Tag soup

Someone had to start this thread, might as well be me. I just finished simmering a big ol' pot of piping hot tag soup! It tastes like shit! If you had told me at the beginning of the season I'd be eating tag soup I would have said it's impossible with the amount of work I put in during the off season, well, here I am with all my tags. All things considered it was a great season even with all unfilled tags. I was fortunate to see more deer from the stand than I have in all my seasons combined, but I always seemed to set up 10 yards too far this way or that. I'm now kicking myself for missing the only shot I took all season and questioning a few shots I didn't take, although in reality I know I made the right choice not to take those shots. I also learned a lot about hunting in general and a huge amount about some new spots that will be beneficial during future seasons.

As far as i can read your season was a success. Learning when to shoot and when not to shoot is not measured in bone, but in maturity. There is always next year and with the things you learned this year you are already on your way to another successful season next year

X2 . What your soup lacks in protein, it makes up in experience. Good decisions make great seasoning.

Sounds successful to me. Every season weather it end with a kill or not is a good one if you let it be, and learn from your time in the woods.

I’m on my second season of tag soup. Ironically it all started when I was promoted to manager and my vacation days went bye bye. Maybe next season!

The guys nailed it... Sounds like a great year overall! DFA and Pi really summed my sense.
The knowledge and experience gained this year may really pay off next year!

Started the season with five tags. Still have four. Even if I still had all five it was a good season. Saw lots of deer, and learned a lot. It's about the hunt not the kill. Sounds to me that you had a great deer season. You didn't take bad shots and you saw deer. Learned new things and became a better hunter. Missed shots happen, at least you didn't wound a deer and lose it. Hope you get one next year.

It's certainly a constant learning experience and that's probably what draws me to it so much. I'm not sure I've ever been involved in anything that had such a steep learning curve. Time to start scouting for next year!

2017 was tag soup for me. Got hit by a car last July and still not able to walk right. Guess I was the one that got tagged. Working hard to get back into shape for next year.
Stay safe, Techfixer

Tag soup this year, but completely my fault. I did learn alot, as many of you know from my posts. My 1 regret of 2017 is that I didn't practice as much with the bow, or shotgun, or muzzleloader. I got wrapped up in my selling and buying of my house plus started shooting skeet. I blinked and realized I hadn't practiced nearly enough as I feel I should have. I used to shoot almost daily. I went to almost monthly. I definitely noticed the difference in my abilities. 2018 is going to be different. I'm giving my son his new bow from Reedy's Archery shop and we are going to do 3D shoots together. Then I'll hit the range for the ML and SG. Other than the practice, I enjoyed my season. I saw alot of deer and still do. Had 1 bedded behind my house just last night. The best part is that I got to meet several hunters and found new spots. Some new spots are also good ATV trails and now I have a new goal. To buy a nice ATV. Wife wasn't happy when I told her. Oh well. My couches are very comfy and the spare bedroom has the same queen mattress as my bedroom. Hehe. I do want to get into coyote hunting, but don't know anyone that does it to show me the ropes, so I'll start reading and learn slowly. I don't want to keep any of the coyotes, so I'll post them here for anyone who wants them, if I get any.
