mechanicals (recommendation from this site!) blew up her shoulder and went through her heart. It was a full pass through and she ran about 70 yards.
Very nice, Murph... that broadhead certainly did the job. Congratulations.
Good job Murphy !!!! That's some good eatin there
Opening morning 8pt.....1st light 4 yrds....let's hope you guys see me with the MONSTER 10 sometime in the near future
Congrats! That's an awesome deer!
Nice looking deer 8s way to start the season. Congrats!!! Been stuck at zone w all week be out Saturday hopefully with good results
Thanks Guys! Congrats on your deer as well Murph! Good luck rest of the way out!
What a deer 8's!! Hopefully you post another pic of him on the ground soon
Went out yesterday despite the warm weather and high winds. Had this deer come in at around 4:30. It only got around 40 yards and was dead in minutes. Im pretty sure it was a heart shot...was only a 10 yard shot. it was the weirdest deer I ever shot. Upon coming up on it and field dressing it, the spike I thought I shot turn out to be a female with spikes...to make it even more weird, her spikes were very different sizes and were still in full velvet???
Wow that is weird!! Congrats!
Wow, MG, that's amazing. Literally a hermaphrodite deer. I've seen pic's and read little snipits about them over the years, but never knew someone who shot one. Very cool!
Buddy's deer... post em up!
Congrats on the deer mgbhunt. That is very interesting....i am glad you provided a picture, else I would be concerned you shot a goat ;)
Mgb that's cool !! Congratulations !!
MGB congrats and that's some crazy stuff.
Awesome MGB, definitely put up some more pics!
Moons, great for your buddy and cousin, where's yours? ;^)
Awesome guys. Would love to get a close up of the deer MGB
Here are three pics of the transgender politically correct buck/doe
In one, u can see one of the small spikes still with velvet just in front of the ear
In another, u can see the utters just where the legs are crossed.
The other is if the deer just before the shot
Buddy just shot a nice 8 this am in Berkshire.
Sorry for the multiple post. Do t no how to get all the pics in one
Those spikes look like they're about 2 and 15/16" long... Right???
I just read that their spikes don't get very long and are often different lengths. Also, because they can't generate enough testosterone, they are always in velvet. The chances of an antlered doe is 0.10%. One spike was 3 inch. The other about 5
Your Keeping the head, I hope . Taxidermist ?
MGB what is that growing off the side in front of rear driver's side left leg in first pic? Dude I think you shot a unicornamcdoe.
Oh boy all the activists are gonna be after you for killing a transgender deer. Lol
That is a true trophy be proud of that deer none of us may ever see that again
Bwaaaaahahahahha. Now that's funny!!!!
Great comments!!! Too funny :)
6PT came in. Took all day to find him
8 pointer at last light! First Buck, super stoked
Nice buck zone11! Carpediem, I'm not sure your happy enough ha!
Monday evening! 176.4 dressed
Big boy !! Congratulations !!
Nice buck, I just noticed that extra point near the base of right antler, very cool!
Ewade I did not notice until I viewed it on computer rather than phone what a crazy branch off the right side. So unique. He is very cool. Congrats
Awesome buck. Hope you save that rack.
Tough tracking this big bruiser over an hour later with very little blood trail big bodied 6 pointer was found.

Week2 Day 1, seems to be a theme for me. 132 lb doe, shes a fatty!!
good job guys, rain or shine
Nice job... my buddy shot a small 10 pt last night.
Jeepers Creepers Ewade and Tinknocker, with Halloween around the corner the freaky racks are coming out! That's a great doe Huntingwm! Tinknocker... story on that one?
Day 2 z4n 151lbs smoked him at 58 yds
treestalker that's one hell of a shot! Well done !
Nice buck... that's one of the longest shots I've heard of in MA.
$16.00 a dozen Does the job as it should.
$16.00 a dozen Does the job as it should.
Huntingwm's Link
Nice deer Tink, and fellas! You know, I used a (rhymes with sage) copy that I got a 12 pak for on Amazon for $16.00. Say what you will, that broadhead deployed and blew a hole clean through her, both sides, she didnt make it 30 yds. Im putting the link in to the broadheads. I was able to target practice with a broadhead and reuse it, (with a haybales backer) I only used the broadhead once after sighting in with same weight target tips, was right on. I didnt use the broadhead Id practiced with on this doe, but it was in perfect shape. Heres a pic, reviews were great, and now I know why. I am going to order more of these to have on hand. At this price, one cant afford not to stock up. Just my humble opinion.
