Let's see some pictures of our Dad's in a Memorable photo! It does not have to be hunting related. This is one of my Dad in 1949 (after the war) as an instructor at an Archery Camp in Vermont! I owe him a lot!! Thanks Dad!
My dad glassing for elk a couple years ago. Love ya dad!
My Dad is on the right(fought the Japanese in WWII aboard a sub in the South Pacific); my uncle is on the left, fought in Korea.
Dad is gone, died last January at age 93. Miss him a lot and appreciate the hunting heritage he taught me.
This past hunting season. I thought the picture was better quality... Sorry
My favorite of the season.
Dad, me, brother last season. Thanks Dad!
My father and I by his place in Cody Wy. Sure wish i could convince him to try for an elk with a bow
Great picture, Charlie. Here's my dad kicking it old school.
My dad (left) and father in law (right) on a trip to Boca Grande Florida. I've got one on the line but haven't quite got it to the boat yet. We sat on a gigantic school of overgrown redfish for 2 hours with all rods on the boat bent over the whole time. Great times.
Will be seven years ago this October since I lost the greatest person in my life, Dad was 61. Dad taught me how to hunt and caused the fire within me to roam the mountains.
Father's Day is still very tough on me.........
That's my dad shingling a garage he just built. This photo was taken a few years before I was born in the white house you can see behind the garage. It was probably about 1939 or so. My dad hunted as a youngster to feed his family. He got sick in 1950 and died in 1959, but for most of the last 10 years of his life he was too sick to hunt. Thanks Pops for all you did for us and for all you taught us. I am now 10 years older than my dad was when he died. It just doesn't seem possible, but its so.
Happy father's day to all of you. BB
Took this photo of dad last year. I love how the fletching glows against his face.
This picture would be better if it was his elk.
My dad and I have hunted and fished together most of my life. About 10 yrs ago he destroyed his shoulder and arm in a skiing accident. Thinking he would never be able to shoot a bow he took up the crossbow. About 4 yrs ago I told him that I didn't care what it would take to get him back and shooting a compound bow, we we're going to do it. So, I bought him a 50 pound Hoyt and we started working him back in to a "rehab" routine. He was extremely reluctant at first, but sure enough he got his strength back and with enough ibuprofen and determination, he started shooting good groups.
Fast forward to the present, he's been shooting almost everyday for about 3 years and pulling about 59 pounds. Shooting bows and hunting has drawn us very close to each other, especially over the last 5 years. Thanks dad, my favorite hunting partner!
My Dad enjoyed camping more then hunting--He started his business in 1958 as a land clearing contractor---every week or so when I was a young boy he would return home with different animals he would find in the woods as he was clearing land----One time he brought back 4 little baby raccoons--we bottle fed them and they stayed with us until their old age---they eventually lived in a huge hackberry tree behind the house---As a kid I loved candy--when my mother would go shoping on the weekends, I would call my coons in the house to find the candy that she would hide from me during the week--they enjoyed the treats as much as I did--they were pretty good trackers--Dad died in 1981 on a camping trip to Canada---Those sons whose Dads are still living, enjoy and share as much time as you can with them--Happy Father's Day Dad
This is my dad! My hero led me to Jesus Christ and taught me how to HUNT and FISH and many other things! LOVE U DAD!!!
happy fathers day DAD and to many many more. Love ya HUNT
Circa 1950-something in Arizona. Remarkably, you can see my mom's girlish shadow as she shoots with a box camera. These 2 people gave me the outdoors.
My dad, brother and I with a late season doe shot a few years back.
Dad used to be a waterfowl killing machine. Luckily he gave up on the cigarettes not too long after this.
He used to bowhunt a lot also and killed a lot of whitetails with his bow. He hasn't bowhunted in a while now, but I did get him out here last year during the muzzleloader season.
Very cool, best thread I've seen in a while.
A family that hunts together stays together!! Dad with his bear.
If your Dad is gone think about the good times and smile, if your Dad is still here look him in the eye and say Thanks! That's all the gift he needs! Happy Fathers day!
PS: Picture attached is my Dad, my son and me about 10 years ago!
This is Dad around 1960 or 61. He taught me how to hunt and fish when I was just a kid. Sure do miss him.
