So we will be going into the third season of hunting our 220 acre property in Jefferson county. We’ve had success but nothing crazy.

Anyways, in the off-season we’ve been working on making more trails and as always, taking down as much buckthorn as we can. I thought the topic of how people go about laying out their land with trails, stands, etc would be a good topic to get us through the offseason.

The land consists of ag land, woods, a creek, with some marsh as well.

Our problem or hurdle with getting to and from our stands is that we almost always have to go past an ag field. This is just based on our access point and how the ag fields are laid out. This posses problems with bumping deer on the way out in the morning or way in at night. Especially this past year because the farmer had radishes planted. Does anyone else deal with this hurdle?

If it helps to give people perspective I can probably get a map of our land on here somehow too.

Every piece is different but figuring out ingress and egress is the first thing for you to figure out. Create screening with tress or a mix of things like Egyptian wheat, sorghum etc.

Supplying a map would be beneficial. Like skook said, every piece of land different. On our property we have ag on both sides so we plant "staging plots" that lead into the ag fields on each side for different wind directions with access trails going around the border of the property. Then we hingecut areas in the middle of the property for bedding.