Thanks for the kind words normally wouldn't take a shot like that but I had a pre ranged marker on a old cart rd with nothing but air between me and him right through both lungs he ran 75 yds and went down
Nothing wrong with long shots. If you are confident and practice at those distances take'em. Also they often give you an opportunity to focus on your shot form and you are usually shooting at unalerted deer.
Tekoa
I practice out that far every time I shoot and am very confident Out that far with my setup but I don't get that many real life chances to put it two the test . Thanks again guys for all the kind words there's a lot of good info on this site
Shot this Am right before I was about to climb Down for work. Stared at my trail cam and smelled it for a little while than processed and gave me a 15 yard complete pass threw and lost the arrow since it completely imbedded into the ground. Completely blessed for this opportunity been 2 years since I have harvested one.
Two years?! I think I would go crazy. I guess deer must be scarce out West here. Good job, that is a nice doe
Nice deer everyone! TylerP, a number of times I've had them come in when I'm half way down the tree headed for work. This morning was an example actually. It seems to me that the solution is to not go to work.
Oneday, here out west we have pockets of deer but bigger woods then the east so more area for them to go instead of by your stand. The last deer I shot was 3 seasons ago. I could break the streak this year but work is doing everything in its power to not make that happen. Congrats all!
Nice deer Tyler, nice barn too! I'd kill for that type of space under a roof
6 point, Zone 10
6 point, Zone 10
Got it done in zone 10 tonight. Small 6 point for the freezer. Couldn't be happier. Get in the woods guys the break in the weather has them on their feet. Plus the shit that's about to hit Sunday into Monday will keep them feeding.
Great job guys !! Congratulations
Great job Tyler and buckshot!
Great job Tyler and buckshot!
Second of the season. No more antlerless tags left, so I'm really hoping I see one of the big boys I've got on camera from this summer.
Good work everyone.
No deer around me this morning but I got a hen turkey.
BMurphyJr I was there this morning dropping off my deer must have just missed you! Nice deer.
1st deer with the new reign 6 love this bow!
Congratulations jon bow!! Nice deer !! I have the Reign7 awesome bow !!
Wow! Look at all of those critters bagged with a bow! Congratulations, guys.
Awesome job guys, Buwhubt3138 I'm so jealous! Nice!
Congrats to the successful hunter so far. Hopefully much more to come.
Nice looking deer, hopefully this week will bring in some more action!
Starting to see you guys putting some down, nice work!
Went up to NH for opening day of muzzleloader, sat in an area I saw good sign in last year but hadn't set foot there this year. Plenty of fresh tracks and everything just felt right. At 915 I heard birds and chipmunks making noise about 100 yds away so I knew something was nearby, a minute later this buck came into view at 15 yards and gave me a clear shot. First deer I've seen this season, and the first time I've been thankful for chipmunks sounding their alarm!
MY buddy shot a 198lb 6 point Sat afternoon in zone 2.
Congratulations, Wachusett... good looking buck!
Ungie... that's a beefy 6 point. Congrats to your buddy.
very nice wachusett! fill hat freezer
Excellent Wachusett! Love checking in, in the morning and seeing the Meatpole thread at the top
Nice buck Wachusett! Ungie get your buddy to post a picture here!
Thanks fellas. Ungie I'd love to see a picture that's a hell of a 6 pointer. Biggest deer I ever saw in the woods was like a 4 pt with brow times making him a 6. Each side looked like huge lobster claws, had to be a 24 + inch spread easy
My buddies 198lb Berkshire 6pt
stopped by my butcher's shop today. Some big bucks hanging.. nice big 10 and another HUGE 6 point.. no brows. about 18" wide and thick. Dressed well over 200. Several other respectable rack bucks as well.
Congrats Wachusett nice buck. Dang those Berkshires have some big boys!
Another buddy shot a big bodied mature 8 last night in zone 2 (October Mtn). Nice Heavy rack. And another shot a nice 7 point last pm.
Ungie I got to be one of your buddies.
Got this small racked, but decent body buck yesterday in Zone 10. He walked out around 4pm and stopped perfectly on the spot where I had put a down a little tarsal gland scent. He ran about 100 yards before crashing hard, but left an easy blood trail to follow. Couldn't be happier to get the skunk out of the season and some meat in the freezer.
Congratulations Woodman !! Great shot !!
Buddy shot a big 9 in Peru last night. Dressed in 180s
"Get the skunk out" ... I like that . Good on you woodsman.
Nice one Woodsman! Ungie, tell your friends to stop shooting all the deer!
Got a doe this evening... average size. Still have one buck tag and a surplus doe tag for Zone 11.