Me on the right and my Brother learning how to skin a Deer ... my Dad and cousin are doing the work ... early 50's
Love this thread. Here is a photo of my dad Lyle Chauvin who recently turned 75 years a week ago. He is undeniably one of the greatest Cajuns to ever inhabit the marshes of South Louisiana. Dad raised six kids fishing crabs, crawfish, shrimp and trapped nutria, muskrat and alligators. They dont make 'em much tougher. He planted the seed of hunting in my very core.....
The 2 of us around my 1st birthday. I'm still better looking....
The finest man I've ever known.
Arrowstorm
I (like many of you) had a great dad. Left one is in his youth - a few months later he became a veteran of the Pearl Harbor Bombing. Middle is both of us in 1966 (the day I left for the Navy). On right he is in his "lucky" hooded sweatshirt - he wore that thing for years (note the holes) and swore it made the difference!
After a not hunting for the last 10 years due to failing hips, Dad drew a tag and my brother and I joined him on a hunt for mule deer. We spent a week together and had a great time.
I have hunting pictures also but here is my dad teaching my son and daughter how to fish. I am in the background.
Thought I'd bring back the Fathers Day picture posting. How about some more Dad pics??? Happy Fathers Day. Charlie
My dad, who taught me everything when he didnt have to and gave me his name when I was 6 months old. Least I could do was get him to be my sub permitee on my VT. moose hunt and call in his bull for him before age and diabetes gets to be too much. Here he is in VT. in `07 to the bull I called in for him and he dropped at 50 yards with an 30-06. #980 dressed. Wished I remembered the tripod so I could get in the photo with him
My dad with a last day of the season bull. 70 years old this year and we'll be hunting together again. Love ya dad!
This thread just made me call my father in law and have a good 1/2 hour conversation. Thanks to all who posted.
This picture is the last time I was able to hunt with my dad...miss ya dad!
Wow I didnt even realise that this was a yr old thanks for bringing it up I missed it somehow last yr.
Only pic I have on my puter This one of my "little" brother and My dad. I love ya dad !!!!!!! Happy 70th birthday and happy fathers day !!
This is a photo of me and Dad last summer. He took me to S. Africa bowhunting and we had almost as much fun as we are going to have this Fall when we both arrow our Bighorn Rams!
Me and Dad several weeks ago while hunting POW with Blacktail Bob and Lisa.
He called me today and said Son I am kicking my self in the ass right now for not taking you bearhunting when you asked 33 years ago! He said It was beyond a doubt the greatest hunt I have ever had!
Dad didnt kill anything but he sure had a blast!!!
Here is one of me my dad and my second oldest son Tyler about 3-4 years ago!
Here is another great Dad this is a photo of my hunting buddy Dennis Butler (Notice the team Butler shirt we are holding in the previous photo?)
Dennis passed away last March. This is a photo of him his dad A.K. Butler and oldest daughter Reagan, on our lease hunting about 3 years ago.
Dennis had his ashes spread just at the break of the hill right behind where they were standing for this photo.
He said he wanted to watch us all hunt for the bighorn and laugh at all of our mistakes!!!
Last hunt I shared with my dad. He loved waterfowl hunting and I talked him into turkey hunting. Dad doesn't hunt anymore and lives in Arizona. Happy Father's Day Dad!
Dad on his birthday in northern Quebec, waiting on the herd to close the distance so he can fill his 2nd tag of the day!
Dad's Navy picture taken right after WW II ended and he was up for discharge at Bremerton, Washington. He taught me to hunt, fish and carpenter, among many things, but all the pictures of those years are long gone ... as is Dad.
Happy Father's Day, Dad! Thanks for everything.
The Old Sarge
There are so many pictures of my Dad and I that mean so much to me that I could probably crash the Bowsite if I tried to post them all. My Dad truly is my hero. This picture was taken by my little brother years ago after we had hiked many miles to this remote spring on a turkey hunt.
In my best pose, my head is submerged. LOL Dad is beside me as he always is! Love you Dad!!
