I have to head to Rapid City for a wedding in August and I was planning to stay and bowhunt antelope. Any suggestions on campgrounds in the NW corner of the state to stay? Planning to stay in a tent.

Reva Gap or Picnic Spring are Forest Service campgrounds you can use.

There is also Wickham Gulch Campground just west of Camp Crook. It's just barely into Montana but I've stayed there a couple of times and I'm usually the only one there.

Thanks guys! How’s the antelope population looking? Would it be worth trying to find a waterhole on public land to set up a blind on?

It really varies even within a county. Parts of Harding County you won't hardly see any antelope but other parts you have to be careful to not get ran over. I would say go for it.

I wouldnt mind camping in the Wickham Gulch Campground Campgroung. I like to get away from people. How are the antelope numbers that far NW?

I'll probably be there the first week of the season. There are always a lot of antelope right there west of Camp Crook, but they are on private. Within a 10 or 20 minute drive I can get into plenty of antelope to fail at stalking for several days. It can get pretty busy in certain parts of the county but I always seem to be able to avoid people. I have a feeling the first two weeks of September are going to be really busy with the dates of our deer season being moved up.

How’s the cell coverage in the Camp Crook area?

No cell service historically, but that could always change with a new tower. I have Verizon and usually get service about 10 miles east of Camp Crook.

There is an AT&T tower just north of Camp Crook. Everything else is spotty.

Is there a gas station in Camp Crook? Looking on Google Earth and Google search doesn't give me much.

I'll be out in that area from 8/17 until I kill my antelope or my wife calls me home. I can PM my phone number if you have any questions.
