I think it's a pretty honest and unbiased assessment of both history and current conditions of US politics. The sad reality is some people thrive on the dysfunctional and divisive climate he describes .

Far too easy for many of us to fall prey to. Sometimes it might be wise to step back from the keyboard, read again what has been written and simply backing out instead of hitting "submit". I can look back and shudder at things I have written, but wisely did not post. It's called "self-editing".
I agree, it's a different media environment today. To that extent, I don't think Trump uses it to his advantage. Do you? It could be a powerful tool for him, if he gave a little thought, and took a little advice, before tweeting every impulsive notion he has.
I think this quote from the above article nailed it:
