Newark, NJ Mayor Ras Baraka calls for "free" income............Gee, ya think productivity will decrease?
"During his fifth State of the City address Tuesday night at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Baraka for the first time publicly said the city was exploring a pilot program for universal basic income.
Though he released no details, the program generally provides all residents, regardless of employment, a guaranteed income. Baraka said the city was launching an exploratory taskforce to see if such a program was feasible."
Now instead of being a city of "Dindu Nuffins", they'll be "Don'tdu Nuffins".
Is this mayor REALLY that frickin' stupid?? Does he really think that if you pay people to do nothing then they'll get off their ass and do otherwise??? God help us!
Obviously, "free stuff" won't work. IE: free college. But I wonder what the New Green Socialist has to say ... Would it be against the law to also have private institutions where people pay for a better education?
This idiot going to pay it?
I want to know where the hell in Newark is a money tree forest growing? For those of you who have never seen Newark it is probably the dumpiest city in the northeast.
It's Manhattan's a**hole.
My parents came from Newark, the east side "Iron Bound" industrial section, or what was locally called "Down Neck". That was 90 years ago. At that time that part of Newark was composed mostly of immigrants from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Poland, etc. After WW2 most of them moved out to the suburbs, like my parents did when they had me. It wasn't a bad place back then, today it's a sh*thole.
Do you pay taxes on Free income?
The people who are the source of the "free" sure as hell do!
Awesome, Let's all move to New York!!! FREE MONEY FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me see. Free income. The answer is NO it will not be mathematically self supporting. When you divide a larger number (expenditure) into a smaller number (tax base) the mathematical answer will always be a negative. You must add 0's to the lower number to divide a larger one with a movable negative decimal point. Add ZERO'S and negative. There is your answer. Now that elementary math lesson did not cost a dime nor will you receive an invoice. I would advise your following foray into math would include a calculator, post Texas Instruments era, and un-cuff the wrist and remove the duct tape from the lips of your accountants.

Guaranteed income simply guarantees that less and less people will produce anything of value in exchange for that income.
I hope you know I was kidding...
It's New Jersey, South Farm! Not much difference I know. ;-)
"Do you pay taxes on Free income?"
Would not surprise me if they did collect income tax on it. They already tax SS income if your gross income is "too high"....The politicians don't really understand math very well. Pay someone with tax money and then tax it to get some of that tax money back and then go spend that same tax money again...It just don't make no sense...
It reminds me of a cousin ( a privileged kid) 20 years ago... He said he would just take another credit card out to pay off the last one. I said that can't work forever.
I wonder if he's done spending his parents' money...
I collect stupid stuff. Stuff like a 23 cent check. ( sent by mail)
"...The politicians don't really understand math very well."
I disagree there MT, they understand it VERY well.......
What mine is mine and what's yours is mine too and we get to let you keep what we decide is the "proper" amount. The math formula for this equation is very simple.... 2+2=MINE,
Good point WW...I just assume people are honest...8^)
Do I get a bigger do nothing paycheck if I do more nothing than you?
Every dollar and cent of welfare and free healthcare for those folks should be gone forever if they collect. And tax it just like the rest of the actual working folks get taxed.
The DNC has become one big Carny Vendor, keep throwing your money away to win the prize knowingly it is rig, take fools to make fools.
Is this story from "The Onion"? That would make total sense. In the real world... Nope.
I don't think it's such a stretch to believe it could happen. I mean we have people getting free phones, homes, transportation, food, heat, clothing, social security, health insurance, entry into the country, and college educations..
