Broken Leg Buck

Man, I cant tell you how good it feels to make this post. Been looking forward to it all weekend. As many of you know, I broke my leg 3 weeks ago. For someone that hunts close to 200 hours a year, this was absolutely crushing. Every plan I had went right out the window, my bow season ended immediately. I was pretty much banking on my gun trip to Maine and NY. Well I was up in Maine this past week and got it done....
Taped up my crutches with camo, silenced them and reinforced them, per suggestions I bought some boot covers to put over my cast. Also got myself a nice portable chair. Ground hunting with the gun was all I had. Gotta make the best of it right?
Friday morning at 7:30am in the freezing cold and high winds I had a doe come running down this ridge 100 yards away. In November, you know what happens next... Sure enough, here comes a spike horn trotting full tilt after her. 30 seconds goes by I see movement/antlers where they came from. Good buck coming right after the spike and doe. I cannot stop him though cause he is full trot. The 3 of them are gone. I figure hey, at least it was cool to see. Well 1 1/2 hours goes by and right at 9am here comes a doe. She runs within 40 FEET of me. Mind you, I am on the ground. She's drooling, tung out, exhausted. Runs right by me. I turn my chair, put my gun on top of my crutches and just wait. Anytime you see a doe running in November, you get ready. And sure enough, here he comes. Grunting, drooling, mouth open, just incredible. Coming right on her trail. He starts slowing down about 40 yards away to catch her wind and that was it... sent a 30.06 round right through the lungs. Runs 50 yards and piles up. To say I am happy is an understatement. Cannot believe I got this opportunity after everything that has happened this year.
He's a 7 pointer because of a cool "crab claw" split in his main beam