Loaded on the hawk deer cart.
Nice buck, Dth! What zone?
That's a great buck DFA !! Good job !!
Good deer Dth and woodsman.. I got to look into one of the carts DTH. Must save a lot of labor dragging.
Was blessed to have a 15 yrd shot on him broadside. Used the CAN to pull him in. Deer was down with in 50 yrds.
Way to go, DeanMan... those short tracking jobs are the best. Congratulations!
Story on "long night ahead" thread
Mine was Z11 south coast. Guys great deer!! Taz when I grow up I want to be like you!!! Always seem to get the big ones to hit the ground. Dino someone above is keeping an eye out for you. Great job
Taz he is a beauty! Congrats on another bruiser! Shawn thank you brother and congratulations once again on Awesome! 8 now go get that monster! MOONS and Jimbo thank you. Jumbo congrats on ur doe you harvested recently, I think ur going to need another freezer!
You guys rock ! Well done
Dean congrats - that's awesome! Taz - again, well done! Shawn - he's a beauty!
Shot this big mature "6" point in zone 3 yesterday at 7:30AM at about 15 yards...
Ungie, you and Taz must kill more big deer than anyone on here. Well done guys. Ungie, this has gotta be what like 4 years in a row with mature bucks, and usually 2+ a year?
Ungie and Taz, those are some beauties. Keep em coming guys.
I wish Bigwoods... I do ok... I shot 2 big mature bucks last year.. only a couple of small ones the year before, but I did shoot 3 goods ones in MA & CT the year prior. It's hit or miss... just lucky I guess
Haha i'm going to say you are more humble than lucky. The one thing that separates luck from skill is "consistently" killing mature deer.
Hitting the mark again and again definitely isn't luck, it's skill. Or maybe the deer think you guys smell good or something. Nice work!
My brothers first bow deer shot him first light out of my #2 stand
Great day so far, nicely done boys!
Took this little button buck around 8:20 this morning my first Massachusetts deer and first with a bow. Zone 10
Took this little button buck around 8:20 this morning my first Massachusetts deer and first with a bow. Zone 10
Outstanding! A first bow deer... a first Massachusetts deer... and three guys who cleaned out the woods this morning!
Nice job by congratulations
Congrats on all the deer! Things seem to be heating up now
Nice job to all way to get it done
Been following the forum for a while. Finally decided to join. Friday, zone 9 was kind to me.
Congratulations PLH that's a hell of a buck !!
Someone's gonna have a taxidermy bill!
Congrats all. PLH wow awesome rack!
Congrats guys some nice deer!!
That's a great buck, PLH! Congratulations!
Thanks. He is at the taxidermist now. Biggest deer I've seen in the woods, and he almost snuck by me. Don't know how a 200lb animal makes no noise walking.

Saw him last year chasing a doe, but had no shot. He gained a lot of mass in the body and antlers since then.
Awesome buck, congratulations!
Public- , Dang ! Makes a darn good Typical ! Good of you to join in .
I love what I'm seeing on this thread! Congrats everyone!
I guess this freak was shot in northern Berkshire County yesterday
holy shit they do exist! look at the girth ( thats what she said haha) but dam and that drop tine, i wanna find out what it scored
awesome deer public, nice job guys
Now that is a Mature deer. Girthalongdrop. ! We shall find out but I know it isn't a Connectusup deer. They have miniature , wee little things that are hardly breathing...
Ungie word is it’s his first buck!!
Dang! That. Is. A. Big. Buck! And it's here in Massachusetts! Yowser!
Wow, nothing else to say.
That is my brother in law Rich. It is his second buck with a bow Rich is a high school teacher as well as an avid sportsman. That buck is a giant rough scored 170s 200 # a great deer for a great guy
Hats off to him what a beast!!!
Holy sh******** congrats to him!!!!'
I'm stoked for him Bowhunterman ! Buck of a lifetime nevermind that it is a Mass Buck!!
I'm stoked for him Bowhunterman ! Buck of a lifetime nevermind that it is a Mass Buck!!
Bowhunterman, congrats to your brother in law! Unbelievable
I saw that pic of the mega giant on the BBH facebook group last weekend. the guy's wife is a member and posted it... AMAZING deer!
What a beautiful morning. Had 5 doe around me all morning , was hoping a buck would come by to check them out. No such luck. I shot a doe just before climbing down. Shot her at 20 yards and she died under my stand. Look closely. Perfect !!
Now THAT, is a good "Selfie" :)
She is small enough to be an ornament on your bow. Kidding , I saw it right off and was going to tell you to turn around... Good going .