My dad had not bowhunted in 16 years until 2009. I had moved to Montana the previous year and he drew a Non-res combo tag. This was his very first Mulie two hours into his first night. The Picture below was from last year. He did not draw a deer tag, so I conned him into putting in for antelope. He got drawn, but didn't have the energy to go after them with bow. I had stalked this buck a number of times, and filmed him, but was never able to close the deal. I told my wife that I hoped my dad could get a crack at him. (He had never been antelope hunting.) 45 mins. into opening morning he shot the buck at 350 yds. The night before he was not shooting very well at 300, so I believe it was meant to be. In all the years I've hunted with my dad I've never seen him that visibly excited. He was actually fist pumping wich was very out of norm for him. He got it mounted and still talks about it frequently. Happy Fathers Day! I love you Dad.
Here's the guy who chose to be my Dad when I was 14...the word "Father" never applied to a man better than to him...he has never derided my choices in life...he is wise beyond belief...and I've seriously never seen/heard him loose his temper or self control (something I wish I could say)...even as he would ask me "where in Colorado are you going to be hunting by yourself?" :) I'm sure those solo trips (starting when I was 17) to ajoining states worried him but he always encouraged me...Pops just turned 92 a week ago and as I Hugged him goodbye...I realized that this Bigger than Life Father of mine...may not be here much longer...He was a hunter when growing up in rural Idaho...but it deminished as he aged..He's always loved the Mountains...Happy Fathers Day Pops...As Brad Pasley's song "The Dad he didn't have to be" expresses...I'm glad you did...Thanks and Love You...4finger
For what ever reason all of the hunting pictures of my pops and I are on his computer. I'll have to make sure I go through and back those up on mine and on an external drive. But anyway here's my pops in his favorite lil hunting truck that you couldn't pry the keys from him if you were 10 times his size. He calls me up twice a week just to catch up and tell me about hiking with the dog in the woods and the antler he found etc. and man they are simple but I love those conversations with him. This man has given me everything I love and supported me through everything I've done and everything I plan to do. He means everything to me, Love ya pops happy fathers day!
(PS. We'll be elk hunting together in Sept we both got tags for the first time in years and I can't wait to get out there with him.)
Here's the guy that got me into the woods and waters. Dad is now 83 and is living in Florida and hasn't hunted in probably 10 years. Our conversations are always about hunting and fishing and he says he still hunts thru me and my brother. He still loves to fish and will be spending the summer in our family camp in NH - fishing no doubt. The photo was taken around 1999 and is of a buck Dad got in NH back in the late 60's. My wife and I had it re-mounted and donated to the Musee de la Chasse et de la Nature (museum of the hunt and nature)in Paris.
Here's a photo of Dad the day he took the deer.
Another one of my Dad for this year ... Happy Fathers Day ... Dad
Althought not a kill photo I do believe I have a valid post that everyone will enjoy. This is my uncle on the left and my dad on the right in California a long, long time ago. Both are deceased now Both were very much Indians(no NCAA compliance on bowsite) as you can tell. I'd like to go back in a time machine as a kid and shoot a few arrows with them on this day. FWIW, it's the only thing on my time machine to do list so far! My dad was the best man on earth!
Not the best photo but the best DAD!
This was my last bird hunt with my Dad.
Top Photo; Bullet ( Drahthaar ), myself, Dad, and my hunting partner.
Bottom Photo; Myself and Dad.
Dad and Bullet are both gone now.
I sometimes think that my Dad and Bullet are hunting together at the Great Hunting Ground, and will meet my hunting partner and I when we get there.
What I wouldn't give to flush one more Pheasant with Dad.
My dad passed away when I was 21, but here is a photo of my father in law and I on his first elk hunt (70 years old).
My dad with my last day cow elk...it was the first elk huntin trip my dad and i ever shared...he can't get up these mountains here in Wyoming anymore, but that one trip and the look on his face when i came back to camp with a silly, i just closed the deal on the last day look on my face will forever be etched in my memory...i can't say enough of my dad...he is truly one of my greatest heros.. i waited to blood trail this cow until my dad was with me and when i spotted her, that was the most special hug i have ever shared with my dad...he helped me pack this cow out even though he knew he would be hurtin the next day....that was one of the best days of my life...I love ya dad..
