Took a drive this morning to a local spot to walk the thickets on field edges with shotgun trying to kick out some bunnies, no luck. But warm morning and 7:30 am I see field after field of turkeys with Tom's out strutting. Start walking my field and birds gobbling away in two directions. 1/2 hr into bunny hunt some more birds enter the field more Tom's out strutting. I know it's real early but man it sounded and felt like turkey season at 47 degrees.
Poked my head 70 yds inside woods and just a hop over stone wall into an area full of hollies and cedars and find a nice rub line. All rubs on hollies and cedars. Bookmarked this place :)

Ya , I think I saw that rub too .... now , where was that again B@S ? maybe its the same one ... Kidding friend , I found some good ones today as well. No sheds after miles of searching. As for turkeys , I have 28 regulars and a few old Toms just waiting in the neighborhood.

Ha - I just logged in to report gobbles this AM... Must have been in the air! I was bringing the kids to my folks, get out of the truck, and hear yelps at the back of the neighbor's field. Before I could gobble, I hear a bird double gobble. So I gobble, and we had a little fun back and forth for 5'. All I could see for about 20' was a red dot ;) he he he.
Fun to see them starting to feel it a little :)

Will funny as birds were already gobbling, but neighbor to property was cutting something metal with hack saw for 1/2 hr. The males were going crazy responding to it. That got my blood pumping wishing it was time. :)
Rub question. This rub line was all on hollies and cedars, 5 rubs within 50 yds all on one run. Friend said this is post season why they choose these two tree types and ignore others there. They did look relatively fresh, I'll guess January. Any truth to this?

B&S... no idea. I've read stuff, and seen, where deer preferentially seem to rub certain stuff. For example, areas where they seem to rub mostly hemlocks or little maples etc. My suspicion is that what you are seeing is similar, just a preference for that area.
Fun to hear those gobbles huh :)
