Very cool, I would have guessed 3.5 as well. I sent out three sets in december, can't wait to get the results.

Nice. Bottom line is, guys are just guessing at the age of a deer. There isn't any way of knowing, unless it's scientifically proven.

Cool! I'd have guessed 3.5 as well. It is neat to know for sure. One of these years, I may do it.

It is nice to know exactly. But, there is a way without guessing and that is if you have them on your camera every year from the time they are 1.5. I have done that many times correctly. But, if a new deer shows up at a certain point, you will never know for sure without sending the teeth in to be aged.

longbeard....How do you know a Spike from 2018 is the same 8 pointer in 2020?

06-Feb-18
Yes Pat your right the left one was 242lbs dressed and had a 34 inch neck it was harvested in September and the right was 190 dressed harvested in early October

jax I don't and don't need to. Usually you can begin to put antler characteristics with age at 2.5 so I begin there. It's not a perfect system but it works pretty good for me so I'll stick with it. I have to catalog all my deer at 2.5 and name them. Then add to their personal folder as they age

Al where did you send the teeth? Was it Deerage.com?

Longbeard, so it is not a science but I know what you are saying....I have a couple I watch this year never saw hunting so I am curious to see what they look like next fall....This is state land so as long as my spot is not overrun should be interesting....what would be neat for you to do is take one of the teeth you have a age on and see if it is correct

From: longbeard

Yes have done that in the past and was correct each time. Its the bucks that just show up one day that you have no back ground info/pics on that would lead to the guessing game. Like when Pat runs a contest or someone asks you to "age this buck". Not really enough info to make an accurate assessment. Usually going by generalizations of characteristics at that point, not specifics...hence a guess

One sure way to age a deer is to watch them closely on the approach. If their joints are making noise, they can't hear you moving, they can't see you moving and forget where they're going and why,.......that's an old deer. This is a fact!!

Watch to see if it craps itself..thats a sure sign...errrr. gotta go...

Yes Jax deerage. com . They have a new owner now she is a very nice person . Waiting on one more to be done she said it looks like it’s 4.5 or older she took a quick look at it but needs to take a better look.

How does she know the age or what it seems to look like if they send it to a lab. Multiple people have said great things about them and they have good reviews but I must of been the lucky one who had an awful experience with them..
