Finally put a buck on the ground after 3 years of tag soup. Z11 and a couple of long canoe rides later. He was cruising the down wind side of down bedding, 7am on the 16th. Crossing East to West doe trails from South to North with a SE wind.

Awesome buck, awesome shot and awesome method! Is it safe to assume you have that spot all to your self. That is some hard work and effort with the canoe!

Tex, can you tell us about the area? Was it an island or were just using canoe to get to the back end of large woods or? Just curious on the canoe application.

Cougar that was indeed me. It was quite a cold morning. The most hilarious part of that for me was that you were in the exact tree I was planning on hunting haha. Did you end up seeing anything? Spike, I was on a small river/creek that cuts through a marsh. There is a bend in the creek that connects to a line of trees that form a natural rut funnel for bucks cruising downwind of doe bedding.

hahaha I knew it by the smirk you had on your face!!! I saw a buck cruise by at daybreak doing basically what the one you shot was... about 75 yards out, unresponsive to calling. then a couple does ran thru at about 7:45. Gonna make a late season play on that spot and Z11 in general. I switched jobs and moved to western mass which has me doing more driving than hunting. Got some time off mid to late december tho so I'll be after 'em.
