Not sure what went wrong, Sunday evening had a bear come in and I put a shot on him about 14 yards away, thought it was a good shot. Rains came in and hardly found blood, searched till 10:30. Came back in the morning and found about 5 large spots which and no arterial blood. Ended up grid searching for 4.5 hours, then went back to work, returned at lunch spent another hour, nothing. My visiting cousin was riding my four wheeler and with the aide of stench, found him curled up in a brush pile of a large blow down my neighbor and I have been working on. Needless to say, nothing but the skull was salvageable. The hit 3/4s up the right shoulder (which was back) angling down to the rear arm pit of the left shoulder. The last 8 inches of the arrow was still in the wound, blood looked like it should have flown. This is the second bear I've ever shot with my bow so my experience is lean, can anyone tell where I went wrong. I hate losing an animal though I now it happens, yeI felt really good about the shot and felt good that shot should have produced some arterial blood.

Sorry to hear about that Koog - it happens some times but it’s good to see ya kept looking! Now let’s hope for some cooler temps - I don’t have enough extension cords to run to my stands to run a fan!

My experience on bears is to center em up. Maybe a tad forward of center. Stay away from shoulder. But it does happen. I’m no expert for sure but that has worked for me. And yes it’s been hot. Seems like it’s like this every year.

I hit him in the shoulder but his shoulder was back. Arrow passed thru and came out very low behind the left shoulder in the arm pit so to speak. The chest was full of blood when I found him, the fletch still inside him. Some reason though the blood was not exiting. Maybe the rain washed more away than I thought, he died in a reasonable amount of distance, guess I expected more blood.

I understand but you got a dead bear. You maybe should have pot a dog on it. I had an old dog that would have found it. If it was dead she found it

How far was the Total distance from where you shot him til you found him ? I've killed several bear, most don't bleed outside But Little, thick hair and fat, most Double Lung 25-70 yards, Sounds like possible 1 lung and liver with his leg back, Did you open him up to see what you hit ?

Well, the stench was over whelming. He made it 250 to 300 yards. The wound was back of right shoulder passing thru to the left arm pit high to low. I probed it with my finger, look good. Chest was full of blood low exit. Only thing I can say is possibly the rain washed some of the blood away. His bearing the from the last blood took him fairly close to the house and I worked that area for about 3 hours in the search, just missed finding him curled up in that brush I had piled up. Nothing I can do now but chalk it up to learning, even old dogs still learn. I don't usually give up and I did spend 7 to 9 hours trying to locate him that night and next morning lunch and evening. Most guys would have dismissed him before that and convinced himself the shot didn't kill him, but I knew. I probably spent countless hours over the years studying shot angles and the organs I should get a hit on. And when I'm sure of the shot, I don't give up the search. 2015 shot a nice buck in KS quartering away, no exit wound, one tiny spec of blood. Spent the next 6 hours grid searching. Had a guy who was a working hand helping me for a couple hours. He dismissed it, but I knew that shot was as fatal as it gets and kept looking. Finally found him 80 yds away on the neighbors ranch, laying in a wide gully heading to a small patch of timber 300 yds away.