This is my 1st post on Bowsite. Here is a -picture of my dad's 30th bull taken in Oregon last year. He is second from right. On this hunt were two of his three sons (I am on far right) and one grandson. He is the great hunter. He can't move, hearing is gone ect.....but he can still hunt and shoot. I enjoyed reading all of the other tributes to dads. Brought a tear to my eye.
elkmtngear's Link
Just one adventure I shared with Dad.....he is the greatest man I have ever known!
Best of Luck, Jeff
One of my favorites. God Bless our Dads!
Good Call Charlie! One of the best threads on the entire site!!
I wish I could spend more time with my Father, but my career has taken me a long ways from home. Either way, I thank him every day for getting me in the outdoors and taking me bow hunting when I was a child!
Here's me and my dad doing a little combat fishing in Alaska. He's gone now and I miss him!
My Dad and I. This was the very first of countless memories hunting in the woods together. Love you Dad.
It's funny i have so many awesome hunting pictures, but none are on my computer. Here is a picture of my dad when we were out for geese last year. After taking me hunting for so many years, I am really excited to take him to Saskatchewan with his best friend and a couple friends this fall. (Canadian resident hunting) It will just be nice for him not to organize the hunt as he has done for so many years. It will be his first time to Saskatchewan and my second. One thing I can't have too much of - hunts with dad!!
happy fathersday dad... your the best!! love you dad!!!
Happy fathers day to all. Thanks DAD. Heres my dad with a fathers day bear from a few years back.
Dad taught me so much about hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and was a great role model for me. That you Father in Heaven for blessing me with a wonderful earthly father. I love you Dad.
Dad instilled in me the love of hunting and fishing and the value of Service!
Happy Fathers Day!
Dad was out visiting this past week, and I had the privilege to take him out fishing one evening. Had a great time. Love seeing the smile on his face! A man among men in my eyes as well as in many others. It takes a "real" man to fufill the responsibilities of fatherhood. Thanks Dad for being a "real" man!
My dad and my best friend...John Sr. RIP big guy! Happy Fathers day dad! This picture was taken in 1988 at the Tupper Lake Motel after dragging his buck out from about 5 miles in the Adirondacks of NY. His biggest buck and his 2 hunting sons were there to rattle and grunt it in for him. Man do I miss my dad! JJ
My dad with a couple nice smallies on fathers day. His hat is reversed to show the backside in honor of my brother who passed away a last month. We were fishing his favorite smallmouth lake and catching them on his rod!
How did I miss this thread the past couple of years? It is one of the best ever on Bowsite, IMO.
Here is a photo of my dad with his first bowkill in the late 60's. My two older sisters and my older brother are by his side. I was just an infant at the time of this photo.
Here is another of Dad in November of 2008 with a buck my wife arrowed. It was a tough trail and he was a big help in finding this deer. He introduced my siblings and me to the outdoors and this has trickled down to our families as well. Thanks Dad!!
Let's add some more. Happy Fathers Day!
My dad in 1962 enjoying some carp shooting. I miss him dearly. Cancer took him 21 years ago.
Dad Colorado Mule deer trip 1979/80
Dad on a trip out west with me a few years back. He taught me everything I know about hunting and even more importantly about life. I just hope I am half the father to my sons and daughter that he has been to me... Thanks, Dad!
Here is my Dad with a nice bass.
He had me with him in the woods and on the water at age three.
To be north of fifty myself and still enjoying the outdoors with my dad....I am truly blessed.
The photo is Dad's largest whitetail to date... taken just a few months ago, November 3rd, 2012.
Not his biggest, but he's not real picky :)
73 and still climbing stands and draggin' them out.
Thanks Dad!
My father (Curvebow) and I... Happy Father's Day!! Can't wait to be back in Colorado this year hunting elk again :)
Josh
Love this guy! His first Pronghon in WY 2012! Happy Father's Day everyone!
Warren
Dad shot the first buck on my wife and I's farm 2 years ago at the age of 81.
I wasn't sure if I was going to put this on the Truck thread or this one ...
My dad and I with my first big game animal. This was 15 years ago and I've been tagging along with him since I could walk.
I honestly can't think of anyone else I would want to be the grandfather to my children to teach them what I can't. I talk to him and see him several times a week and I'm still learning from him.
