I feel like I should know the answer to this...think I do, what are your comments?
Has anyone heard of this scenario happening? What was the outcome?
A person buys a WI resident archery deer license and a WI resident firearms deer license. That person kills a buck during the archery season with a bow. The deer is legally harvested and registered, all is well. The person decides to hunt with a bow during the firearms season (legal now) and kills another buck and registers it as per the regulations.
Is all well? The person has killed two bucks with a bow, you are only supposed to be able to kill one buck with a bow. What gives? Is the second buck a legal deer?
Your opinion? I don't recall...is a situation such as this clarified in the game regulations pamphlet?
Not sure if this falls under a lessor weapon rule or if there even is a lessor weapon rule any longer.
Yes, the second buck is legal under the lesser weapons rule.
lessor weapon =legal deer . That's what I am trying to do .
Per the WI DNR Hunting regulations: Gun Buck DeerTag: Valid in any DMU statewide for harvesting one buck deer with a firearm, muzzleloader, bow or crossbow during any firearm deer season except it is not valid in any DMU where an antlerless-only hunt is taking place.
Yes it is a legal deer,,,,, To bowhunt you must be in possession of a gun tag, during the gun season,,,,, you can take a buck, with your bow, using the gun tag,,,,,
that is how I read the rules
Ground hunter, you can bowhunt during the gun season under your archery tag. You do not have to have a gun license. I never even bought my gun license this year.
Okay I did not read that right, I thought you had to have a gun tag,,,,, thanks
If that person used his archery tag on buck 1 during the archery season that tag is gone. He can now hunt the rifle/muzzle loader season, with Archery equipment, under his gun/buck tag. Once muzzle loader season closes, he no longer has a buck tag he can fill.
I would think he must purchase ANOTHER permit...ie a Gun Tag...if he chooses to use a "lesser weapon" then he can. Now the guy that said "he kept hunting with his Archery Tag" probably didn`t already kill a buck. If he did he can only kill what is left on his Archery Tag....probably antlerless.
WI DNR regs: Archery season September 16 - December 6 & December 11 - January 2, 2018
Archery open during rifle season but closed during the December doe killing.

Do you have to wear blaze orange if you bowhunt during muzzleloader season.?
