You know you have a big bluegill when you can “lip” grab it.

It’s customary that you kiss the first sucker you catch, or at least that is what I told my boys. HA!!

Not a fish but my 2 year old wanted to hold an alligator in Florida last February and I just think she’s adorable.

Another Rainbow from the same area. Both boys put the smack down on rainbow and brookies that week.
Oldest caught this bass on a fly he tied this past spring.
Got invited by a friend to go on a boat based bear hunt for 10 days in Alaska last year. Once there, I decided I had killed enough bears in my life and that the fishing is to good not to enjoy, so I stayed on the boat for 10 days catching 12 different species of fish. This being the biggest. Caught on a giant chunk of beat meat that I was wondering if anything would bite it. Honestly took everything I had to hold this just long enough for the picture.
Green Ling cod (I believe).
I believe this is a quill back.
I surprised the family by taking them on vacation without telling them where we were going. 15 hour drive later, we pulled up to a lake in Ontario with float planes all over it. Ended up spending a week with no electricity or plumbing and not one of us could of had more fun. I used the “vacation” as a way to get up to this cabin to scout where I had already booked my moose hunt. :-). First day was a little rough for my wife, but after that, she fell right in the groove, and when the plane showed up to get us, she was hoping for a few extra days. The boys caught walleye from the dock, just as they do bluegills at home. The pike were enormous too. Both kids came home with Master Angler awards from the Ministry for the size fish they caught. We ate like King’s, and a Queen, the entire week.
For my youngest son’s 8th birthday, he said “I want to go Big Fish fishing”. So I called a couple friends in Florida, flew down and spent the best 3 days a dad could with his son fishing.
The best were the sharks and cobia we caught, but he also caught a tagged Amber Jack that when we reported the tag number on it, he was mailed a package that contained a 2 page print out of that specific fish and a t-shirt.
I never got to do this kind of stuff with my own dad, as he was to busy working. I understand that, and cannot change how I was raised, so I decided that if my boys wanna do something (and it’s legal), we are gonna do it. I gave up drinking, smoking and chasing women YEARS ago, and it’s amazing how much money you save when you have a goal in life and don’t deviate off of it.
Good stuff Mike and Jacob !!!!
Awesome, Mike!
That's how life should be enjoyed.
Great pics and catches, fellas!!

Great thread guys, super jealous. Haven't even bought a fishing license in a few years as all my free time's been spent working on deer camp and bowhunting whenever I can. That's gonna change soon, though. Always loved it. Thanks for the inspiration!
Cool thread! Sister in law caught this nice bow fin in Gull Lake MN. Cool fish and her biggest ever at over 25". Fun to see her face and excitement!
Bowfin is a fish I have never caught, but would like to. I like to catch at least one of each kind.
My youngest txt'd this today of what he caught behind my home in the Des Plaines River, north of Chicago. The noteworthy thing is how the river rebounded after the several dams were removed along the way. The water now flows naturally and is as clear as a mountain stream, when not at flood stage. There are 35" + sized northerns as well as Bass, Channel Cats as well as the usual carp and bulkheads.

Tahquamenon River pike a few miles above the falls.
Now that’s a slab. New world record crappie. 5.46 pounds
Oh my !!!! That think looks like it is half largemouth !!!!!
My best bud caught this nice guy by accident while we were fishing for bluegill this morning. We hammered the gills. Caught 75ish and kept 21.
That crappie was caught about thirty minutes from my house.
It was caught in a farm pond. I don’t think pond fish should go toward records books, but TWRA doesn’t mind it.
Oh well, big crappie for sure!