Taken of my Dad and I last fall in Upstate NY when I went home for Thanksgiving. Dad was never really "INTO" hunting. I had a unquenchable thirst for it at an early age. Dad was nice enough to drive me all over the place to take me hunting and to archery tournaments even though he didn't shoot. After I left for the Air Force, he must have decided that he missed me or something and started hunting on his own. Now, we hunt together every time I go home and he's hunting all seasons now. I owe him my start, it wasn't his passion, but he got into it for me. Love you Dad.
Please no comments about the shot, the Buck was crippled from an arrow and wouldn't get out of his bed. Only head was visible through glass, placement was purposeful, maybe an inch low. Instant death.
Let's add some more "Dad" pics!
My dad is 82 now. He doesn't hunt much but I can always seem to talk him into going at least 2 or three times a year.
Lost my dad on Father's Day in 1999. He was an ammunition stacker in the Navy at Hawthorne Nevada during WWII. Strongest man I ever knew and the best shot I ever knew with a 22. rifle..For some reason my eyes have been misty all day, today.
The best hunting partner I will ever have, thanks Dad.
This thread is awesome. The old pictures are the coolest. How did I miss this in the past.
This is one of my most treasured pictures of my dad it is him with the ram he shot in 1977. I was only 8 and too young to tag along but can still remember him coming home with this full curl beauty. He died from cancer 12 years later. The man will always be my hunting partner and hero.
Miss you dad. Happy fathers day
Sorry folks....but I have the best father in the world!! ;). He taught me everything I know, and I don't take a moment for granted. Thanks, Dad....and Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there.
My dad died in 1966 when I was 11 years old. I would give ANYTHING to have been able to spend more time on earth with him. Even in that short time he instilled the love of the outdoors to me. See you on the tundra. Rory
My father and i in Kansas in 2013.
My dad and I about 1968. He has been gone for 13 years
This is a picture of my dad and my daughter on her first turkey hunt. He did a cart wheel after she squeezed the trigger and the bird dropped. It took three generations to take down this double beard.
My dad is my hero. He has not only taught me how to be a woodsman but most importantly a great father, a Christian, and a hard worker. There are pictures of me in the bottom of a flat boat, in a baby crib, with a life jacket tied around me. Needless to say he started me off at a young age. Countless memories have been made and many more to come.
Love ya Pop!
Here is a pic of Dad & I on the 1st day of spring turkey this year. My interest in hunting didn't start until I was a teenager by a family friend who did a lot of hunting, but it got him started too and we've been hunting together ever since.
Awesome thread. Here's mine.
My dad passed away just over a year ago. Bowhunting has helped me retain my sanity since then.
My 6 year old daughter drew me in a tent with an arrow by a mountain at school. Not the same as above pics but she gave it to me for Father's Day. I'm taking her out with a bob gun this weekend I'm more excited than she is!!!
The caption reads" If my dad could get 5 minutes alone to do anything he wants he would.......she wrote Go Huntin
It's time again!
Make Peace and remember!
Happy Father's Day to the man who taught me how to be a man
Happy Father's Day to the man that introduced me to the outdoors. He's been my best hunting / fishing buddy since I could walk. From Caribou on the tundra, Pronghorn out west, backcountry fishing in the Florida Keys and Whitetail and Turkey hunting here at home in Ohio, my Dad has been at my side. I hope and pray that I can teach my two sons to be the kind of man that you are. You are my hero. Love you Pop.
My Dads thing was fishing, when I told him we were going to Alaska to do some salmon and halibut fishing he was pretty excited, he never thought in a million years he would get to fish Alaska, what a trip we had and one we both will always remember!
Great thread!!
Great pictures ! Happy fathers day to all dads.
Being a dad is the best thing ever!
Happy Fathers Day to the man who taught me patients, tolerance, and above all a love of Family and the outdoors.
My dad last year with his muzzleloader kill he got on his buddies farm!
Happy Father's day Buci313
Cool thread.
My family was never much for picture-taking, but here's one of my Dad & me, with my mom and sister on the left, in the late summer of 1962. In the years to follow, my Dad would introduce me to shooting with a BB gun, then bought me a single shot .22. By the age of about 10 he had me out hunting for the only game we had access to in southern Indiana in the 1960's, which was squirrels & rabbits. And we also did a whole bunch of fishing.
