Let's see some pictures of our Dad's in a Memorable photo! It does not have to be hunting related. This is one of my Dad in 1949 (after the war) as an instructor at an Archery Camp in Vermont! I owe him a lot!! Thanks Dad!

My Dad is on the right(fought the Japanese in WWII aboard a sub in the South Pacific); my uncle is on the left, fought in Korea.
Dad is gone, died last January at age 93. Miss him a lot and appreciate the hunting heritage he taught me.

My dad (left) and father in law (right) on a trip to Boca Grande Florida. I've got one on the line but haven't quite got it to the boat yet. We sat on a gigantic school of overgrown redfish for 2 hours with all rods on the boat bent over the whole time. Great times.

Will be seven years ago this October since I lost the greatest person in my life, Dad was 61. Dad taught me how to hunt and caused the fire within me to roam the mountains.
Father's Day is still very tough on me.........

That's my dad shingling a garage he just built. This photo was taken a few years before I was born in the white house you can see behind the garage. It was probably about 1939 or so. My dad hunted as a youngster to feed his family. He got sick in 1950 and died in 1959, but for most of the last 10 years of his life he was too sick to hunt. Thanks Pops for all you did for us and for all you taught us. I am now 10 years older than my dad was when he died. It just doesn't seem possible, but its so.

My dad and I have hunted and fished together most of my life. About 10 yrs ago he destroyed his shoulder and arm in a skiing accident. Thinking he would never be able to shoot a bow he took up the crossbow. About 4 yrs ago I told him that I didn't care what it would take to get him back and shooting a compound bow, we we're going to do it. So, I bought him a 50 pound Hoyt and we started working him back in to a "rehab" routine. He was extremely reluctant at first, but sure enough he got his strength back and with enough ibuprofen and determination, he started shooting good groups.
Fast forward to the present, he's been shooting almost everyday for about 3 years and pulling about 59 pounds. Shooting bows and hunting has drawn us very close to each other, especially over the last 5 years. Thanks dad, my favorite hunting partner!

My Dad enjoyed camping more then hunting--He started his business in 1958 as a land clearing contractor---every week or so when I was a young boy he would return home with different animals he would find in the woods as he was clearing land----One time he brought back 4 little baby raccoons--we bottle fed them and they stayed with us until their old age---they eventually lived in a huge hackberry tree behind the house---As a kid I loved candy--when my mother would go shoping on the weekends, I would call my coons in the house to find the candy that she would hide from me during the week--they enjoyed the treats as much as I did--they were pretty good trackers--Dad died in 1981 on a camping trip to Canada---Those sons whose Dads are still living, enjoy and share as much time as you can with them--Happy Father's Day Dad

He used to bowhunt a lot also and killed a lot of whitetails with his bow. He hasn't bowhunted in a while now, but I did get him out here last year during the muzzleloader season.

Love this thread. Here is a photo of my dad Lyle Chauvin who recently turned 75 years a week ago. He is undeniably one of the greatest Cajuns to ever inhabit the marshes of South Louisiana. Dad raised six kids fishing crabs, crawfish, shrimp and trapped nutria, muskrat and alligators. They dont make 'em much tougher. He planted the seed of hunting in my very core.....

I (like many of you) had a great dad. Left one is in his youth - a few months later he became a veteran of the Pearl Harbor Bombing. Middle is both of us in 1966 (the day I left for the Navy). On right he is in his "lucky" hooded sweatshirt - he wore that thing for years (note the holes) and swore it made the difference!

My dad, who taught me everything when he didnt have to and gave me his name when I was 6 months old. Least I could do was get him to be my sub permitee on my VT. moose hunt and call in his bull for him before age and diabetes gets to be too much. Here he is in VT. in `07 to the bull I called in for him and he dropped at 50 yards with an 30-06. #980 dressed. Wished I remembered the tripod so I could get in the photo with him

Here is another great Dad this is a photo of my hunting buddy Dennis Butler (Notice the team Butler shirt we are holding in the previous photo?)
Dennis passed away last March. This is a photo of him his dad A.K. Butler and oldest daughter Reagan, on our lease hunting about 3 years ago.
Dennis had his ashes spread just at the break of the hill right behind where they were standing for this photo.
He said he wanted to watch us all hunt for the bighorn and laugh at all of our mistakes!!!

Dad's Navy picture taken right after WW II ended and he was up for discharge at Bremerton, Washington. He taught me to hunt, fish and carpenter, among many things, but all the pictures of those years are long gone ... as is Dad.

There are so many pictures of my Dad and I that mean so much to me that I could probably crash the Bowsite if I tried to post them all. My Dad truly is my hero. This picture was taken by my little brother years ago after we had hiked many miles to this remote spring on a turkey hunt.

