Not just the BS motto, but a good idea. Just went into AZ DOT to renew my Driver license. Boy was I in for a surprise. No longer can you just use your old DL to identify yourself to get your new one, you must provide them with the following:

1. Acceptable documentation to establish birth.

2. SSAN Verification document.

3. Proof of Residency with current address on document provided.

Looks like AZ is discriminating against black folks again. Except this is being done at the behest of Homeland Security to allow your DL to be a valid ID.

Just tell them u are here illegally and they will bend over backwards to give u a license.

Yes it is the real DL, but that is all they are going to provide.

Just found out that WY does not (yet) have the enhanced drivers license in our preparation to relocating there. Wife and I have had Michigan enhanced license for a number of years...allows travel to Canada, Mexico and Bahamas without having to have a passport. Had to have similar documentation as Terry described when we got initial enhanced license, but automatic renewal thereafter.

If they won't take a hospital certificate of birth where does that leave us that were born at home?

Jeff...right hand does not know what left hand knows and vice versa. Dealing with this long distance at present. Thanks as I have to make some calls again in the next few days.

I had that last time I renewed in Utah. I set up an appointment in a town 30-40 miles outside of SLC to avoid the wait in town. Went there with my current (not expired) DL, my concealed weapons permit, a couple utility bills and they said, "nope, thanks to illegals, that's no longer good enough". I got denied and had to go get my "baby book" from my mom to prove my identity (I brought the whole thing with me, just in case).

I renewed my DL a couple of years ago and there no hassle at all in getting the new, security-updated version.

It's not a hassle as long as you have everything you need to renew. In my case I'd never used my birth certificate for ID in my entire life (that I'm aware of) and subsequently needed to go to my parents basement to find the damn thing to get my 4th or 5th drivers license. I didn't have a passport at the time; I had never been out of the US since passports have been required for travel to Mexico or CA.

Hawaii same thing. Big new PITA to get new license. Coach went in.... drivers license, birth cert., original ss card, utility bills and marriage certificate that was needed to show her change of name. Nope. A no go. Marriage certificate was not "stamped" and certified.

We're 2500 miles from where we were married and where the records are. So we go online and try to find an office where we could get the certified copy. Shazam! Found a county office online where we could download a form, notarize the form, email/fax the form back to them (with your cc number...) and they would send it to you. Cool!

They then call back and inform us they have no record of us being married.... were we sure this was where we were married? Yep, in fact in a church about 2 blocks from your office. A church she says? Yeah. So it was a PUBLIC marriage? Um, well, not "public" as in just anybody could show up, but yes, I guess so.... Oh, that's why. We don't have those records.... we only keep the records of PRIVATE marriages here. huh? WTF is a "private" marriage? Turns out you can get married and not have it show on any public records. Never heard of such a thing, but guess if you're gonna have such a thing.... CA is the place to have it.....

She gives us the link to a totally different county records division/office. While it was the right place and you can download ANOTHER form online, this one sucks because they don't take faxes or email copies..... or credit cards. Have to mail the (pay to have notarized AGAIN of course) form along with a personal check (which they said out of state likely takes 10 working days to clear, read "two weeks") Told em funny, you know it was FAR easier trying to get a PRIVATE marriage copy than the PUBLIC one.... She says that's the way it is. And apparently didn't see the humor in it. On talking with them we found out why we didn't have a "stamped" certificate...... while the marriage was recorded.... the stamp at the time cost an extra $10.... I think she did find some humor in that......=D

Took Coach near a month to renew her drivers license. I'm really looking forward to having to get mine renewed in a few months..... think my issue will be new glasses..... we'll, um, see.....

One of my Uncles tried to get his DL renewed in WI, he had his current DL, Birth Certificate and proof of residency, along with his military ID. He was turned away because there was no embossing on his birth certificate....the same birth certificate that he used to enter the military. He was not happy!

I got mine renewed here in Missouri last year because I had to change some things and it was easy. I checked last night to make sure I have the updated version and I do...Apparently they have been issuing the new licenses for awhile now, but only for renewals and new issues. I guess they are going to issue new ones for everyone this year sometime...I guess, I don't know...

I had go jump through all the hoops year before last when I renewed mine. It was a pain, but they say the next renewal will be simple.....we’ll see.

I have renewed my enhanced version one time. It was pretty painless as I recall. I just needed to bring in a couple bills or pieces of mail confirming my address and I was good to go.

My original point was, it must be racist. It is to ask for any of those things to get your voters ID.

What are those of us to do that only have a P.O. box and no utility bills and such mailed to us? This is total bullshit! I'm sure all the illegals are not required to go through this hassle .

From: Woods Walker

Of course not! They can tell the federal government/the American people to "Go **** yourselves", and not only not get penalized for it, but REWARDED AND PROTECTED by state government to boot!

The longer we let this bullsh*t go on, the worse it will be for us.

From: Buff

I have to say, yes this is a pain in the azz, but isn’t this better than just handing any kind of ID out to anybody whenever? If we want to get a handle on illegals voting, getting benefits they are not supposed to be getting. And I bet everyone one of you (and me included)would be pissed if someone stole your ID. It just seems if we want better security, we are going to have to do a little more for it.

It takes more effort to get a hunting license but both are worth the trouble.

I'm hoping this is a step intended to separate the Citizen-voter-driven from the illegal alien- driver. Who should not be voting! Maybe it is Done this way to allow the non-American his/her ability to drive but restrict them from voting. Which I believe was the intended blurring of that line for that purpose. Or at least an unprotected flaw of the same.

This way they can't argue travel discrimination but will not be able to vote under false pretenses. We step away from the problem. It's Worth it.

WW...there are many (read that elderly) who would stand up to the ugly dictatorship of government control as some of our ancestors did at Lexington and Concord. The need to stand against dictatorial state control has been never greater than it is today. John Locke's essays need to be explained to the socialists who want government control over we who savor freedom from such.