My Dad's outdoor skills arose from the necessity of a very meager rural lifestyle in the 1950s, after losing his own father when my Dad was only 8 years old. That left my grandmother to raise him & 7 siblings on her own. They ate a lot of small game & fish for a lot of years. At 74, my Dad no longer hunts or fishes, but still enjoys hearing about all of my adventures. Thanks Dad, you're one of the good ones.
Happy Father's Day. Pic was last year
My dad im guessing around 1980-+, before I was thought of. He passed August of 2004, after battling type 1 diabetes since childhood. His passion for hunting remains strong in his kids and grandkids. I wish my kids could have known him.
This is a great thread. My dad was not a hunter but loved to fish. He introduced me to fishing and I got the hunting bug from my grandfather.
Ermine,
You are a spitting image of your dad. I am sure he was a real killer too.
Well, I just spent the last 30 minutes going from tears in my eyes to smiles and back again about 30 times:)
Man 'O man what a great thread!
This is what life is all about!
Mark
My present to him on his retirement was a great mule deer hunt back in 1995. He came down with cancer a few months later, despite a healthy lifestyle.
He made a heck of a shot on this buck, probably the best of his life.
Outdoor Life let me write about it last fall.
The main thing he taught me was to appreciate my kids, and to put them first in my life.
He actually developed much of his love of the outdoors from me. :-)
my dad split never to return when I was 7. This man Jack, member of the local archery club took me under his wing when I was 13. he took me Bowhunting Deer my 1st time ever & saw that I had transportation to shoots, archery events & functions & included me into his family of several children. He was my mentor & substitute Dad that made me the hunter/person I am today. He is now passed but never will he be forgotten
It's a little late but here is a picture of my dads first harvest and my first deer with a bow. Opening day of deer gun season 2004 I believe.
My dad with a nice bull he killed back in 2008. Thanks for giving me the gift of archery dad, and for everything else you've done for me over the years! I hope I can be as good to my kids!
Sharpies in Big Sky Country.
Great pics everyone! Here's my father when he was young in the US Navy in the Korean War... Miss you dad!!! Happy Father's Day!
My dad with his biggest in 2010. Happy Father's Day!
Dad's first whitetail in 22 years, taken a month after my mom passed away this past year.
This is my hero. My dad, my hunting buddy for life. Love him to death!!!!!
Three generations at the Mom and Dad's place in Idaho.
Not my dad but my grand dad is on the right. Hes the man that taught me to hunt.
My dad with a doe he got last year.
As I get older I love the older pictures the most. Here is my dad with my brothers and myself. I still have another brother who wasn't in the picture yet. (literally)
I'm the little guy in the middle with all the big walleye Ha!
My dads best Mule Deer last year in WY.
He lost his house to a fire in January... Lots of memories lost. He's handled it pretty well with it... He's content with the fact that we've got to more memories to make.
Happy Father's Day to all!!
Warren.
What a great thread. Happy Father's Day to All. Enjoy. Hunt
Here's my Dad with a nice bird from this spring. Thanks again for starting the fire so ago. Hunt
You can't choose your parents but if I could I wouldn't change a thing...thanks Dad!
Always a great thread Charlie!
Cherish those photos my brothers, we lost all the family photos years ago, he is only in my memories now.
This is my Dad, George J. Heatwole and me the morning I shot my Desert Bighorn December 1, 2010. He was a hero to this Nation and one of the toughest Marines that ever walked the earth. I thank God every day that my Dad taught me how to hunt and fish. My love for the outdoors led me to our Heavenly Father. Praise God for that! He grew up in an orphanage in the Bronx so what we learned, we learned the hard way through trial and error and good old hard work.
My Dad passed away on June 24th 2015 of complications from brain and lung cancer. I'd give just about anything to go fishing with the old man one more time. I am so glad I shot my sheep that day because he was only able to hang in camp for one day. What a blessing that day was.
My Dad, my mentor, my best friend! This will be my second Father's Day without him. I miss him so much! For all you who still have your Dad, cherish every second together!
