I saw this yesterday on Facebook and found it interesting. I wonder of the people who support this actually go outside and venture on public lands. Seems to me that they are going to try and make a dollar in the future on this.

Unfortunately in some areas the shed hunting has become so popular(driven by price), trespassing has become rampant, and animals disturbed in their wintering yards. FWP places transmitters in antlers so they can follow the travels( chain of custody) of legally and illegally collected antlers. There are illegal collectors, and dealers not reporting revenue. Billings Gazette had a nice article on this last winter.

Another big thing is some of these shed hunters will run animals to their death. They chase the big, worn down elk. They drop their sheds, and sometimes the animals end up dying from exhaustion. What the hell has this world become?!

I saw the same show Wardens that Camp2Dukes mentioned. The crazy scene there. I like to shed hunt but there are times I think it is not a good thing. Winters when snow is deep and temps are cold, we are spooking deer, making them run off and burn calories unnecessarily.

It's all about the almighty $$. Hard to believe that some people will do for a $.
I have 2 sets of Elk antlers in my garage from Elk that I harvested years ago and last summer a guy offered me $125 each when he was at my wife's garage sale. I asked what he was going to use them for. Cut them up and sell them as dog chews. Incredible..... They are NOT for sale...
