Crisis In Oregon

For years you were not allowed to pump your own fuel in Oregon. As of Jan 1,2018 you can choose to pump your own fuel in rural areas.
What sucked about it the most was spending an extra 15 minutes waiting on a gas jockey to meander about at a snails pass with cars lined up. You learned real quick to fill up when ever you saw a station slow or empty. I only knew of one station who made their employees hustle, I used it regularly and tipped them a buck.
That's a labor union's mentality for you...
Geez.....I had two tours in Oregon and I despised that dopey gas law. It was there under the guise of creating "jobs". Maybe all those new Trump jobs are hitting Oregon making gas pump jobs obsolete?
We're in the age of the wimp, aka metrosexual wussies. Pumping gas is tough? 15 year old girls in Colorado can figure it out. Gosh, if we have to go to war with a bunch of Oregon pajama boys, our grandkids will be speaking Korean.
It's not a union thing, it's a fire marshal thing and it created jobs when all of the lumber mills went bust.
I've driven through Orygun frequently over the years on my way to and from hunts in BC.
When possible, I fill my tank in No. Cal before I cross the OR border, then don't gas up again until I get to WA,
A few years ago, I had to fill up in OR. I had the audacity to politely complain about OR's stupid law to the attendent (who took several minutes to come to my vehicle), then he threatened to call the cops on me because I'd complained about their stupid law!''
No, I am NOT making this up!
No, not a union thing direct. The mentality of it - "it's my job [craft] and only I can do it".
The issue has been put to a vote at least three times to be beaten easily. Far fewer fuel spills since they can't top off. Diesel can still be self served. My wife hates it because it's never fast. I'm retired and have no p roble letting them pump. Especially when it's in the teens and single digit temps.
A state run bt Pot heads.
Sorry to say I live here but my truck only uses the “green gas”. Nice thing though is my truck also has a plug on the front of it so when I park in the “electric” charging spots at the mall (when I dreadfully have to go to town) you should see the looks on the greenie weenie’s faces when I complain about the 110 charging plug on the front of my truck not working. The best part is those spots are right up front and my truck fits in em well.
Yeah, and I’m sure those pumping gas make the same wages that they did working in the forest industry ?
Is that broad pumping diesel fuel in her tank?
Yes...if it's "green", it's gotta be eco-correct.
Ha! Remember when fill necks where behind the license plate?
:-)

Check comments at end. not sure if these are fake news or not but I wouldn't doubt them.
Heck I remember when they hid some behind tail lights. I used to work at a gas station in the 60s and early70s. 53 Cadillac did that and I think 56 Chevy.
Diesel pump won't fit a gas vehicle where I come from, but maybe she's used to ramming things to make 'em fit..
If those comments are true and not fake, I'd bet a hamburger those commenters live near the I-5 corridor. I'm sorry....someone that doesn't know how to pump gas into their own car needs to turn in their keys. If it's a guy...he needs to turn in his man card too.
They can roll a perfect joint but can't pump gas?
I can't figure out for the life of me why car manufactures can't put the gas fill cap on the driver's side of the car. I have an ancient Toyota pickup with the fill cap on the passenger side. Ridiculous if you ask me.
Spike, they're not all snowflakes. I knew some fine people when I lived there on the SW coast. The I-5 corridor controls the state politics and in my opinion it's why the state is screwed up. It's a beautiful place....just screwed up politics.
I liked the one commenter who said she/he was afraid to get out the car to pump gas because of all transients.

This is a hilarious 10 step method for Oregonians to learn how to pump gas. I like the first GIF.
It is a darn shame we have to pump our own gas these days.
Clean my windshield and check the oil young man. I am for child labor and no minimum wage....
No he hasn't been to Oregon..... nor has he been to Detroit..... He only leaves his parents basement in Texas to walk to the grocery store for his mother.....
I have relatives in Oregon. Son and his family as well as in laws. My son will tell you the Governor is an idiot as well as a number of other people I know. The government is trying to become California. We owned a house there for a number of years. Just like California several large cities dictate how rural people should live and believe me they don’t like it. I hunt on a 25,000 acre ranch. The government wants to dam up a creek in the middle of the property to create a lake which would be come public land. This is right in the middle of great elk habitat. Poaching has always been an issue but if they create a lake open to the public it will destroy the hunting in that area. The reason they want to dam it up is so they can release colder water into the creek during warm summer months. So for thousands of years the creek has run just like it is and they want to change this. Here’s another one for you. The state was giving grant money out to improve sage grouse habitat by removing junipers. After they were cut they had to be limbed so that none of the junipers were over 4’ High. The reason for this was because sage grouse only fly 4’ off the ground. I am serious!!
My first tour in Oregon was from 87 - 91. At that time the logging industry was getting killed by the spotty owl issue. My second time there was 04 - 05. The sandy plover was the next environmentalist rage. By where I worked, there were bulldozer's out plowing down sand dunes to flatten the area out to make nesting areas for these birds. It looked ugly what they did to the dunes. I think they also have some kind of newt or salamander craze too. Bend, OR used to be a cozy little mountain town back in the 1980's. The last time I was there (2004) is went down hill from all of the over development, coffee houses, yuppies, Californicators. I didn't hardly recognize it any more....it is a shame. Dope growers and meth houses were prevalent in the coast area. I did get my first elk and mule deer there.
"So if we stick with stereotypes PA is run by dorks in bowling shirts. ;)"
Ahem.....
Pig Doc,
Without question there are a lot of sane, fine people in Orygun.
Unfortunately, there is also a YUGE preponderance of clueless liberals, and they run the state.
OTOH, PA is largely run by the clueless liberals in Fill a Delf E I A.
Paul said it best on another thread, “Citiots”
There is an arrow on the gas gauge of all newer vehicles that points to the side the gas fill is on. I'm sure most of these dolts don't even look at an owner's manual...let alone know what the arrow means. I've had both 56 and 57 Chevys. They used to be great fun at the full service stations. 56 fill was in the left tailight...57 was in the tailfin.
I pumped gas back then as a young kid. I remember the 57 Chevy tailfin and the 58 flat in the bumper. I think I remember the 59 Plymouth had the tailfin deal too. Lots were right behind a tilting license plate.
53 caddy was left tail light.