My first elk in Colorado. Was great to have my dad there, as he was for most of my firsts in hunting
My Dad and I on his second Colorado Moose...One bull and one cow...He is 88 here was 82 on the Bull...I was able be be with him on both the DIY hunts...both center punch shots
Above was the last buck Dad took. We lost him Jun 21st, 1996. Thanks for everything Dad.
Great thread Charlie and awesome photos. My dad was an avid fisherman & waterfowler. Lots of memories of the times we spent together. We were fishing together the day this photo was taken and I can still remember him yelling "get the net, get the net".
My dad first put the love of hunting and fishing in my older brother and me. He hasn't hunted in a long time but still loves to fish. He even went noodling for the first time a few weeks ago at the age of 68.
Last fall in Northern MI. Made some more memories. I love you Dad.
Here is one of my Dad. He passed away five years ago today on Fathers Day, luckily I was able to be with him when he passed.
My dad with a free roaming aoudad ram that he stalked to 7 yards. Thanks for being a great role model and teacher in hunting and in life and for inspiring me to be a better hunter and person. Happy Fathers Day!
My dad before I was around. He taught me more than how to hunt.
Great thread! Miss him everyday. Hope him & Fred are enjoying some campfires.
I've been bringing this thread back since 2010!
Great Thread! My dad sparked the passion at a young age. Once I moved out west I couldn't describe how excited I was being able to take him on what he considered a once in a lifetime hunt! I'm fortunate that we get together every year now for a new adventure.
Always great to revisit this thread! Having a good father in your life is truly a gift from God! I couldn't have asked for a better one, plus they live close so I still get to spend a lot of time with him as well as Mom. Both are in their 80s and still pretty healthy and active.
Dad spotting for elk
Dad spotting for elk
Dad passed away in February. He was a sportsman till the very end. My brother and I drew elk tags this year for the Missouri breaks we hope to make dad proud.
My dad in Canada last week. Caught this behemoth northern while jogging for walleyes; No steel leader, on 6 lb. line. We've been hunting and fishing partners for 35 years.
My dad doing what he truely loves. Catching bass.
My dad, he's a golfer not a hunter. He's dying now of cancer.
Spent the 1st part of Fathers day with my son & one of my G-sons at a 3-D shoot then onto another G-sons ball tournament where they won both of their games & he hit an over the fence home run & then split a breakfast skillet with my wife b/4 getting home. It's been a full day for this old man. My Mentor & substitute Dad (Jack) now passed. Thank you. Son (a dad too) on the left & G-son on the right.

Dad and I on his first "Guided" hunt!
My dad and my son last week, with my son's water buck.
My first deer hunt w my Dad 1964. The fire was lit. I am the one in the middle. Buried my Father this past February. Thanks Dad !
Claude Charles Altizer Navy diver. This was a Pearl Habor a couple of days before they were hit. He was training on placement of new magnetic mines. A few days later he was recovery/wreckage diving. He said tapping always haunted him. My hero. I miss him. I sure wish my Gabriel had known him.
Dad just before he passed. Loved trout fishing.
Dad's last trip to Colorado. Can't thank him enough for being a wonderful father and mentor.
This was my dads last hunting trip. He was 46 in the picture in Utah. Less than a year latter he would be feeling the affects of cancer. A year latter they would finally diagnose him with Nonhodgekins lymphoma. He died at age 48. He took my brother and I hunting and fishing when he could. It's amazing that in just 5 years(5-10) that he put an insatiable desire of the outdoors in me. That kept me out of trouble growing up after he died.

Once Again I bring this thread back as it is timely each and every year.
I’ve been blessed with a great Mom and Dad . Dad gave me great basic understanding of hunting and fishing that has served me well .
Always great to go back and revisit these pics. Thanks for bringing it up again, Charlie! Some bittersweet pics as well, such as Kelly Harris’s posts. RIP, Kelly.
Cutting firewood this past winter. He takes longer and more frequent breaks, but still gets the job done. Love you Dad!