Congrats. Easy blood trail right there.
Love it when happens, especially when getting dark. Enjoy your drag,...........
now thats, hunting for meat! congrats.
My buddy took his son last night and the kid shot a nice little 8 point. Another buddy shot a nice chunky 3.5 year old 7 point this am.
Damn Ungie, the Shires are loaded this year! I may have lost my zone 2 spot I have to check with landowner.
Spike, what town you hunting in zone 2?
Kept forgetting to put him on here... if I had a youtube channel I'd post a little vid I took of a 4pt in CT last night too - "catch and release". He offered a LOT of shots. A few times I almost picked up the bow... But my wife had sent me on a mission to "shoot a doe, they taste good"... so unless it was a big buck or doe, I was going to hold off... Not sure I am "strong" enough to do it many more times. Deer from 5-15yds away eating acorns and constantly posing broadside/quartering away tempt my taste buds to much...
Nice job Will ! Here I got a note/pass for you...
Please excuse my son from holding back on shooting any deer that looks tasty. Thank you , Juan Epsteins' Mom
now you are covered
Couldn't pass this guy up on the Marine Corps birthday. Sneaky pete right under my stand with all the wind at 7am. My first Massachusetts deer
Nice job congrats squints
Congrats on your 1st MA deer Squints. Hopefully the first of many. Nice shot.
Nice deer and great shot!
Squints, you can't tie them off and then shoot 'em. Very unsportsmanlike.
Just kidding, nice. That's a lot of yummy deer right there. Congrats!
Buddy shot this massive 200+lb beast last pm In zone 3
Squints congrats! That's totally awesome man!
Ungie... I think I want to be one of your buddies... Feels like everyone you know has shot a stud this year :)! Have you heard any stories about that giant deer - if the guy had been trying to shoot him for a few years or was surprised etc?
Crazy story. This buck chased a doe by the guys working on his pool yesterday afternoon. His brother texted me right after and told me a huge buck chased doe by pool workers. He went out 2 hrs later and grunted him in. Came right by him. Unbelievable.
Congrats Squints! Ungie that’s a cool looking buck!
Congrats Squints! Ungie I just ran out to my poll and grunted... Nothing. Wow what a buck fir your friend!
Congrats Squints! Ungie I just ran out to my poll and grunted... Nothing. Wow what a buck fir your friend!
Got my first for the year my second buck ever, unfortunately not a bow kill ( hope you guys don't mind), the stand i hunt on the property doesn't receive to much activity in the morning, so i hunted with my gun from the ground on a different part along a run and was huddled up against a tree at 6:00. 6:15 comes around and as i was about to take a nap this guy comes cruising in 15 yards nose to the ground, put him down right there. Now time to i can focus solely on bowhunting in Mass, this deer was shot in york Maine, good luck out there guys!
good for you! not a bad record so far.
Youngbuck, Congradulations, nice deer and it's nice to see the classic gun. No plastic.
Tekoa
My girlfriend, Jocelyn shot her first archery deer tonight in zone 11. She had an exciting sit before releasing the string on this doe. 2 eight pointers chasing a doe, but neither stuck around long enough to get shot. 4pm 2 more does come by and she shot this one at 25 yards. The doe only made it 50 yards. This is her second year archery hunting. After she dressed the deer we weighed it and it was 122lbs. What a great day to be in the woods.
Not a Massachusetts deer but I took a trip to texas to hunt with my veterans family and took this 250-300 pound Axis deer. Just thought I would share on the meat pole

1sg, where in Texas? Axis is probably the best tasting game meat out there!
congrats to your girl. Nice to see some ladies enjoying our sport.
Thursday afternoon at 209pm. I was able to close out my buck tags with this guy at about 10 yds from my tree!
Cp, congrats to your GF. 122 is a nice doe.
Nice John . How far ?
Congrats Jocelyn , That's great . Z11 we rock !
Ewade good going.
Pi I took him from about 80 yards I was watching a doe but it was getting dark and didn’t want to shoot but he just crossed by head down dropped him right where he stood. Awalk we do a Veterans hunt each year up in the hill country of Texas about 20 miles west Fredericksburg. I’ve never had Axis before but today’s camp fire breakfast we will be having some Axis ribs to go with it
Awesome guys congrats. Axis would be at the top of my list. Cool looking animals.
