I heard several gobblers sounding off at pre dawn this morning, in the far west burbs of the twin cities. Won’t be long and we will be chasing them with bows and sharp sticks.

New rule this year need to have blaze orange on your blind if hunting turkeys on public land. The birds are smart enough after a few weeks of hunting. This ought to be interesting.
Good thing for me I have access to private land....

Had a wild peacock running around with a flock of turkeys here a few years ago. He had a mohawk, maybe he moved north!

Maybe I should play some punk rock instead of yelping and cackling this spring.

Pretty cool! I’ve been seeing them from time to time the last couple years near deer river. Wolves are pushing south and turkeys pushing north.

I passed on hunting the opener today. Was supposed to rain, but it didn’t. I’ll be in a blind tomorrow at sunrise. Good luck to you guys that are chasing toms.

I went out opener and had an unbelievable morning passing on 9 jakes and 4 birds I think were 2 1/2 year olds all at my decoy 8 yds away. Thursday same place had one come in, I don't know where they all went. This morning my son in law went with me for the first ever hunting anything and the 9 jakes came in and he shot one with my 12 gauge at 6:30. I'll give it another try Monday and hope for some older birds.

I shot one opening day in the rain. Saw 5 big toms, 4 hens and a jake. Picture of a soggy wet bird isn't pretty so I won't post it. 21# ,10 1/2 beard, 1 & 1 1/4 spurs. Went out with my wife Friday morning we heard only a few gobbles and saw one hen. The flock was in a different field behind us. At 32 degrees it was cold and snowing.
