Has anyone hunted 2/201 of late. I have 16 points and not getting any younger. I heard the counts are way down from 20 yrs ago. Please help!

I was up there last year. Not many antelope. Lots of horses, though.

Might be fun to shoot the horses... cut the horse numbers down and it would certainly make room for more native animals like antelope, deer and elk.

Horses take zero points. I was up there 2 years ago. Not many antelope and the ones I did see could be shot in any zero or 1 point draw area.

I shot mine up there last year. It was a fun hunt. I recommend plenty of scouting and research.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'll try a different unit

201 treated me very well in 2014. Great country, lots of bucks, a few good ones to be found. Plenty of average ones. No one to compete with.

I had an archery doe tag there about 17 years ago we had many come in to the water hole but never saw a buck, just plenty of does. I was there for only one weekend and it was really just a hunt for me and my 7 year old at the time to spend some hunting time together. He had a blast with all the pronghorn does, grouse and horses that came to water.

here is an interesting comparison, via, the CPW 2017 Hunt Guide for NW Colorado
Pronghorn" unit 2/201 est pop = 630 pronghorn Objective= 3200
Just to the east unit 2/301 est pop - 17,685 Objective= 15,800
If I remember correctly, there was a very bad drought, maybe 15 plus years ago in the 2/201 units forcing many of the pronghorn to move farther east where there was more agriculture land to feed on. Fawn recruitment was down also. Based on the numbers above, it seems they never really reestablished them selves back in 2/201.

3/301 to the east of 2/201

Bet if you look at the horse population over that same period, you’re going to see a direct correlation.

Treeline's Link
Here is a link to the BLM's data. Horse populations are over the carrying capacity across the range and the long-term off range storage facility is over capacity as well.
Let's hope that the new administration will be able to do something to control these non-native invasive species that are out competing native species on our public lands.
