Side note: 185# UNI wrestler won the NCAA championship yesterday, first time in 22 yrs, the couch is my wife's cousin on her dad's side. Wrestling was always a big sport in the region. Doesn't get much media attention as it should.

During the mid 60 and early 70s Waterloo area high schools had some will studs that went on to college wrestling.
My little country high school would have several kids that went to state and place every year. The coach made everyone shave their heads that came out and he would slap the heck out of the ones in the locker room for not putting out 100%, he would have been in jail for it now, different time different era.
Ia. St. use to be a power house for wrestling, they are going through a coaching transition along with recruiting. Iowa and Iowas St. use to be a big rival in wrestling, been to several meets and it got rowdy with some close matches, that has been a few years ago.
