Funny things can happen to collars. Scott

When the feds originally collared the female before she came down to Walden, they identified her as a male.

Everyone screws up at work but my faith in agencies doing a good job with wolves is fairly low at the moment.

Maybe it was intentionally put on to loose. Maybe that agent who put the collar on wants to SSS.

It would be nice if that wolf was killed and the hero just left the collar. :)

"Wildlife officials aren't sure how the collar slipped off. The collars are fitted around the wolf's neck in a way that ensures they do not restrict breathing but are intended to be tight enough so as not to slip over the head, the agency told the Coloradoan."

How many times does a dog slip out of their collars? It's not impossible. Next time ignore the breathing restriction part of it. At least you will know where the wolf is when you find the collar.
