Federal judge orders Puerto Rican’s out of motels but of course their is backlash. Just how long do they need to be taken care of and how long do they expect it? Just curious what you guys think? My thoughts are they will expect it forever with no motivation to move on.
Almost 3000 dead and the trump administration had the Count at 64? Talk about a colossal screw up. And let’s be reminded THEY ARE AMERICANS.
I don’t see the government putting US Homeless vets in hotels for free. As far as being Americans didn’t they vote against us being involved with them? I’m not sure where you live but where I am they come here to freeload by claiming nonsense disabilities and dealing drugs while collecting.
Uh, their country is the U.S.A...lol
Once again we have a place, Puerto Rica, run by liberals that pre hurricane Maria was run like a third world country. Infrastructure sucked across the board, just like all socialist countries. US pumped billions of dollars into it but the money was basically stolen to the detriment of the populace. They loved our money but were not interested in US.
THAT brings us to the original post. I'm really to close to the original problem. A bad ass hurricane Maria. In my case Harvey. I know what complete devastation is. To many of my friends experienced it. Not their fault Some are a year later struggling but still trying to get back to some kind of normal
In the cases presented above my opinion based on some experience is to take each one one in a case by case situation Those really trying stay with them. Those not cut them off from the US gravy train
I'd say a year later and still living there, would define not trying. They've had a chance to find employment and pay for their own place. But, the gravy train was too tempting. Now it is time to make them be productive or, let them starve. Life ain't fair. Neither is living off others because you can.
I had 2 tours in PR.....5 years total. I have some good Coastie friends from down there. Our air station was on the NW corner of the island. Great place if you're into surf, sun and fun. Real good time if you're single and don't get stupid with the cheap rum and beer.
That said....the leadership of PR over the years failed to insure their infrastructure could hold up to and respond to a major disaster such as a hurricane. Now hurricanes are a way of life down there....went thru a couple while I was there. Got some good stories. Spent some time without drinking water and power. Where we were at, our water came from mountain lakes via old, antiquated aqua ducts. If there was a mudslide, there goes the aqua ducts. IMO.....the failed leadership over the years owns a large chunk of PR's known problems. The other problems are the nepotism, corruption and unions.
Might take more than year. As RK has said Harvey's destruction is still with us. Every day I see new piles of rubbish where storm damage is being repaired. Good friend finally found a contractor to repair his house, they start work Oct 1st.
What's really stupid is he wasn't allowed to do the repair work himself, had to be an approved licensed contractor.
Thumper that is the difference. Your friend is rebuilding. The people here probably don’t want to leave the handouts and would be happy forever.
