At 4:45 four does came out into the enclosed field from the NW bedding area. They were followed shortly later by the forky and unicorn spike. They chased the largest doe around the field until she headed out into the middle of the main field. Dumb and dumber crossed over the crossing, Uni headed to the pond, the forky chased the doe towards the cedar grove. I shot some video of it.

When is it going to be the peak of rut activity on this property?

Which deer is the one you would be concentrating on if you were hunting this property and why?

I'd still be on the lookout for that buck you had pics of at night...you know the one, but hey...I like Unicorns too ;?)

With all the vast experience and worldly knowledge offered by some on here, I was curious if anyone else has recognized what I have about this place this year and during many seasons previous.

I am not seeing much rut activity due to the age of the resident deer that call this property home. The oldest deer I have seen regularly is the 8pt that I have allowed to walk several times already this year. I have seen an older 8pt but only when he is traveling thru either early in the morning or late in the hunt right at dark, he doesn't live here. The forky is the next oldest at 2 yrs of age. The doe with the fawn was born late last summer, that is why she still has the fawn with her. I know this because I have pictures of her from the last year. The other does are all orphaned fawns. The doe and fawn that came out first last night are not regular residents, I think they are staying here off of the properties North of us while bucks are working olders does over there.

The deer I am going to watch close is the doe with the fawn. If you look at her picture from last night, you will see her tarsals are getting darker, she is getting frisky with the dinks. When she shows aggression against the fawn, I will be watching closer for her male callers. The other doe fawns will not come in until late this year, or well into 2018. Like I stated in my very first post, I am not expecting much this year

I enjoy being out there with the camera(s) as much or more than the hunt itself. I have 1000s of wildlife pictures I should do something with someday. I'm going to hate it when this current camera dies, it has been the best/easiest camera I have ever owned. The zoom trigger is about worn out, and they don't make the camera any longer. We bought a replacement two years ago, it is much larger and bulkier, won't fit in my coat or pants pocket like this one does.

My point and shoot camera is a Sony DSC-H20 Cybershot 10mp w/10x Zeiss Zoom lens that I bought several years ago, best electronic purchase I have ever made. The little camera will fit in your pocket, but takes SLR quality pictures and video for 1/3rd the money that the larger cameras cost. I wish I had bought 3-4 of them when they were available new, awesome little camera.

My shot was a bit high and forward, was about 3" above the 10:00 position of the right front shoulder paddle bone. The 125gr Muzzy broadhead plowed thru a rib breaking it in two, made mush of the right lung, angled up and forward(rib deflection I assume) went thru the top of the left lung, and exited above the left paddle bone. I was surprised to see the exit wound higher considering I was shooting down at him.

Neighbor and his friends pushed two very nice bucks out of the timber behind my house this morning while quail hunting. One was a very tall/wide 10pt. The bucks were tending a doe.

Came back to the house and discovered why my best camera didn't have anything on it back on the 21st. I had put that memory card into the Predator camera by mistake, doh! The predator camera set up never worked over the weekend at all.

Shooting my buck, walking around afterward, driving down to pick him up, none of it disturbed the deer activity in the following days according to the pictures off #1 camera.

Was driving North at 55mph, doe came leaping out of the West ditch at full speed, hit her in the head and neck. She destroyed the left front end of my truck, then proceeded to pinball off the driver's side denting it from front to rear. $8600 of damage.

She looked pretty clean, got a salvage tag from the deputy, loaded her up and took her home hoping to salvage some meat. Back straps and one rear quarter was only thing not heavily bruised and damaged once the skin was peeled back.

She was still lactating, in January. Her tarsals were clear, not stained in the least bit, had not gone into estrous yet. A 3 year old at least, big heavy fat covered sheila that still had nursing fawns somewhere closeby.
