True or not true? Utah is going to have archery OTC elk tags this year. If so , please explain. Paul

Seems like a poster on the Colorado State Conference did not do his research and provided the wrong info. So forget this post.

Just for reference, that's actually true and always has been. General Archery Elk is the only unlimited OTC tag in Utah. Only 6500 or so people buy them every year as the hunt is not the easiest or most productive. General Elk units in Utah get hammered and like the Wasatch front, some areas have a 4 month long archery season.

It’s a little confusing because they cal the OTC tag a general season tag. What I don’t get is, it appears you can hunt the limited draw units for spike bull only ( using a general season otc tag, if you didn’t draw the limited tag) ?

Correct Ned. You buy a general elk archery and can hunt some any bull areas some limited areas for spike, and most areas cow elk. If you do draw a limited elk tag you dont get put in general draw only one bull tag.

You can hunt your LE unit of desire to draw and scout it with a Spike/cow in most LE overlap units.

You could camp in the central area of 2-3 LE units and be able to hunt on the same OTC Spike/cow tag.

Example Pahvant/Monroe/Fish Lake all close together.

Thanks for that info, I’m looking at the Northern part of the state right now. Looks very interesting and a beautiful place to hunt elk.

You could do North/South Cache LE units on the same Spike/cow tag.

It is beautiful country on the Cache units.
