CPW Northeast Sportspersons Caucus to be held on Feb. 15 DENVER, Colo. – Big Game Season Structure, license allocations, and waterfowl season dates are a few of the issues on the agenda for the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Northeast Sportspersons Caucus. The Feb. 15 Caucus will convene at 6 p.m. in the Hunter Education Building on the CPW Northeast campus at 6060 Broadway, Denver. The meeting will also be streamed live on CPW’s Facebook page.

CPW Northeast Sportsperson Caucus Representatives Paul Navarre and Brian Soliday will open the meeting with announcements. Northeast Region Manager Mark Leslie will then discuss agency updates.

“We always look forward to meeting and hearing from our hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts at the caucuses,” said Leslie. “This is the time to bring up the issues which matter to the region.”

“Colorado sportsperson participation is critical to these meetings. Investing a few hours to attend can make a big difference,” said Soliday.

The wolf reintroduction draft plan and upcoming public meetings will be highlighted by Deputy Region Manager Kristin Cannon.

Deputy Region Manager Scott Roush will update the Sportsperson’s Caucus on the Keep Colorado Wild Pass.

Jeff Spohn, senior aquatics biologist, will present an overview on aquatics issues. Senior Wildlife Biologist Lance Carpenter will provide an update on terrestrial topics, including the Northeast Pronghorn Herd Management Plan.

Potential changes to the waterfowl season dates/split and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza update will be discussed by Deputy Region Manager Shannon Schaller.

A presentation on Big Game Season Structure and its planning process will be given by Area Wildlife Manager Jason Duetsch.

Johnathan Boydston, public involvement planning specialist, will present license allocations updates.

After the regional overview, the majority of the caucus will be spent hearing from attendees, in-person and virtual, asking questions and commenting on agenda topics.

The caucus will end at 8 p.m.

I do not have the 'book of faces'. Can someone summarize the meeting yesterday?

Keith and Steve, thanks for you interests in what is going on in the NE CPW Region. If you have any topics you want considered, please contact me. All we can do is try to get hunters, fishers, trappers involved and up to date on the many issues/subjects Paul

Hope your turnout is better than the SW caucus we just had. Granted it was snowing but its pretty sad when only a handful of hunters show up to these meetings

Ryan, yea, we had 10 in person and around 45 on Facebook live. Weather was a factor for some as roads were ice/snow. Hopefully more will watch the meeting on CPW Facebook as it is now available. Our next Caucus meeting in the NE will be in August, most likely at Scheels/Loveland.

I watched your SW meeting, not a good setup shooting down the hall it seemed, and the audio was not good as the mike was too far away.

Thanks Paul...somehow managed to find it!

Another question; I saw something mentioned about adding additional another rifle season for buck & doe pronghorn. However, I can't find any additional info on that. I went to the BGSS link they provided and drew a zero. Any idea what that is about? After all, there are currently early & late season hunts in some units, with the late season being primarily a doe hunt.

Thanks for your help!

I believe that, the "additional rifle buck/doe pronghorn season" for the future, was one of the questions from a recent CPW BGSS survey; asking participants to support and not support that recommendation.