1sg thanks for your service! And my parents live in Ingram texas and we have property in Kerrville. I love hunting in Texas especially the hill country. Ewade and CPs gf, congrats on the great deer!
took this spike yesterday afternoon at 3:30 pm. it was a liver hit and I watched him tear away for 150 yards in the woods....the good news it was a large circle around my stand....i saw him stop 80 yards from my stand and head into thick stuff just beyond....i climbed down quietly and left the woods....back at sunrise this morning.... he was 25 yards from where I last so him yesterday... dead in his bed. relieved.
Great recovery!! Congrats
Well done Urban! congrats.
Young buck - GunBucks count on Bowsite's MA page! Congratulations. York is a fun town... Always see lots of deer during summer up there on vacation or fishing.
1Sg - Super cool to see an Axis. That's awesome. Let us know how they taste!
Ewade - Congrats on a super buck man!
Cp - congrats to your GF. THat is absolutely awesome. Well done encouraging her, and congrats to her!
Awalk Wow small world the guy who is doing the hide and mount is from Kerrville. “Heart of the hills taxidermy”
@Will I will let you know I have been looking it up from the second I let the bullet fly. What’s cool about the entire event was some people pay $2500-$3500 to hunt on land where these animals are raised and I was just at a buddies house sitting a blind and he walked by
VT rifle. Scoped 30-30.
VT rifle. Scoped 30-30.
2nd buck on the meatpole this year. VT rifle season opening day. Here’s the story. Had 5 does come in at first light and mill around for an hour. Three bucks on their trail kind of hanging up in some scrub pines about 50-60 yards out. A spike, this guy, and a real nice racked big bodied deer I saw once during bow season. I believe he’s a 7 or 8 pointer. I knew it was him because he limps slightly. The spike was chasing the does around a bit and was run off by the bigger buck that would not leave the does in the scrub pines. Meanwhile I have this small 4 point at 20 yards. After a while I’d say 5-10 minutes the does start to disappear away from me being chased by the bigger buck. My 4 point followed. I waited another 10 minutes and hit my grunt tube. Immediately the spike and 4 point came running back. I had the tarsal from my MA bow deer harvest out as a cover/attractant scent so they were kind of confused searching for him. After standing like statues for what seemed like forever they started to leave again. I made the decision to take this deer because I only had Saturday to hunt and didn’t want to miss my chance at filling a tag. 30-30 dropped him where he stood and I couldn’t be happier. VT is tough so I’m lucky to have a private piece to hunt every year.
Way to go Buckshot, with the old school 30/30 no less. Love those leverguns.
Here is my Axis on the ground in Doss, TX nice 6 Point a little over 225 pounds
Me too Spike. I have a mint condition Winchester model 94 30-30 that I don't bring in the woods, so I let this Marlin eat whenever I can. I'm willing to bet the 30-30 round has killed more whitetails than any other round out there. I love it because in the woods of the Northeast it's all that's needed. My next goal is to drop one with my 35 Winchester using iron sights.
Buckshot - that's awesome. Congrats.
1st - very cool. Impressive looking animals.
Blessed to join the meatpole this year...7 pointer snuck in on me about 7:30 this morning and gave me a 18 yard quartering away shot. Special thanks to Slowmo who I happen to meet in the woods today (small world) and helped me drag the last few hundred yards.
Congratulations everyone ! Addicted cool pic! Also narly looking tree in the background.
1SG Ret that is a beautiful axis buck! Very cool. Well done Addicted
Nice buck Addicted congrats
thats awsome! young one looks happy as well. and you look familiar, small world!
Thanks all, great day. Little one is happy to, says “Daddy I’m gonna eat that deer”.
Congrats again, Addicted. How cool is that to meet another MA Bowsiter in the woods AND get help dragging your deer. Way to go, Slowmo. Good stuff!
Sat a micro hunt this morning behind the house. I have passed on does here since opening day and have a large empty freezer, I wasn't about to waste another opportunity. About 7:00 3 does come down the hill from the street and head to my food plot. I pick the bigger of the three, draw, and as she starts walking past me at about 20 yards, a little quartering away, I let it fly. Entered right behind her ribs, FOB popped off and she took off. Get down and I couldn't find the arrow. Went back into the house to get my 9 year old tracking partner and away we went. Found the arrow, covered in blood. Found the blood trail pretty quick, lot of blood, easy trail. I let my daughter take the lead, careful not to get blood on her school clothes. 50 yards away there she lay. Big doe, going to feed us well, and for that I am grateful. Arrow caught a little liver, went through diaphragm and got both lungs. Going to be some tenderloins on the grill and some heart in the frying pan for my tracker! BowandSpear, we need to talk about pastrami . . .
Great to hear MRW!! Way to get the family involved
Congrats. Looks like a pretty good sized doe.
