So this morning i went to one of my favorite stands, that i have been chasing this buck in been passing on does hoping he comes cruising through, that didn't happen today but a coyote did. He was about 30 yards out from my stand in front of me on my right so i started calling him he stops does a circle down wind, he's now behind at 45 yards. He didn't smell me I'm ready with bow in hand at this point he's coming in, and this is where i messed up he's at 30 yards on a log i stop him slightly quartering to me and i shoot. Rushed the shot didn't bother changing my yardage on my pin and a possible deflection. I see him trot off with the arrow sticking out (upper chest cavity) and i knew i didn't get good penetration. I questioned myself for not really caring, i know theres no way i would have shot at a deer like that but i had the wrong mindset thinking "its just a yote who cares" i don't feel good about taking an animal and not recovering it, i learned my lesson on ethics ( respect all) ; back to the story i tracked him for over 300 yards with what looked like decent blood in the beginning couldn't quite tell where it was coming from my guess is muscle? lost it in a swamp/ bedding area. Do you guys think he could survive? The positive is he's more than likely dead i think and a fawn or two is saved but the negative is i could have done a better job as a hunter and made a better decision on the shot.

Think of the mercy those coyotes give a fawn, then sleep well tonight. None of us wants to cause any animal, undue suffering, game or pest. It happens, and I feel less sorry for the coyote because they are killers - live by the sword, die by the sword.

Hate for any animal to suffer but having seen the aftermath of coyotes running down and killing an adult doe . Very viscous !! F the yotes !!!

I'm in the F the coyotes camp myself. However as a hunter I think any time you pull the bow or aim the gun you owe it to the targeted animal to try for a humane kill. Don't forget also that this a public forum, plenty of antis can twist your words to make the hunting community look bad.

YB, don't beat yourself up about it. Things happen. You meant to do well. Best luck out there in the deer woods.

Was watching a hunting show a few weeks ago and the guy hunting took a ridiculous 80 yard shot on a yote, then looked at the camera and said “there is no such thing as an unethical shot on a yote”. I don’t completely agree with him, but I imagine most of us are willing to take a more risky shot on a yote than we would ever think of taking on a deer.
