After creating many piles of rubble I finally managed to craft what I will call a arrowhead. It has a pretty sharp edge. Tekoa

Tekoa, can you give us more information? What is the material, and how did you shape the arrowhead?

The material is "Dacite" courtesy of Ebay. It is supposedly a good stone for beginning knappers. I started with a rock about the size of a brick. Using a "hammerstone", a fancy name for a hard rounded rock that fits in your hand, I removed a large flake that eventually became this arrowhead. The final shaping was with deer antler. The hammer stone I picked up at the local river. The deer antlers were from that pile we all have in our garages. There are many good you tube videos which is where i got most of my information. Then it is just a matter of doing it, with repetition you start to visualize what will happen based on how you hit the stone. I've broken a lot of stone with nothing to show but a big pile of chips. This one I really slowed down and thought about every strike. The picture doesn't show it but it is still a bit thick and it stills needs a bit of work. This might become very addicting. And many states allow you to hunt with them. NY does. Tekoa

How strange, the newest technology being used to learn the first technology.

It makes you reflect on just how man kind over comes obstacles from day one. Great job, they will only get better from here. Have a few on display and it always amazes me.....

Tekoa, that is amazing. I hope you get the opportunity to use it. Was going to ask if that was flynt, but you already answered my question. How many you going to make and what is your shaft wood going to be ?

Xi, If I am successful knapping some better heads I hope to build a 100% primitive arrow using a hardwood shoot collected from behind the house, wild turkey feathers, sinew, pine tar glue etc. What is more likely to happen is that I use a tapered 23/64" cedar shaft, we'll see. No set number on how many heads I plan to make, only need one. But ask Will how many flies he ties in a season. I see this as another hobby rabbit hole that won't stop once I get a few heads good enough to hunt with. Tekoa

Nice job how much do they weigh

Captain, This one is around 200 grains but it still needs thinning. Should end up in the low 100's. An equal volume of steel is heavier then most stone.
