I just asked that question on the Utah State conference. True or not true, or explain.

It was passed on to me from a member of the TAS forum who lives in Utah. Didn't present it as"fact". Just something I heard from a reputable source.

Looking at the 2018 Utah application guide there are only a few archery elk hunt codes that seem to be for a few small specific areas.

To my knowledge Utah has always sold unlimited elk licenses for the 'Any Bull Elk' & 'Spike Bull' units. The Spike Bull units also allow you to kill a cow elk. You are not allowed to hunt big bulls in the 'Limited Entry' units with an over the counter license.

Utah has always had otc elk units. The only change this year is that you can hunt these open areas with all 3 weapons. The otc units are not very good.

I wish people would research before they posted. The otc opportunity has always been available in Utah and hasn't helped Colorado's crowding issue.

Exactly!! The otc units in Utah are tough with low elk numbers and high hunter numbers. They don't kill a lot of elk in those units!!

Ryan, information I posted was to the extent of my understanding of what I heard. I'm not a research department for Bowsite. By the time this topic runs it's course it will all be clarified.
Meanwhile, it gave you something to complain about! :-)