My dad had not bowhunted in 16 years until 2009. I had moved to Montana the previous year and he drew a Non-res combo tag. This was his very first Mulie two hours into his first night. The Picture below was from last year. He did not draw a deer tag, so I conned him into putting in for antelope. He got drawn, but didn't have the energy to go after them with bow. I had stalked this buck a number of times, and filmed him, but was never able to close the deal. I told my wife that I hoped my dad could get a crack at him. (He had never been antelope hunting.) 45 mins. into opening morning he shot the buck at 350 yds. The night before he was not shooting very well at 300, so I believe it was meant to be. In all the years I've hunted with my dad I've never seen him that visibly excited. He was actually fist pumping wich was very out of norm for him. He got it mounted and still talks about it frequently. Happy Fathers Day! I love you Dad.

Here's the guy who chose to be my Dad when I was 14...the word "Father" never applied to a man better than to him...he has never derided my choices in life...he is wise beyond belief...and I've seriously never seen/heard him loose his temper or self control (something I wish I could say)...even as he would ask me "where in Colorado are you going to be hunting by yourself?" :) I'm sure those solo trips (starting when I was 17) to ajoining states worried him but he always encouraged me...Pops just turned 92 a week ago and as I Hugged him goodbye...I realized that this Bigger than Life Father of mine...may not be here much longer...He was a hunter when growing up in rural Idaho...but it deminished as he aged..He's always loved the Mountains...Happy Fathers Day Pops...As Brad Pasley's song "The Dad he didn't have to be" expresses...I'm glad you did...Thanks and Love You...4finger

For what ever reason all of the hunting pictures of my pops and I are on his computer. I'll have to make sure I go through and back those up on mine and on an external drive. But anyway here's my pops in his favorite lil hunting truck that you couldn't pry the keys from him if you were 10 times his size. He calls me up twice a week just to catch up and tell me about hiking with the dog in the woods and the antler he found etc. and man they are simple but I love those conversations with him. This man has given me everything I love and supported me through everything I've done and everything I plan to do. He means everything to me, Love ya pops happy fathers day!
(PS. We'll be elk hunting together in Sept we both got tags for the first time in years and I can't wait to get out there with him.)

Here's the guy that got me into the woods and waters. Dad is now 83 and is living in Florida and hasn't hunted in probably 10 years. Our conversations are always about hunting and fishing and he says he still hunts thru me and my brother. He still loves to fish and will be spending the summer in our family camp in NH - fishing no doubt. The photo was taken around 1999 and is of a buck Dad got in NH back in the late 60's. My wife and I had it re-mounted and donated to the Musee de la Chasse et de la Nature (museum of the hunt and nature)in Paris.

Althought not a kill photo I do believe I have a valid post that everyone will enjoy. This is my uncle on the left and my dad on the right in California a long, long time ago. Both are deceased now Both were very much Indians(no NCAA compliance on bowsite) as you can tell. I'd like to go back in a time machine as a kid and shoot a few arrows with them on this day. FWIW, it's the only thing on my time machine to do list so far! My dad was the best man on earth!

I sometimes think that my Dad and Bullet are hunting together at the Great Hunting Ground, and will meet my hunting partner and I when we get there.

My dad with my last day cow elk...it was the first elk huntin trip my dad and i ever shared...he can't get up these mountains here in Wyoming anymore, but that one trip and the look on his face when i came back to camp with a silly, i just closed the deal on the last day look on my face will forever be etched in my memory...i can't say enough of my dad...he is truly one of my greatest heros.. i waited to blood trail this cow until my dad was with me and when i spotted her, that was the most special hug i have ever shared with my dad...he helped me pack this cow out even though he knew he would be hurtin the next day....that was one of the best days of my life...I love ya dad..

This is my 1st post on Bowsite. Here is a -picture of my dad's 30th bull taken in Oregon last year. He is second from right. On this hunt were two of his three sons (I am on far right) and one grandson. He is the great hunter. He can't move, hearing is gone ect.....but he can still hunt and shoot. I enjoyed reading all of the other tributes to dads. Brought a tear to my eye.

It's funny i have so many awesome hunting pictures, but none are on my computer. Here is a picture of my dad when we were out for geese last year. After taking me hunting for so many years, I am really excited to take him to Saskatchewan with his best friend and a couple friends this fall. (Canadian resident hunting) It will just be nice for him not to organize the hunt as he has done for so many years. It will be his first time to Saskatchewan and my second. One thing I can't have too much of - hunts with dad!!

Here is another of Dad in November of 2008 with a buck my wife arrowed. It was a tough trail and he was a big help in finding this deer. He introduced my siblings and me to the outdoors and this has trickled down to our families as well. Thanks Dad!!

My dad and I with my first big game animal. This was 15 years ago and I've been tagging along with him since I could walk.
I honestly can't think of anyone else I would want to be the grandfather to my children to teach them what I can't. I talk to him and see him several times a week and I'm still learning from him.