121 lbs 3 point zone 9

Awesome MA buck One-day, i was hoping you would post that pig! His first season hunting MA!!!!! stoked for you
Nice job, mrw... love your tracking partner's skills. Z7, congrats to you, too.

Great buck One! My buddy shot a 180lb huge 7 last pm in Tyringham zone 3.
Yup, he is my biggest so far. Definitely going up on the wall.
Damn Ungie the Berkshires are crawling with deer this year.
Sweet deer guys! Congrats
Proline you don’t look so happy and bloody lol Great buck.
nice job, guys! some great deer with greater back stories being laid down this year....
Got it done last night! Back straps on the grill tonight. 10yd shot and the rages did their job again, rediculous blood trail and 50yd recovery
Got a small 7 point yesterday. I passed a forkhorn before this one came in, and was going to pass on this one, but then said to myself, who do i think i am, "Michael Waddell"? So I took the shot. Meat in the freezer!
I hear ma_bowhunter! Congrats guys
true that, ma_bow! congrats. wtg, huntgatherer!
Great looking meatpole this year, fellas! Took this cool looking 6pt yesterday around 11am. Watched him for an hour at 100+ yards before my irresistible calling got the best of him.
That is a neat looking rack their congrats to you all.
Shot a spike w bow in NY tonight.
got this guy saturday morning in zone 10, 8 pointer
Amazing deer guys. So cool to see so many bucks falling to familiar faces, and new. Great to have the "new blood" posting!
Awesome!
Way to go guys! Rutnstrut, that 10 needs a spot on your wall!
Great bucks guys!!! congrats.
Excellent bucks everyone!!!
Z11 deer I shot a few weeks ago, weighed in at 199 pounds. This buck is 6.5 yo, another hunter had a long history with him and shared trail cam pics. I was lucky to be in the right spot when he went wandering for a hot doe.
Awww, it's a little 7 pointer! Obviously kidding about the little, and a wee bit jealous. Awesome mature buck. Congrats X, you always do seem to knock some toads over!
Not just my first deer of the year, but my first ever. I took this li'l 7 pointer out of Myles Standish State Forest (Z11) this past Saturday morning. He walked in front of my stand at about 08:05.
Shout-out to XMan, who gave me some good advice back a couple of years ago that I have tried to take to heart; it paid off! Thanks Bob.
Outstanding Dan, congratulations so glad to hear about your success, great buck!
Xman what a stud, beating a 6.5 is something to cheer about! Great buck DanCrossNYC
Big buck down!!!!
Big buck down!!!!
Been watching this buck for 3 years and he finally made a mistake on Tuesday morning. I did a calling sequence with the extinguisher call and he came charging in and gave me a 15 yard broad side shot.........
Great Buck!!!...Extinguisherrrrr strikes again!
Wow looks like a mule deer congrats!
Now the beasts are starting to go down congrats all.
Great on your first Dan! Sweet buck Todd!
Got a big bodied 4 point today. Moved my sit about 9 to get closer to the buck play ground. Sprayed some buck bomb on my boots for the trek back there. Find a tree and climb 4 lone wolf sticks up and hook up my Aerohunter Kestrel and immediately start to fall asleep. Who knows how many naps I took until, at 10:30 my wife texts me that she wants me home for 12, it is Thanksgiving. So at 11 I pack up, tie my bow and pack to my line and start lowering them down. I hear splashing coming from right under me and see some antler and a big body. Pull my stuff up, quick re-hang my pack, untie my bow and nock an arrow. Certain he is going to see or hear me, he is right under me. But his nose is on the ground, sniffing up my buck bomb! I finally get my act together and as he walks between 2 tree's 10 yards from me I draw and slide from behind my tree, he stops slightly quartering away and I aim for the exit and let her fly. My FOB pops off so I know I got a pass through and he runs off. Makes a half circle around my stand, and 25 yards away he stops, front legs give out, back legs give out and he lays down quiet, no kicking or anything, just a nice, clean kill - the kind we pray for when we release.
I could see his antlers sticking out from the swamp brush, look left there's my FOB lit up from the nockturnals. Text my wife, I might be a little late, she's excited for me. Get down and try to do it by the book so I go grab the FOB, arrow is embedded in the mud right behind it. Great blood, some bubbles and a little piece of lung on the Montec. Wash that off in the swamp water and start looking for blood. There is no blood, but his tracks are plain. Start following certain I'll see blood somewhere, finally a couple of drops, some smear on the brush, a few more drops. It's thick on the ground in the swamp so I can't see where I saw him go down and the lack of big blood makes me start second guessing myself. Following drops and I finally see his white belly, right where it should be. Poke him with the arrow to make sure he's dead then breathe that sigh of relief when you realize it all came together perfectly.
