Fourth week, what did you see?

Bucks are on the move and making scrapes in spite of the weather.
There are scrapes everywhere here.
So far no moon = no deer. Seen some scrapes and a few more rubs. Not much visibility through the ground cover yet though.
Got a buck on video making a scrape this past week, even peed in it. This morning was rocking! I had deer all around me from 8am until 915am or so. Decent six point showed up around 815am and hung around for about 15 minutes or so. There were two doe that kept feeding back and forth. One a mature doe, the other looked to be a year and half old. The mature doe just wouldn't present a shot. The younger one did several times. The first time she did, she was about fifteen yards, looked up at me got a little flakey and took several leaps away. Fifteen minutes she's right back, feeding directly towards me. Again she gets within fifteen yards looks up again and bolt out to about 25 yards, giving me a quartering shot. Didn't seem too spooked and seriously considering shooting her, and I should have. She walked out to about 45 yards, stared at me and stomped and blew for ten minutes. I have a feeling she's going to be a problem in the future.
Seen a small buck in the PM. Only heard one gun shot all day.
I haven't been out all week. I'm resting up for the home stretch:) I only have to work 2 Sundays from October 25th till November 20th!!
I’ll be out tomorrow evening for my 3rd sit. Seen a really nice 8 point on the 17th with 6 dinkers. The nice 8 did do some chasing but was 400 yards away.
I was out with my son for the mentored youth antlerless on Saturday. No antlerless seen but some close encounters with bucks in the morning made for a nice sit with him and gave me a chance with my camera.
I seen temps in the 80's and a hundred mosquito s along with some really nice Pope and Young horse flies. Pa will soon be Florida North in a few weeks.
Don't fret John, it is supposed to cool down nicely just in time for next week(Oct 30-Nov 4)
This Wed-Sat should be good too, Perry. Hopefully there will still be 2 left for you to choose from.
The bucks were really moving this morning in 5D. Before dawn, I could hear lots of movement with grunting. Between 6:45 & 7:30, I had encounters with 4 small bucks, largest being a very immature 7 point. I had a 6 point sniff my climbing sticks. It won't be long before the big boys start moving. It's starting to get sporty!
I'm not worried, Art! We should be seeing some great Rut activity by then, and I have had bucks show up that time of year that I had never seen all season. Plus, I have a bear, buck, doe and turkey tag..........................................so we're gonna have fun that week! ;-)
For sure. Chise and those guys will be camping and hunting 12 miles away. The might be here Sunday PM watching football.
Nice! Hope I get to meet the famous Chise and his gang! : )
Everyone has one of those days where it's one huge charlie foxtrot. Mine was yesterday. I had planned on hunting a spot I haven't hunted yet this year. When I arrived at the parking area several cars were parked there and I know one of the guys has a stand fairly close to mine. No biggie, I'll head to another stand. As I head back the bouncy, rutted, steep road, I am hit with belly pain that means I need to park NOW. Well after a mile and a half of this road I am at my parking spot. Take care of business. Whew!! Decide to hunt my sons ladder stand and leave my climbing sticks behind. Get to the ladder stand and hear something, it's a raccoon in the tree, about 6 feet above the stand. He has no intention of moving. If this is the same coon that I saw on the first day, it's a bit aggressive. Tried climbing on the back of a doe hissing and growling, chased her off the acorns she was eating. My hang on is only twenty yards from the ladder stand, but the climbing sticks are back at the truck. *sigh*. So I wait. And wait. And wait some more. Finally at 7:50am the coon decides to climb down and waddles off. So I climb up for two hours and see NOTHING. Last day off to hunt before I start my new job.
I got home from work, change into hunting clothes, and got into a treestand out back at 5:50 p.m. last night. I bumped a doe going in. I was in the stand for maybe 5 minutes when two good bucks went at it in the side yard of my neighbor's property. It was one helluva fight that lasted about two minutes. The battle drew a third deer into the area, another very good buck. Several minutes later, one buck, a good 8 point, was chasing a doe all around the woods. They passed by me several times without stopping, so I couldn't get a shot. The buck, stopped three times, within 10 yards of my ground blind. Had I been in the blind & not the stand, he'd a been dead. Thinking of going into the blind tonight if I can get home in time.
Watched a crazy 4 point chase a doe and here fawn. 5 more deer came out just before dark. Had about 10 minutes of rain around 5:45 then sun.
