Kansas Meat Pole 2023
Kansas
Contributors to this thread:
Well folks, the Kansas deer season has once again graced us with its presence. The days are getting shorter, and the temps more crisp. Soon the leaves will begin to fall, and our dreams of rutting bucks will become reality. I pray that we all have a safe, successful, and blessed hunting season. With that said, it’s time to head out amongst ‘em, fling some arrows, and get some meat hung on the pole! Best of luck to all, and share pictures of your successful harvests here.
Good luck too everyone... be safe
Guess i'll bring this up top even though this one was out of MO.
Nostalgic hunt with my brother on the place we grew up hunting. Packed her up a hill for one picture with him.
Landowner has changed a lot, but we sure had some great memories there growing up.
Nice Joe congratulations.
Looks like fun and good meat.
Always a good time with family, congrats!
Sounds like fun! Enjoy those tenderloins!
Packing a deer for a picture, sounds like something my wife would make me do. :-)
Congrats on killing some nice venison.
Congrats on killing some nice venison.
Congrats. Sounds like a great time with your brother. Wish I was stout enough to pose for a photo like that, I’d be laying on the ground ;)
Thanks for the kind words all. He was my hunting buddy growing up. Since I moved west, haven't been able to get much time in woods together so special morning.
Brian - there's a reason i haven't mentioned how many breaks i needed on the way out!
Beautiful chilly morning
Beautiful chilly morning
Beautiful crisp morning, change is in the air. Watched him come across 100yds of grass and right by my stand headed for corn. Judging by his fat content, winter is coming early and hard.
Bout' time somebody posts some antlers.
Thanks everyone, kids enjoyed a few hours playing hooky until mom made them go back to school, after dragging, gutting, and helping dad load the deer. Did some scouting tonight and seems like their starting to move a little. Good luck everyone and god bless! Jerkey for me tomorrow 20lb first batch.
Nice looking buck. Good move letting them skip a couple classes I got a chuckle out of your daughter in the picture

Fiance's first ever archery deer off my 42 acres last night. I made sure to mention to please not hold me to this every year for her!
Wow, very nice! Congrats!
That's about as nice an 8 point there ever was. What a buck!
Great looking buck Joe. Congrats to both of you.
Haven't been on in a while. Congrats to all! some nice harvests here!
Not a whole lot going on the pole. Guess I'm not the only one not seeing shooters!
Heck, I have hardly seen anything yet.;(
Not seeing many deer in general. I don't know that I have seen it this dead. Very few does on camera.
Dead zone on my end as well in central KS. Cams over my mocks have died in the last week. I get the joy of the 70 degree weather first of next week.

Same here for my 2 1/2 days so far fellas.
I had a giant around me for 2 hours this morning. I was just waiting for him to give me a shot. Then he blew out of there and ran across the road when about a dozen pheasant hunters came waltzing in. Had to involve the game warden.
I was extremely blessed with an opportunity at my #1 target on November 9th. He gave me the slip last Veterans Day as I wimped out to get down and briefly warm up at truck. I freshened a scrape and changed a trail cam card over it only to find later he came in 12 minutes after getting down. He earned the nickname “The General” that day. Never had another chance at him last year.
I played my cards and even worked November 8th for the first time I can remember. I just knew I needed the right wind and got one on the 9th that I could hunt all-day. He was using that wind to quarter along the scrape line I had made. The sun was up and I didn’t risk too much on the video but stopped him in front of me at just 23 yards and made the shot count. I feel very fortunate to have gotten the chance after hunting some of those brutal warm temps. Good luck to all of you and congrats to all who have had success.
What a unique buck, great history too, congrats buddy!
Hell of a buck Dylan!
Bummer Jeff. Assume they were trespassing?
Good buck Dylan with lots of character…congratulations.
Nice deer. Yep trespassing.
Damn fine animal!! Congrats
That's what I'm talking about.... congratulations dylan
Thanks all. Westks, that’s a tough break for sure. Some seasons seem to be full of things out of our control and others we just somehow avoid. Sorry to hear you dealing with that. Keep after it!
Congrats Dylan! Can’t wait to see the footage
Great buck Dylan. Congrats
Awesome Dylan!! Can't wait to see the film!
Some dandies have been taken on the family ranch here in the past week. Things are starting to get good around here!
That’s a hell of a buck Kyler.
There is an even bigger one in there with him that I hope to cross paths with. ;)
You gentlemen have a wonderful state.
11-10-23
Hunt Man....looks like you got yourself a fighter! Open country too. Did you get him via spot and stalk, decoy or other? Congrats!
Some good deer y’all….congrats.
Kyler I didn’t think y’all had big deer in the southeast part:?)
Nicely done, Hunter! Glad you enjoyed your time in our state!
Mike, if they can make it to maturity, the bucks around here generally turn in to something worth looking at.

Not the best quality, but I’ve always said I won’t let the camera cost me an animal. Not sure how much that’s true, but I do believe overall if calms me as I attempt to capture the moments. Looking forward to following all of your adventures and stories.

Very nice deer Dylan, congrats !
About 300 miles away from pat and no corn in sight. But you know Old Thornton knows it all!!
Michael…nice job. Always look forward to what you hang on the meat pole each year.
Nice one Michael! Congrats.
Love them wide racks. Congrats Mike.
Huntman- Ole JT knows most anything about everything. Master of his trades from mowing lawns to Nursing. A true Cazador when it comes to deer hunting. Just ask him. :)
Congrats to all those who have tagged out and good luck to those still with tags. I will live vicariously through your posts!
Below is the buck I shot on the 5th of November. Hope you guys enjoy it.

