I always hear about placing a stand around crop fields. But what if there is no crops. Just cattle land all around with National Forest land. That is where I live. So where do I put up stands. It's not like the public land is huge acreages. It's not. It's small strips of land along the road that backs up to private land. And I have already had 2 stands stolen in the last 10 years. I just don;t know where to put up stands where I wont loose them and will do some good. I live here. I should be able to hunt it.

Sad to say, but 2 stands stolen in 10 years isn't too bad. Anyway, find a good oak area. Then look for the nastiest, thick area within a 1000 yards and hunt somewhere downwind between the 2. Then adjust your stand based on your observations. It usually takes me a couple of years to figure out a piece of property and get stands hung where I want them. Good luck.
