It could be chemicals in the water they drink or simply a way for nature to balance the equation. It is a known fact that when one side of the species is lacking in numbers the other side goes thru selective sex change over time. So, please stop taking bucks. Does taste better.

The bio nerd in me thinks that's really cool. One of those things you dont see every day. The sociologist, or maybe psychologist in me thinks the guys in the vid played roll's in deliverance "oink like a pig..." The deer hunter in me just thinks it's a deer, but can I save my buck tag?

Nothing to do with the water, just a normal anomaly that happens in nature. There are hen turkeys with beards, just like some women we have in the plant :)

“ It is a known fact that when one side of the species is lacking in numbers the other side goes thru selective sex change over time. “

Depends on The Species in question and no, it does not ever happen among mammals. Intersex development is not all that uncommon, though... biggest difference is that 50 years ago (among humans, anyway), a newborn with ambiguous genitalia (or a circumcision gone really wrong) would be assigned a female identity because as my dad said, it’s a lot easier to build convincing-looking Girl Parts. Now, they usually let the kids figure it out for themselves and do the surgery when the kid is ready.

But this is just a deer, and antlered does aren’t all that unusual, which (along with button bucks) is why the tags are for Antlered and Antlerless, rather than male/female.

Gotta say, though.... those two are not exactly projecting the image that I want the Non-Hunting public to have. “Oh, sure thing - you can go ahead and put up a stand and sit there with your binoculars 50 yards from my daughter’s bedroom window while she gets dressed in the morning.... no problem.”
