A very tragic, yet weird hunting fatality occurred this weekend to a neighbor of mine at our MO farm.
The gentleman, a Vietnam veteran, was using a propane heater inside his hunting blind Saturday morning, the rifle opener in MO. The heater either exploded or started a fire, killing the owner of land adjacent to ours. He was a local, known by all.
Shocking news, never heard of anything like this. Be careful, hug those you love every day!

Dang, that is sad, I have used a propane heater in my ground blind for many years. I will double check everything this year.

It was cold opening day of missouri rifle season this year......18 by my thermometer. those propane heaters are scary.....I could not even find a Wal-Mart with a propane bottle for sale on Friday. I read about a negligent discharge fatality also this weekend in Missouri. 4 am....a guy killed his hunting buddy. Tragic.

Are these tanks blowing up? We taking about the little quart size propane tanks?

How horrible.....!!! I use a little buddy heater all the time. The only time it makes me nervous is when I use a hose to hook it up to the BBQ grill sized tank. You have to be careful where the hose is at all times so it doesn’t get too close to the heat.

Big Bear, that is what I use, a little Buddy. Have two of them and they keep my ground blind warm. I just use the small bottles in the ground blind.

I use it inside my cabin to supplement my little woodstove. They automatically shut off if they tip over and I have a carbon monoxide detector in the cabin.

Sounds like a very tragic, freak accident.
I would imagine explosions are extremely rare with those little propane bottles, makes me think more along the lines of a quickly spreading fire...so sorry to hear about your friend/ neighbor!