My dads last deer Hunt in Utah with good friends And brothers in law. A year later at 48 he would be gone from cancer. Bought me my first hickory long bow when I was 8. I always looked forward to the day when I could afford at Nice recurve from the Heters catalog. Now at 68 I miss him more than ever because I realize how much life we missed out on. He would have been so excited to hear about my first buck and my first elk. So much I wish I could have shared with him. He did put the love of hunting and fishing in me and my brother. Something we still try and do together.

My mom gave me an old picture of my dad and grandpa that I never knew existed about 10 years ago. I keep it on my desk, it's one of my favorites. We came up with the idea to do something similar with my son and I and frame the two side by side. Pretty neat seeing 4 generations together.
Grandpa died in 1982, he was 64. Way too early and I wish I could have known him better, I was only 6 when he died. Dad is 75 and we still enjoy a deer and turkey hunt together every year.
Fathers are awesome and I have my kids to thank for making me a better person.
Memorable hunt for this deer. I spotted a doe standing in CRP field. Caught a flicker from the sun and said to my Dad, “ see that doe standing there?” He says yea yea.

Pic of my Dad "front" in the 30's crossing Great Lakes Wilderness Area.
I didn’t get into deer hunting until my Dad started aging . We did however spent many an hour together raising and training our field trial beagles . Rabbit hunted but mainly time afield training our beagles . Lost him 9 years ago at almost 87. He was my best friend . Miss him so much .
My all time favorite hunting picture since the one I posted a couple years ago disappeared. My dad is on the left along with the rest of my hunting crew. Nichole killed her biggest buck and Half Pint killed the doe he was with. My dad and I got to shovel snow :) Hopefully we have a lot more years ahead of us!
Three generations- the Greatest Generation is in the middle. Awesome leader of our family - B29 mechanic WWII - gone since 2013. Taught me to hunt & fish & to be a dad.
My dad was a rifle instructor in the US Army and one hell of a shot. I miss him.
Dad's pilot training photo (they learned flying in open cockpit Ryans). He went on to become an instructor pilot at 22, then was en route to Japan with a B-29 wing when they surrendered ...

My dad was a B-17 pilot during WWII (though he had wanted to be a P-38 fighter pilot). Loved flying his entire life. Part of the Greatest Generation (not many left) ...
Dad and I on our last Quebec Caribou hunt (2017). This was our 4th caribou hunt together. Best times of my life. This was my favorite pic from that last trip. Just the 2 of us chilling outside our cabin. Pretty sure we werent even talking, just taking everything in. He's riding with me to Alberta this fall for my moose hunt, Next fall we live out his dream of a giant Alberta Mule deer. After that...who knows, I'll talk him into something.
Dad in 1967 with his best South Jersey Pinelands buck. He was proud of it. His buddy stole and hid it in the barn down the road. He about lost it. And always the life of the party. He died shortly after that photo. Thanks Pop for always taking me hunting and fishing.
My old man is 68, he slept in the morning I killed this elk, he was getting tired, i worked the old guy pretty hard that day getting that elk out
Carcus: I’m sure he thoroughly enjoyed helping that day! Special days for sure!
Happy Father's day pops! This man introduced me to the outdoors 33 years ago. Even after all these years he's still the one guy I can count on for anything, including keeping me company on my wilderness hunts when no one else will! Can't wait to see him leave the trail head with the pack string this September!
My dad with a buck from late las fall.
My dad and I on Lake of The Woods MN October 2017. Good times!
Happy Father's Day, dad! He taught me all I know, in the woods, and outside of them too. Taught me to respect all wildlife, don't shoot what you aren't going to eat, and that any animal God let's you take, is a trophy. He's my father, my hunting buddy, and my best friend. Thank you, dad.
My Dad is the one in the bow.
My dad and I in 1953. He was a WWII carrier fighter pilot and taught me everything about life and the outdoors. We lost him way to early in 1974 and I've tried to follow his footsteps raising my own son. The next picture is my son and I with his first big trout on a fly rod a few years ago
Still at it today. Both his knees are shot and he knows he probably wouldn't survive post surgical complications so I drive up close and he finally started using a cane. He's 86 now and I know my time with him is short.
Not the best picture, but it was the first year we hunted together since I was very young. I will remember it forever, my brother took a 12 pointer and I took a solid doe. I never seen a bigger smile on the ol' mans face....