Took a couple of pictures, fill out my buck tag, stick that in a zip-lock and zip-tie it into his ear. Got my stuff together, open my pack to get my knife and gloves to gut him and I realize I left my knives in the kitchen after cutting up last weeks doe. So I grab my stuff, leave some markers on my way out and run home for my sled. 20 minutes later I'm back, load him into the sled and start dragging him through the swamp. I didn't gut him, figured I would do that at home and not hold up Turkey dinner any longer. That 4 point weighs a freakin' ton, I was exhausted by the time I got him to the edge of the swamp, then I had to drag him up a hill and finally lift him into the Subaru undercover deer hunting vehicle. Get him home, on the meat pole, showered (I was sweaty from the drag) and I was cutting turkey by 2:00.
Awesome day, awesome hunt. Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and good luck these last few days before the orange army arrives.
Lot of great deer on here. Haven't been out in MA yet this year myself. Primarily a bow hunter, going to try shotgun this coming week. Here is a spike I harvested in NY on 11/10.
Happy for you mrw, awesome story, awesome buck!!
Great bucks guys. Xman - he's a beauty...
8:00 Thanksgiving morning Zone 7
Jamison awesome buck, got a story to go with it?
Beautiful Deere although some look like Elks
Yes sir, I’ll post it later today when I have more time.
My good buddy Pat with his third archery deer in the last 5 seasons. Very happy to help him get this one out of the woods and the nice 20 yard track was even better. Congratulations Pat!
Dropped this doe last night around 4:15. Group of does been travelling around my fixed stand about 100 yards out. Set up with a climber on their travel route last night and got the better of them. By the time they realized something was wrong it was too late. Took her about 12 yards broadside, she ran about 30 yards and dropped. Trying to be more mobile this season and it has paid off for me. First season shooting multiple deer.
Great job addicted, con your buddy X!
Got this guy yesterday at 9AM eastern zone 9 with the black powder gun. Hemmed and hawed over where to hunt, picked probably my favorite tree in Mass where I've seen a lot of deer going to and from bedding. Heard a twig snap a ways off and I got into silent mode. Waited half an hour, nothing so I figured it was just the wind snapping a twig. Even so I kept still and waited it out, heard some leaves rustling, turned my head slow then the noise stopped. Another 5 minutes, couple more steps. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw movement and heard twigs brushing against antlers. Heart was going crazy, he snuck up behind me from the thick pines and came out into the open at 15 yards. Didn't pay attention to the rack, just focused on getting a shot, but boy was I surprised when I walked up on him. Thanks everyone for all the good reading material and the stories, it's been good following all your seasons on here.
Congratulations. Great buck.
Beautiful buck Wachusett!
Great deer Nick! Congratulations!
Nice buck! Congrats. Half a dozen absolute monsters shot in the Berkshires the first 2 days.
Great deers! Congrats addicted, wachusett and Vtec!!
Wachusett - awesome man! That's super!!!
I saw a pic online last night of a frigging massive nontypical out of the brookfields, and opening day a huge buck that I believe was a Z10 critter. Lots of big deer falling this year. Hope it's a harbinger of things to come!
Thanks everyone. Interesting follow up. I got it checked yesterday and two biologists aged him at 2.5 with a weight of 140, which lines up. Judging by the frame and mass of the rack, we all thought he was older. I attached a picture for reference. The guys said he must have had real good genetics and nutrition. Can't imagine what he would have looked like as a 4 or 5yo.
Nice buck. That’s the one good thing about MA is healthy deer.
been quiet on here! Big bucks hitting the ground with the gun hunters here in the Berkshires. Some absolute monsters this year. I can't remember a year with this many big deer being shot out this way. My buddy shot a HUGE 10 Sat in zone 3. Another buddy did as well. I've seen pics of some other brutes as well.... As for me... I haven't seen a deer in 2 weeks... lol
Where are the pics Ungie?
Anybody involved in this "Nantucket massacre"?
I certainly wish that I was. My additional hope is that this image has not been widely circulated outside of the hunting community. I feel like within the group of hunters here we all get that this was necessary for deer heard health and mitigating impacts of habitat, but there are certainly anti-hunter nuts that would take this is a "massacre" just for the sake of killing. I havent done any hunting on the island. Anyone have insight into whether the locals are supportive?