Forgot to mention that a few days ago I saw a very small fawn with all her spots. Anybody else see this as late as this?
Perry, I heard a doe making that coughing sound again.
10/24/17 The rut is on, look at the neck and body on this guy.
Nice buck, banjo- Congrats!
Got this guy MOnday Morning around 7:30. 30 Yard shot.
Very nice buck! And great shot! Congrats!
"But didya get on that ol momma doe yet that keeps bustin you???" No I have not yet. She is on a different property and I am not sure I will be hunting that specific spot the rest of the season. The main attraction to that spot was the chestnut trees first couple weeks of Oct. I have other stands to hunt. That overly alert lead doe was one tough nut to crack. Maybe that will be a new goal. Thanks for asking.
Congrats to Dan and Banjo. Nice buck!!
Good looking bucks guys. Dan I think your deer might of died from a broken heart.
"Dan I think your deer might of died from a broken heart." I had this guy come in to my left at 30 yards. His nose was up in the air scent checking or maybe catching some of my wind but then he calmed down and walked perfectly broadside or quartering away when I grunted to stop him. I do not know if he somehow got quartering to me when I grunted or if he reacted to the shot. But that entrance wound seems great, however the exit wound was just at the last rib on the far side. I didn't pick up blood until about 10 yards into the track and at no time was the blood what I would call profuse. The blood was a good red color and NOT watery like a gut shot, but at times the blood did have a very slight gut smell. The heart was untouched and I will cook it today and have a yummy heart lunch. He still only went less than 100 yards but it was not the greatest blood trail I have ever followed. Have no idea how that arrow ended up going toward the last rib as it passed through instead of sticking in the far side shoulder. I'm happy his inner loins are in my belly, his back straps are in my freezer and his hind ends are deboned and ready to grind today. Thanks all.
The deer were in the field tonight. Nice buck and 2 does at 40 yards. Not sure if it was my shooter or not. Got spooked by a couple of smaller bucks and ran to an opposite edge. Little buck came to the scrape at 15 yards. After it got dark 2 big bucks were having a knock down drag out fight. Grunting and making a serious growling sound. Pretty neat.
One small buck this morning.jumped one doe.None seen this eve.
My son made it happen on this guy at 25 yards quartering away. He made a perfect shot and I couldn’t be more proud. First buck with a bow.
Mike, Congratulations to your son !
Lazer- Congrats to you and your son- a proud moment indeed!
Art- So I guess I should plan on doing some rattling next week! ;-)
Yes Perry. I saw 12 tonight. 8 does, a lone button buck 2 small bucks and a really nice 6 point that stopped 10 yards in front of me and peed.
Way to go guys.
I took my last V-day and got in a rare evening hunt. Still hunting in the wind was going great. I was 35 yd from a bedded BB when the wind just died. Didn't get one step closer in the dry leaves. Good day. :)
Passed this little guy up on Friday evening. He went off harassing a young doe a little after I got video of him.
First blood in 4 years of our Halloween camp out.
First blood in 4 years of our Halloween camp out.
My buddy and I hiked to our annual tenting spot and camped on top of the mountain Friday night. This was our fourth year but our latest start as we hiked and set up in the dark. Typically we would meet at noon Friday, hike and set up camp then hunt the evening. We have both had shots at does and seen some nice bucks but never any fruit. I made the call that this was the year one of us would score.
I wish I could say this was the first doe in range Saturday morning but that would not be true. I had 2 get by me without drawing a shot. When the second group of 3 does came I made better moves and got the big doe stopped in a shooting lane but missed...twice. First shot deflected off a twig 7 yards in front of me and she just stood there. I was able to get another arrow on the string and get drawn again, only to shoot low.
I waited a half hour then went to find my arrows. One was destroyed but the other went back in my quiver. I constructed a new makeshift blind about 10 yards from the tree I had been sitting at. 30 minutes later group three, a doe and fawn, worked in to me on the bench below. It was a 25 yard shot but it was so steep it was just like being in a tree stand. She only made it 40 yards.
How do you edit photos to get them turned the right way
Nice adventure Curtis! Been thinking about a Rut Backpack Campout/Hunt for years, but haven't done it yet.
Congrats on the doe! Now quit holding out and show everybody that great buck you got this year! ;-)
