Asking Permission

My neighbor has about 6 acres of land shaped like a backwards California with field on either side. A runway runs on our property line and id like to hunt it. While scouting the trail I found a ladder stand near the corner of his property about 20yrs from the trail. I can see no way the landowner can reach the stand without "driving" all the deer off his property on. I didnt see him during rifle season and many times during bow season I hunted that corner and never saw a hunter.
Id like to gain his permission for deer recovery but dont want to tip anyone off im hunting deer (rual area but small parcels). Never spoke to them since owning our home so how should I go about it?

Kind of thinking the stand may not even be his which would open another can of worms.

Another use for trail cams, put one up and see who shows up. Granted this won't tell you anything till next season. My public land cams are more about scouting pressure than deer.

Act like a normal good neighbor, say hi, bring some jam, venison or produce. Once you've established a relationship ask him if it would be ok around July 4th.

Gojakes, you should have made contact with all your neighbors when you got your property or when neighboring properties changed hands. It would have been the neighborly thing to do. Now you have to ease into a relationship slowly, don't go to him thinking you hit the jackpot. If your birthday or anniversary is coming up invite him over for a brewski. Now that I think of it a home with some decent hunting possibilities a half mile up the road changed hands last spring, I still need to introduce myself.
