10pts father?

So, last year during the rut I was walking out of Oxbow after a morning hunt, heading to my unit for a meeting. 50yrds from my Jeep, as I walked along the railroad tracks, I saw a big 8pt 15yrds away following a doe and not giving a damn about me. Caught me off guard. I nocked an arrow, but brush and my known limitations on accuracy kept me from taking a shot. I had to get to work, so I left and didn't see him again.
Well in January I was hiking my stand out of the woods after a good snow and I looked across the river. I saw this rack right near the bank. I went over the bridge to check it out. I swear it was the same deer I almost had a chance at. Coyotes did a good job on him, so I couldn't tell how he died. He was mature for sure. Took the antlers as a reminder of him. This whole year I joked at work about hoping he had a son or a brother. In looking at the rack closer, there are similarities between my 10pt and this one, most notably the brow tines and how the right side is shorter and slants forward. It might very well have been his father, or a close relative.

I figure most deer are similar, but with it being the same hunting area and same little quirk with the brow tine, it makes the story and history with my 10pt that much better with the Maury Povich angle.

Probably. Nice find! At one of my spots almost none of the deer have brow tines. A lot of basket rack 6 pointers with no brow tines. My buddy killed two out of my stand that looked absolutely identical.

Local genetics.... All the more reason I hunt the Oxbow refuge. I'm seriously considering taking vacation time to come back up from Georgia next season.

You're gonna see so many more deer down there you won't even be thinking about oxbow! Lol

I saw 20 this year. Missed more than I like to admit and still filled the freezer. If Georgia is better than this, I'm going to have to pace myself so I don't tag out the first month.

I'm sure they give you a bunch of tags down there. Fill your quiver!! Heading into a target rich environment. I bet you'll have days when you see 20.

20 a day? Guess I will need to buy some more arrows. I looked into it. 2 buck limit, one must be a 8pt or better, and 10 doe limit.

Yup, stock up on arrows. Good luck can't wait to hear about it down there!