Nice job Chris, congrats!
Nice job Chris, congrats!
I just took time to watch both videos, some great stuff guys! Chris that "unicorn" buck was cracking me up, he's trouble!
Started saddle hunting this year. Been a learning curve for sure, but I really like it so far. The mobility factor is huge, especially this time of year. Couple that with my faithful buck decoy and I got lucky on this old buck yesterday morning. Shot him at 8 steps!
Kicker….congrats he’s a beauty!
Heck of a buck Tony, congrats!
That’s what I’m talking about Tony…congratulations
Thanks guys!!
Awesome Tony! I have yet to try the saddle I bought a couple years ago.
Chris I didn’t make the time yesterday to watch your video but I just did now. Awesome footage as always and I love the bobcat…they have a cool walk. Great buck as well and thanks for sharing.
Chris…loved the video!!! Tell your dad he did a great job videoing. Look forward to seeing the video of your dads when he eventually tags out.
Enjoyed the video Chris.
Great buck Tony.
Thanks guys. I wish everyone well and for good hunts going forward. Still lots of good days left.
Shot this guy Friday night at 4:15. He was trailing a doe. He went by at 50 yards behind the doe at first. Then 5 minutes later the doe came back by at 20 yards and he was right behind her. I came to full draw and of coarse he stopped at my 20 yard window but had 2 small trees blocking his vitals. He let out a big snort wheeze at a yearling that was 10 yards away. He then took his needed 2 steps forward and the arrow was on it's way. He crashed maybe 50 yards away. He's an 8X6 . Gross scored him at 178 5/8"
Heck of a deer Ryan, I think the hat sealed the deal!
That's what we're all after!
Not a whitetail, but shot in Kansas.
Todd, That is a rare Kansas trophy.
There has to be a story on that cow
Awesome guys! What a beast of a buck and an awesome cow!
Jason- I self-film all the time. Dad was in a tree about 800 yards away when I shot that buck. Hopefully, we can get one on film for him as well!
Awesome buck Jug. Congrats. Some good looking elk steaks Ironbow. Congrats
Chris…even more impressive. You did great on that!
Ryan….great buck for sure!
Todd… a special trophy right there and great meals ahead too!
Congrats on a good buck Jug and I love the scenery in the pic.
Ironbow that’s a lot of good eating…congrats
Jug congrats on that huge buck. He’s impressive.
Having a really good year. Shot this 5 x 5 tonight. I passed him Saturday night and regretted it. He came back tonight and there was no hesitation.
Okay Todd that’s enough:?)
Man that’s a great buck too and way to get it done…congrats again
Great buck IronBow!! Congrats
Son and I tagged out about fifteen minutes apart. Check out full story on main page Black Friday Double!

It was a great write up, and hunt, congrats to you both again!
Now that’s a double right there. Congrats to both ou and your son. Memories neither of you will forget.
A little late to post my buck, but I shot this old 8 on 11/2 at an abandoned farmstead. He ran and expired right by the old sheds. Very blessed!
Congrats Tanner and Lucas
Great buck Tanner. Congrats
Oh yeah I like that one…he looks old too. Congrats Tanner.

I did manage to tag out on 12-14. It has been a great year. I missed a nice bull in ID but managed to connect on one in WY and an aoudad in Feb with my dad.
That's a great year Jason, congrats!
I took this big doe on Thanksgiving morning. I was supposed to be at my sister's at noon for Thanksgiving. I called her and said I would be a little late, just save me something to eat. She said she would and did so.
Congrats on some great animals Jason. Looks like a big doe Lee, congrats.
Yep…congrats Jason and Lee
I love December 31. Have killed 10 deer on this day over the years. Here is tonight’s! Great way to end the year!
Yes. It's a rifle kill. But my 17yr and 14yr old sons (Ethan and Ely) went out this evening by themselves. Ely got the first deer for our family this year. Ethan got an elk in Colorado in October. It's a good time to be out doe hunting. Everyone has quit putting out corn so the deer are starting to pile in on the nearby food sources. Could count on one hand how many deer I seen on this property all season. 10-15 been out on it every evening for over a week now. They will probably go out next weekend for the Ethan to get one. Will be set for meat for a while.
Good job men, and thanks for passing it on Rusty
Congrats Rusty and Todd.
Rusty with me having 2 teenage boys I can relate to this but the only difference is my youngest boy hasn’t caught the hunting bug yet. Pretty special you have both of em in the outdoors.
The boys went out tonight so Ethan could fill his tag. I haven't filled a tag since I think 2019. So I wanted to try something a little different. I took my 44 mag Ruger revolver out last night and shot a doe. 50yds with iron sight. We are done for the year. 3 does
Congrats Rusty! Glad you and the boys all got deer this yr!
Your .44 mag a Blackhawk or Redhawk?
I bought a pair of them from a pawn shop probably 15yrs ago. Traded one for a S&W M&P15 about 10yrs ago. Always wanted to shoot a deer with it. Probably take it elk hunting on my next tag
That's pretty cool, congrats boys!
Love those Ruger .44's! That's a nice one!
Break out the garlic butter! Nice going!
Always wanted to shoot one with my revolver KsRancher. My buddy and I went out Saturday because he had a tag left and the buck doe ratio is way put of whack. Saw over 40 deer in an afternoon and only 10 were bucks. I shot mine with an 1892 lever action in .44-40 WCF, the round that "won the West". It only shoots about 1100 fps in a 200 gr bullet. It was so slow, you can see the bullet on both shots at 140 yards on the video of my young doe. We picked young, barren does with no fawns. I carried mine 3/4 mile.
Rifle hunting is alot of fun, and some great meat there.
