What career change can I make where I’m deader then a fricken door nail in November? Every year I get slammed in November like clockwork and being the boss if I don’t schedule jobs for the crew they will be in the office while I’m hunting. It’s damn depressing as I save my V days for now and only used 2 so far during Oct/Nov. I’m ready for a career change/business idea so I can hunt for a change.

your reading my mind. I was just thinking this. I should have been a wildlife researcher so I could study deer year round.

Consider a career in being disabled or mentally unstable ... It may take a horrible injury and Hunting will be a challenge so be careful which disability you pick .

Summer work like landscape design and such , pool boy was a good one ! Pro Baseball ! that's the ticket ! Porn !

Spike I hope some time opens up for you. It's tricky as we get "older" right. At 30 you change fields/careers and it's not so bad if you have to backslide a little... The older you get, the harder that backslide feels.

It's always around now that I start feeling heat building - mostly because, being self employed, I intentionally "slack" early in the season because I'm so excited to be out there... Then just before thanksgiving I have a "Oh Crap" moment and realize I better buckle down or "Welcome to Wal-Mart" or "do you want fries with that" may be my next "position" he he he :)

Jeb I know a police detective that back in the day turned down a warden job due to not being able to hunt. Moons you won’t have any smily faces when you begin your career after college ha! Lol. Pi porn sounds good to me but the wife may not approve. Will whatever your doing is what I need to do!

Spike I’m also 39. And I am an organic farmer of 100 acres. We work our tails off from early March to mid October then I hand over the cleanup to my field crew chief for 2-3 weeks so I can hunt every morning if I want too ( I’m close to 50% of those ). I don’t often get too many afternoon sits although I like the morning better. Also my friendships with other farmers and the additional acreage I have begun to lease gives me more access to more hunting spots. It’s a pretty sweet deal. I wish I had started hunting when I was younger. One down side. We don’t make much if you care about that sort of thing.

Pi, the way I look at is if I can’t do the one thing I enjoy and look forward to every year what’s the point? One of my V days consisted of 34 calls back and forth to the crew and customers along with being on the laptop. That ain’t no vacation day. Junkdog, that sounds pretty sweet. I’m at the point now of trying to figure out how to take a pay cut and get by.

You know, seriously, real estate agent is an interesting idea. I'm pretty sure a good living can be made, and I suspect they have a fair amount of schedule flexibility.

I made a pretty serious career switch a couple years ago, not just to hunt more, although that is a serious benefit, but just for a better quality of life. I had worked as a cook and then a chef in restaurants for over a decade, often working 80, 90 and sometimes 100 hours a week. There was no way around it, I was burnt out and was no longer able to hold up my end of the deal in relationships or at work. I quit my last restaurant job in 2015 and signed up for a couple apps; one was to connect me with people who wanted small dinner parties catered in their homes and the next was to do all sorts of handy man jobs in peoples homes and offices. I had initially thought I would do it for a short period of time until I figured out something more permanent, but then I started doing a pretty decent job bringing in money and was in almost total control of my schedule. Forward two years and I'm still using both apps as my main job, transitioning to the handy man app more the chef app, which I hadn't anticipated. The bills get paid, food in the fridge, see friends and family more and a lot more time to do things I enjoy. I'm sure our situations are a little different, but in my experience things tend to work themselves out if you take the leap and work hard at whatever that leap might be. Best of luck in figuring it out man.
