WTF? It had to be a kid with a pellet gun in his back yard. Any adult doing that would be a morron.

Could be an adult. Picture this ....
Honey, that deer is eating the flowers you just planted... again. Now you have to put down that beer, get off the couch, stop watching the patriots and go get me more flowers at Home Depot
That's a recipe for a pellet to the shoulder in some households

Could have looked like a chicken . Specially at Halloween . "Honey , get out there and kill that big chicken . It crossed the road again. " Yup it was the chicken thing , i'm convinced.

That happens way more than any of you think.
Deer in the yard, eating the holly, hostas, garden plants and......whammo. Deer is educated. People aren't looking to kill the deer, just deter it. It happens a lot.

My taxidermist said he will find pellets, .22's and field tips in deer all the time. Sad but true.

I found a fresh headless buck today. Maybe a day old. I am sure it was human doing. So the other stuff that people do to deer is stupid, but not as.

All us guys are so worried about getting the 500 feet, wearing the 500 inches of orange, being as ethical as possible, dealing with all the bull shit Massachusetts laws, on and on and on. Now you got these people poaching deer whackin their heads off shooting them in the ass with pellet guns and none of them get caught. God forbid they catch word of your stand 473 feet from the house and you'll get written up. Ugh. Unreal. If you hate the deer enough to shoot them with a pellet gun give me a call I'll gladly come hunt them

Moons, Your on to something. I posted a request for access to back yard deer. This is a heavily populated hunter town (I don't think all are registered hunters) but I did get a few responses . Nice folks who would like to be friendly and talk hunting. No hunting spots came out of it but I did call in a Vegan-anti who needed a stiff verbal slap. She got it . So that was fun... Next Ill visit with local farmers and abutting properties.
Maybe even knock on the doors of the suspects and drop a hint of illegal activity going on close to their homes... Stinkers !
Maybe print a flier and go door knocking .

VT neighbor shot a 7 pointer this year. He skinned it and found 5 .177 CAL pellets in it. He was talking to some guys about it and found out that the old lady at the beginning of our dirt road has 10 apple and pear trees and "scares" the deer with the pellet gun off her back deck. Her grandson gave her a gamo whisper pellet gun, taught her how to use it and said to "sting" the animals with it and scare them from the yard. She thought they were just bouncing off of the deer and bears by giving them a little sting. He asked the lady and she will stick to the air horn from now on. So you never know what the story is behind it. Some people are ignorant to this stuff and think they are doing the right thing.
