My son's have enough points to apply in for Units 61 or 10. They are in their early 30's and we all think they need to burn there points and start applying for 2 or 3 point units, instead of holding out for Units 2 or 201. I have done some research in 61 but not much in Unit 10. Any advice, information or opinions on these two units would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM me. Thank you

At this point, Id wait and read the 2018 hunt reports that come in and then start asking questions next winter to be ready to apply next April

How about a late August camping trip? See what’s out there. Terrain, animals, access, etc.

If you have enough points for 10, that is what I would do. Don't overthink it, unit 10 is a great place to bowhunt.

Cnelk, I am inquiring now to try and gather as much info as possible. As ucsdryder is suggesting, we plan on an August trip to check out area 10, and would like to take a look at Unit 2 (I've got enough points). I have been in Unit 61, and we've always thought that is where they would go(in fact my sons drew it last year, but a bull moose tag had them turn it in and get points back). I just don't know a lot about 10 and am trying to broaden my knowledge.

Thanks to all who have PM'd me, some great thoughts and ideas....

Have one of them apply for 61 next year and the other apply for 10 the next. You get to hunt two primo units two years in a row and it’s less of a gamble.

Or even go all out - you draw 2 and they draw 10 for the same year! That could be a blast if you guys can make the time...

Ive hunted both 10 and 61 and killed bulls in each. Two different types of terrrain.

Personally I liked 61 better

Imo 61 does not deserve to be in the same discussion as 10 or 2. It is a no brainer to go to 10 if they have the points. You will not find a place that has more bugling insanity on public ground in CO than 10.

How many points do your sons have?

I put 16 towards 61 this year. Didn't even really think about unit 10 as it was a couple points ahead of me and there are so many other great units to hunt. We have it good!

Finally got 61 this year. Will be fun hunt for sure. Will do August scouting also

All those trophy units will provide an unforgettable experience.

Both will be a great time...10 will absolutely have better top end quality.

They should have snagged one of the 31 unit 61 1st rifle reissue tags sold for zero pref points yesterday and have a trial run this week. amazing.