That’s insane. Here is my buddy’s 10
I don’t want to post other guys deer without knowing them. Many are on the masshunting page on Facebook I tried to sit for last hour and half this afternoon. Checked 2 cams. No deer since last wed. Disgusted, I decided to say f$$& it for today. Beyond frustrated come Gun season.
Wow nice deer Ungie. I think I’m going to one of my Berkshire spots Saturday as I don’t think it gets hunted at all.
Good luck spike. I’d say hit me up after, but I have my wife’s Xmas party. If you shoot one early let me know and I’ll give you a hand. I hope to hunt am
Sounds good Ungie, what town you going to be in?
Gun season sucks !! Jumping deer out of their beds at 545 am going in on Saturday and having them blow at me on my way out on Saturday night still in their bedding area . That's after just two days of the Blue Hills hunt last week. Crazy how quickly pressure fucks them up .
Clarksburg /Rowe area ! Cover your cards close !!!!!!
Spike, I will most likely be in Stockbridge or Gt Barrington hunting Sat AM.
I will be in Becket hopefully.
A lot of deer getting killed by friends of mine lately. This has just been an incredible year for hunting in general no matter where you go it seems. My dad shot a nice 8 pointer this Saturday, few buddys shot does (not on drives), another friend shot a nice buck last week.
Awesome bucks of your bud's Ungie. Pre season it looked like it was going to be a heck of a season - trail cam pics folks posted here and elsewhere seemed to show a much higher percentage of big racks than other years. That's purely subjective, but it really felt that way. Then the season comes it as Bigwoods said, it's amazing some of the deer being shot!
Good luck the rest of the way folks!
Got my skull mount back.. hung it under my daughter's from this year... Love the way these look.
Those are cool Ungie, how are you hanging them - with just a nail?
I am just using a giant sheetrock screw
Took this 9 point in zone 9 with shotgun at 35 yards this morning at 0700. Walked down a well used run from the oaks to the pine bedding area. Right place right time!
T that is a beauty Deanman!!!! Here's our blue hills day 2 results
Hell of a buck deanman congrats! Long drag? His hide looks rough.
Well done guys! Congrats all round. Ungie the skulls look excellent.
Moons, you can't kill them all - but don't stop trying,!
That's a hell of a December buck DeanMan! Moons!
Finally got it done yesterday morning. He was chasing a doe when he came into range at 25 yards. This is my largest buck and I took him with a bow. Z10, private property
Way to go BigAl!! Especially with the bow. That is awesome.
Congrats BigAl. that's amazing to keep it going with the bow through ML. Well done!
Very nice BigAl! Congrats!
Big Al! December is the new November
Moons, you need to read his WHOLE post . . . sheesh
Al, sweet 8 late in the season with the bow! YOU are the man!
ha ha. Nice z10 buck. I'm an idiot!
Ft Devens doe. Zone 9. Today at last light.
Way to go BigAl and Public!
Public, are her legs broken up front?
MWR, thought I replied the other day. I suck with phones. Yes, I had just cut through her legs to start butchering when I realized I hadn't taken a photo yet.
I thought they looked backwards! That or you're a freakin' monster when you drag them out!
Finally got it done last Saturday first deer. After hunting for six years passing multiple deer a year because they weren't ethical shots, including a ten pointer and the same eight twice. Which really killed me but wounding them would have hurt even worse. This button buck came walking in 30 yards broadside on my first sit of the year in a stand I set up in August.
Congrats guys. Mako, congrats on your first! Good eats right there! Easy dragging also win win.
Thanks spike, I've past on this size deer every year hoping for one of the big ones I have on camera. Which always makes me end up with tag soup which I'm fine with to help the population. the land owner loves the deer he sees but knows the the herd has to be controlled for their health and the environments.
Congrats Mako - some good eats, and an exciting hunt. It's really cool when a stand you set with hard work pay's off like that. A good Christmas Gift for sure for you!
The Good Neibor Buck
The Good Neibor Buck
Just before bow season starts I find a note on stand tree from neibor asking me to move stand. Mmm What do I do? I am torn, my all time fav tree. I don't want any conflict so I move my stand. So the new neibor sent me over this nice young buck. I watched him for awhile shaking tree, he left he came back then he moved right into my right hand shooting lane that I just cut out. I whacked him with a rage 2.3 he was dead on his feet . Thank you Neibor!
Got a nice doe tonight in zone 10. Still have both of my buck tags and one day left. Passed several small bucks this season waiting for the big boys. Tomorrow is the day !!!!!!?????
Nice job bowhunt! She looks cold! Congrats
