Don't go out in the boonies to cut Osage with one saw. Your saw might get stuck if the tree hangs up and binds your saw and then you have to return home with a saw minus a bar and chain.
LOL there Paul Bunyan......
You. Better have a sharp chain if your cutting Osage.
Yes actually this was a brand new saw and I got to use it for 5 minutes. lol. Going back tomorrow with 3 saws and hopefully within a 1/2 hour we will have enough wood to last us a very long time
You don't have to have a complete extra saw, although its nice. But always carry a spare bar, chain and tool.
Kicking myself in the butt now for not taking a picture:) And kicking myself for not taking my Husqvarna chainsaw. I just knew that Stihl saw would mess up:) Ya should of seen the tears in the eyes of that saw.
Yes I have to admit that husky would have came in handy
We will get it. That is one fine Osage tree:)
I have taken just my one Husky saw, but always have at least one extra bar and chain... and I've needed them. Osage is formidable.
If more than one of us goes, we always take at least two saws. This is good weather for cutting bow wood.
Try splitting some Osage that sat for a few years it's tough stuff. I am planning on cutting some lengths of Osage I'd love to find someone to make me a longbow with it maybe even let me help/see how it is done. I have a good amount of Osage on my property
Okay went back today and got the wood. Took another saw but of course we should have brought 2. Long story but the wood is home
You guys sure that's osage? The color doesn't look right.
That's what I thought too Jeff. But monkey balls all around.
That has polyurethane on it above.
Yep, that one's probably black locust. Got a black light? That could be an osage tree behind it. Got any more pics?
Black locust isn't quite as forgiving as osage, but can make a decent bow.
Way to go Roy. You cut down the wrong tree! ROFLMAO
Tweedle Dee and really old Tweedle Dumb.
How many PBR's does it take to cut the wrong tree....lol
LOL.. But it's still decent bow wood. Didn't realize it till we seen the saw dust. Then said no sense wasting it.
Cut non bow trees all day, but I enjoyed your cutting more, lol
There may have been monkey balls everywhere but the monkeys were cutting the tree
At least it wasn't a telephone pole.
Problem is, we were not drinking. LOL
Beer and chainsaws do not mix well together. They are dangerous enough to start with.
I read a post on the Leatherwall, "MPSH", about two guys going to hunt the last remaining skwerls over in Bedford County.
Now, I read on this here PA Bowsite about two guys going out for the last remaining decent Osage, and they cut a locust.
I should have been with both of these "Groups" yesterday: at least we would have DECENTLY been mired in each situation!
Geez...I needed both these laughs today!
Harry, you're better off right where you are.
R C ain't so dumb after all. We worked in the bow shop yesterday and I learned a lot. Thanks RC
Good day Jerry's bow is looking good
Trying to straighten the limb on mine
Lmao! Roy's sleeping in that first picture, or passed out. That's awesome!
I imagine he'll try to tell us he's visualizing the perfect bend for that stave, using a Jedi mind trick on Kevin, or he can tiller a bow better than us with his eyes closed or something. :^)
lol yes Jeff he might have been passed out
I closed my eyes cause I couldn't watch Kevin screw up again.
OSAGE bow on tiller tree... Color is right. LOL
Shops looking great Roy. You need any help Identifying trees give me a call! LOL
That's right because I just proved I'm not much help. lol
It's what all those Hi-tech bows USED to be made of, Mike! ;-)
"Monkey balls all around"
Roy, you drop your drawers?!? LOL
