Hero to zero? Not zero, but not hero

A few years ago we discussed how a 15 year old kid chased down a kidnapper and helped lead to the rescue of a 5 year old girl.

Unfortunately, his life has not gone so well since. He was recently sentenced for his role in an armed robbery.

He still has value as a human and hopefully this is his only transgression of the law.

"Boggs, ...., made national headlines in 2013 when he and a friend helped locate a missing 5-year-old girl who had been taken and sexually assaulted by now-convicted rapist Harold Leroy Herr.

He was hailed for his efforts and honored on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

A college fund was set up in his name.

Boggs admitted his role in the Dec. 17 robbery at El Coqui Market in June.

Boggs pointed a black handgun at an El Coqui Market employee during the Dec. 17 robbery, going as far as to “rack” the slide on the gun, first assistant district attorney Christopher Larsen said during the June 16 guilty plea."

Had a close friend commit burglary while he was in college. He was and is a good guy. He was going through a rough time figuring himself out and put himself through a spate of stupid. I have also worked with numerous ex-cons who have been salt-of-the-earth types for decades. People can not only overcome but also excel.

i'll say a prayer for the young man.

With all people on a downward spiral, they must want to help themselves before they can be helped. And, a good bit of them must hit rock bottom with their particular situation before they make the changes to help themselves. Let's hope this is his rock bottom.
