This pinged my feed today via a fly fishing blog I follow. Pretty cool to see how a simple change in rice farming reg's ended up with unintended, yet positive outcomes for birds, fish, and likely other critters as well.

Will,
Thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I wish more people embraced programs like this, and the concept of being stewards of the land and natural resources in general.

Glad you guys liked it - I thought it was a really cool program, and hopefully, a harbinger of good things to come.

Iowa is the most change state in the 48 for lost of habitat ie: sloughs, wet lands, forrest and top soil. The extensive aggressive ag expansive put a nail in the coffin for upland game and waterfowl. The new combines do not leave any waste of grain in the fields and has effected the waterfowl fly ways along with the loss of wet lands. With the loss of the CRP that was the loss to many areas that carry game and wild life. State and the ag. business must fine a balance to buffer the eco-system for the wildlife and farming practices or it just turns into a waste land that only a very few that is rewarded. I seen Ia. at its best and now at its worst, sad situation. Glad to see Ca. stepping up to the plate, who would thought.
