I can tell the ice isn't safe just by looking at it. When the wind blows, there are waves.

Two people in my town went through the ice yesterday one was ok the other was life flighted to hospital

Ma-Pa I’m in zone seven I guess it all depends where you are. I seen Wilga’s picture of his monster pike with snowmobiles on the ice.

There's an ice rink in the park across the street from my house with 8" of water that hasn't frozen all winter. Weird stuff.
