Took a break & went scouting & shed hunting . 65 , sunny , dangerously dry . Checked a few Beaver ponds . Very low . We need some precise.
Beautiful looking pond Ruger.
Beautiful looking pond Ruger.
We sure do need some rain/snow, big time. All the reservoirs are lowered for spring flood. That aint happening this year. Going to be a lot of lower units taken out, plus streams drying up. Saw it a couple times. Kind of eerie to see a stream bed with no water.
Hoot , It's 1 mile off the road & connects with a Trout stream . Catch a few Brookies tgere every year .
Heard that there are 38 brush fires burning around the state at. noon .
Ruger - I see they have a wildfire just north of you towards Tomahawk.
Hoot , there's 38 smalls fires burning right now . Talking to a younger neighbor about potential fire problems . He said " WE don't big fires here " .
I asked him if he heard of the town of Peshtigo . He said " No " .
Going to be a cold one on the water today.
Got out on Wednesday and Thursday.
Good looking perch!! MjF, you fishing off one of the floats?
Real slow fishing today, did manage a few perch, such a light bite, frozen hands, other than that I stayed warm. I did catch a small sturgeon. It was a good day
This picture is me with a Toad of a pike . Look at that girth . Took 15 minutes to land it . This was on the floats at Genoa. Great fishing . That was 50 years ago
After catching your limit of Walleyes you fished toward shore for white bass & Perch .
Then you spent all nite cleaning fish & drinking PBR'S .
This cold weather keeps up we will be ice fishing in no time lol
Mike - Is this picture Chequamegon Bay?
for those thinking of shed hunting, had a buck walk thru the front yard at 5:30 pm yesterday that still had half his rack on his head
Jim yes it is, off of Bayview Beach, usually we are fishing on up until late April, was really looking forward to those stealhead in front of the Sioux river
I will be up to Brule for steelhead the end of March into April.
Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan
GM - nice pic...this should be a post card!
Tried scouting & shed hunting this morning. The WInd was brutal . Did score on this one . Dipped it in chili sauce & gave it to one of the labs . She's still chewing on it .
Greg, I've got that same stocking with the light. I however don't have the same pike lol.

Grape, you tipup fishing them or rod/reel? Nice pike.
Both. New rig “ fish fooler”
Live. Really fun with that rig and big fish.
Grape - How big was that pike? Trophy for sure.
Wow, what a fish. This weekend is going to be a cold one on the river, I rented a place on the river, will try some night fishing for walleyes. Looks like up to 8 inches of snow for northern Wisconsin.
We need that moisture big time, white rain or rain rain. Grape, I bet that was a fun fight. Used to tussle big lakers through the ice with rod n real, can't beat it.
Sorry live…..Finicky Fooler
Live2Hunt yes those big lakers puts a guys strength to the test especially battling in 190 ft of water.
Your going to be sore after that trip Grape!!!!
Those are some beauties. Having a blast I bet.
Beautiful morning on the river except fish are not biting
That’s a tank Grape!!! How big is that”
Nice , Grape , I year I whacked my buck on Monday morning so Rollie took me out there twice. Heck of a fishery. I cut up & prepared the Walleyes for Teresa to serve to the guys one nite .
Never thought I would spend that much money on a fishing rod but I splurged this morning at Scheels on my very first St Croix rod, 7ft medium lite with a 15 year warranty (went from 5 years to 15)
You will love it. All I use is St Croix. I love the sensitivity for the light bite.
Xtroutx I watched two guys last week hammer the walleyes on the Mississippi while others weren’t catching a thing, I’m not a shy guy and approached them and asked about there setup and they were more than happy to show me, St Croix rods and using a 1oz weight off of a 3way swivel with a 5 foot mono leader and tied on was two flies. I was so impressed it motivated me to make the purchase. I’m heading out tomorrow to give it a try.
I like my StCroix rods also. The plant is not far from our cabin. I also have some of the Scheels Walleye series rods I like. Great service if the get broke.
Mike - I used that setup and it's a killer. Good luck.
The setup worked well for perch. I didn’t catch a walleye but there sure is a technique one needs to learn to be successful. I had a guy about 20 ft away slaying the walleyes, I watched his every move and the only difference was the color of the fly, I didn’t realize that could make such a difference but I guess it does, I’m going to purchase multiple colors soon. I had a blast though
Went hiking this morning to check Deer patterns & Trout stream . That heavy wet snow last week helped the water situation a little . Felt good to get out . I have been so busy .
Met 2 more Bowsiters this week when they stopped by and bought some stuff .
Here's an all time 1st for me . I heard a scream in the Marsh. A minute later an Eagle flew overhead with a Cat in its claws . I gave the Eagle a thumbs up .
Took Advantage of the morning rain & checked my best spot . My bruiser is still crossing the Trout stream to head to the Oak ridge.
Just caught this 20 incher , right at dusk . It will look good tomorrow next to some baby reds in a garlic butter sauce.
And west of Mankato Mn today Sunday
Thursday near Fountain City. Five northern with the biggest at 36” that all went back.
Beautiful catch, spring ya gotta love it!
Thanks Mike, that river is an amazing resource we are very lucky to have relatively easy access to.
Got a limit of perch also this weekend. Snuck out Sunday in the rain. Figured I would be by myself. I was and had the whole thing to myself until another idiot came that did not have sense enough to get out of the rain either. Fun day. I released a bunch that were 13-14" +.
Beautiful catch of fish guys. I'm jealous.
Jim, maybe next spring we can spend a day or two doing some catching?
I'd like that. Thanks for the offer.
Annual turkey scouting trip with son and grandkids , I love this as much as hunting
Checking their new binoculars , Of course the younger one likes to goof around and hold his backwards lol
Wouldn’t be complete with out going to the snack log by the river
River is pretty high , Wont be able to cross it for a while , where we’ve shot a few , Boys gotta throw a few sticks in the river
Great day with the young'uns. Memories are forever.
Great day on the Mississippi…. 14 Walleyes, 4 White Bass and 5 small mouths, 1 perch. Used my new fly set up and boy it is awesome, only lost about 4 flies.
Tied my first ever Walleye Fly
Hope some kids did well on turkeys today
We had a fun little morning in the turkey woods with my nephew tagging his 3rd Tom and my son sitting on the ground with me for the first time. He did pretty decent sitting still, or at least about what I expected :)
It was the way god intended, lots of gobbling, strutting, and drumming before a nice gimme 20 yard shot after he put on a show. Called him across the road after the one we roosted followed his hens. Proud of my nephew for waiting to swing on him until he got into the decoys and covered up.
A couple of happy boys! Congrats!!
Hunting for those huge famous lake Okoboji bluegills in Iowa today.
Great pic . To you younger fellows . Take lots of pictures & store them .I show pics of the 60's , 70's , 80 ,s , 90 ,s & Many hunters say I wish I took more pictures .
Congratulations to the young hunters , Awesome pics and great memories To add to what Ruger said , make sure to date and identify anyone in any pics you get printed , Ask me how I know lol
It's just great to see the young hunters out hunting and enjoying our great outdoors.
