With so many vegans and nuts against hunting does anyone have objections to using your real name here? I recognize this is double-edged since anonymity is not conducive to being accountable for your words but I'm in sales and don't want any comments I would make here to be searchable on the hive-brain that it the internet. I am paranoid about my internet presence and wouldn't want a future opportunity lost because of internet searches. Would it be possible that someone would find a post about gutting a deer and decide you don't belong in a "company culture?"
Not likely "at this time" unless you put your name physically into your post.
As algorithms get smarter and AI gets smarter there may come a day in the not so distant future that the data could be pulled from your profile and tied to your post
You can always go with "off the grid" style type searching. Using a vpn, Onion, TOR, etc. The "dark net" is enormous. Following a few easy steps, you can search the wwi pretty much undetectable, for now at least. It's just not as convenient as logging on and searching google.
I have used my name since 05 :) I used my full name for about a week, then went to my first name only. Sounds bad, but being self employed I dont want folks searching my name and landing on a fun recreational "place" for me.
That said, a lot of it is simplicity - I'd never remember if my name was "FatTire29.0" or something... Then again the trolling could be fun. Pi, if you see "FatTire29.0" posting about the virtues of alternative energy, that is NOT me. I repeat... Not me :) ha ha ha!
Nickade, those help hide your movements somewhat, but I don't even bother anymore. Data mining is huge, and every site on the 'net is crawled by bots millions of times a day. Now-a-days every digital fingerprint you leave behind is somewhere collected and associated with you. A little drunken porn surfing - they got you. Trying to buy an 80% receiver - you're on a list. Support the GOP, the Dem's know who you are. There are facial recognition cameras in every city and on a lot of highways that know who you are. Big brother is here, and the only way to avoid him is to unplug everything - even then, they'll probably watch you even more.

Complaint #2 : Every time I am going to my favorite place in New England on the coast, A place that went unchanged since my grandfathers landing in 1947 , I pass two monster Windmills that have just ruined the view of half the bay-side homes and the Town as a whole, that once was a tranquil bay and beautiful coastal setting. I just find it easier to not say anything I wouldn't want associated with my name. I see no point in hiding behind anonymity.

Agree Pi, Very familiar with the eyesores the power company decided was in everbody's best interest for their profit. I bike ride down there in the summer and its a real shame they couldnt have put those things 10 miles offshore.
I don't worry about it. If an employer doesn't want to hire me because I hunt, well, I don't want to work for them anyway. Easy for me to say as I don't have a bunch of little mouths to feed, I understand those who feel differently if they are completely reliant on a potential job to feed their family.
I honestly think the anti hunting population is probably much lower than we might think, the one's who are against it are just much more out spoken. During previous hunting season's I would intentionally avoid people and in some places I still did this season, but in large conservation area where I have permission I started intentionally trying to run into hikers as I was heading in or hiking out. I was involved in a few really great conversations because of it. Only a couple ladies walking dogs looked at me with disgust and refused to say hello back to me. So although it was a pretty small sample size, way less than 10% of people had a negative reaction to me in an area where I previously would have expected mostly negative responses.

I wasn't local when it went down but I would have been loud and clear as I have with similar abuses in the past . People are deceived and then its too late.

I don’t think the bots can quickly and easily match posts with your real internet Id but I understand the need to speak freely with the bros and not have the world know exactly who you are. I hold my tongue on many occasions but wouldn’t the internet be a better place if everyone did?
HFC I think you're right concerning a fairly small anti-hunting population. And I also think you have to distinguish between anti-hunting and rabidly-anti-hunting. In all of my hunting adventures, including door-knocking for spots, only one guy has been mean to me. A few other landowners have basically told me they're opposed to hunting, but they were nice about it. The few people I've met in the woods have primarily been curious. That's a good PR/education opportunity, so I try to lay off the swear words when talking to them.
Interesting point to consider Arrow-b . Is it holding back ones real or deeper thoughts that we could benefit from or is it the accountability of those thoughts ? I think some people have taken advantage of this form of dialogue in order to vent instead of really engage . The skills of fair debate in our life and times have almost vanished and been replaced with guarded opinions . (more attitude than merit)
There needs to be civil dialogue about real issues if we hope to mend the great divide. Say what you mean just don't be mean when saying it. Be open to new thinking and ideas but test them. Test everything.
Okay I must confess I was testing the waters if I could begin sharing some things anonymously on bow site. I already have an account and I'm not trying to be sneaky or really say anything bad it's just that "when I was a kid" there was no internet and you could say whatever you wanted to your friends and it was usually forgotten in a few months. Today if you write something on the internet with your name attached to it all sorts of weird things can happen. I know I'm being a little paranoid but I think that's healthy. I'm going to stop using this account and go back to my "real name" account. It probably won't be hard to figure out which account it is but I'm not really hiding, just trying to not be found if that makes sense. I have learned a lot on this site starting last year and this year I'm going to try to keep a log of my efforts to get my first deer. I want to try to keep the blog anonymous so I'll link it here one time and if you want to follow just subscribe and I'll email it to you every time I post. Every action leaves a thumbprint online. Onions, tor, vpn, and fictitious names are the closest thing to being connected without being "connected" you can get. As far as employers and people checking you out, retail software doesn't have the sophistication or power to crawl the entire internet, decipher your onion IP break your firewall and vpn and then fictitious name, to come up with a true identity and location. Unless you are a wanted criminal, "Been Verified" wont find you. However, mrw is correct, eventually (if the government wants) they can identify you. You better be worth it though, because its not cheap. Just read about Ross Ulbricht "Dread Pirate Roberts" He evaded dea, cia and made billions. Eventually he was caught, but it was incredibly difficult and expensive.

Zone10HNTR....I too am in Sales. I use my truck as my traveling office too...It is covered in archery/hunting info/stickers and my name on the doors...it's who I am. Have camo ties & gun/bow/& antler tie clips I wear daily. Business cards are in a camo wallet. Hard to hide where my heart is. It has never seemed to have hindered my job so far. Folks do ask questions but no negative things so far....just good conversations....both pro and con....All my buddies here....Big Country aka...Jim Potter.

What I love is that there are people that use Google Chrome and then complain about privacy. Google collects and analyzes more data than the NSA. And they're not alone. So what!