Taken of my Dad and I last fall in Upstate NY when I went home for Thanksgiving. Dad was never really "INTO" hunting. I had a unquenchable thirst for it at an early age. Dad was nice enough to drive me all over the place to take me hunting and to archery tournaments even though he didn't shoot. After I left for the Air Force, he must have decided that he missed me or something and started hunting on his own. Now, we hunt together every time I go home and he's hunting all seasons now. I owe him my start, it wasn't his passion, but he got into it for me. Love you Dad.
Please no comments about the shot, the Buck was crippled from an arrow and wouldn't get out of his bed. Only head was visible through glass, placement was purposeful, maybe an inch low. Instant death.

Lost my dad on Father's Day in 1999. He was an ammunition stacker in the Navy at Hawthorne Nevada during WWII. Strongest man I ever knew and the best shot I ever knew with a 22. rifle..For some reason my eyes have been misty all day, today.

This is one of my most treasured pictures of my dad it is him with the ram he shot in 1977. I was only 8 and too young to tag along but can still remember him coming home with this full curl beauty. He died from cancer 12 years later. The man will always be my hunting partner and hero.

This is a picture of my dad and my daughter on her first turkey hunt. He did a cart wheel after she squeezed the trigger and the bird dropped. It took three generations to take down this double beard.
My dad is my hero. He has not only taught me how to be a woodsman but most importantly a great father, a Christian, and a hard worker. There are pictures of me in the bottom of a flat boat, in a baby crib, with a life jacket tied around me. Needless to say he started me off at a young age. Countless memories have been made and many more to come.

My family was never much for picture-taking, but here's one of my Dad & me, with my mom and sister on the left, in the late summer of 1962. In the years to follow, my Dad would introduce me to shooting with a BB gun, then bought me a single shot .22. By the age of about 10 he had me out hunting for the only game we had access to in southern Indiana in the 1960's, which was squirrels & rabbits. And we also did a whole bunch of fishing.
My Dad's outdoor skills arose from the necessity of a very meager rural lifestyle in the 1950s, after losing his own father when my Dad was only 8 years old. That left my grandmother to raise him & 7 siblings on her own. They ate a lot of small game & fish for a lot of years. At 74, my Dad no longer hunts or fishes, but still enjoys hearing about all of my adventures. Thanks Dad, you're one of the good ones.

My dad im guessing around 1980-+, before I was thought of. He passed August of 2004, after battling type 1 diabetes since childhood. His passion for hunting remains strong in his kids and grandkids. I wish my kids could have known him.

This is a great thread. My dad was not a hunter but loved to fish. He introduced me to fishing and I got the hunting bug from my grandfather.

My present to him on his retirement was a great mule deer hunt back in 1995. He came down with cancer a few months later, despite a healthy lifestyle.
He made a heck of a shot on this buck, probably the best of his life.
Outdoor Life let me write about it last fall.
The main thing he taught me was to appreciate my kids, and to put them first in my life.
He actually developed much of his love of the outdoors from me. :-)

my dad split never to return when I was 7. This man Jack, member of the local archery club took me under his wing when I was 13. he took me Bowhunting Deer my 1st time ever & saw that I had transportation to shoots, archery events & functions & included me into his family of several children. He was my mentor & substitute Dad that made me the hunter/person I am today. He is now passed but never will he be forgotten

My dads best Mule Deer last year in WY.
He lost his house to a fire in January... Lots of memories lost. He's handled it pretty well with it... He's content with the fact that we've got to more memories to make.

This is my Dad, George J. Heatwole and me the morning I shot my Desert Bighorn December 1, 2010. He was a hero to this Nation and one of the toughest Marines that ever walked the earth. I thank God every day that my Dad taught me how to hunt and fish. My love for the outdoors led me to our Heavenly Father. Praise God for that! He grew up in an orphanage in the Bronx so what we learned, we learned the hard way through trial and error and good old hard work.
My Dad passed away on June 24th 2015 of complications from brain and lung cancer. I'd give just about anything to go fishing with the old man one more time. I am so glad I shot my sheep that day because he was only able to hang in camp for one day. What a blessing that day was.

Great Thread! My dad sparked the passion at a young age. Once I moved out west I couldn't describe how excited I was being able to take him on what he considered a once in a lifetime hunt! I'm fortunate that we get together every year now for a new adventure.

Always great to revisit this thread! Having a good father in your life is truly a gift from God! I couldn't have asked for a better one, plus they live close so I still get to spend a lot of time with him as well as Mom. Both are in their 80s and still pretty healthy and active.

Claude Charles Altizer Navy diver. This was a Pearl Habor a couple of days before they were hit. He was training on placement of new magnetic mines. A few days later he was recovery/wreckage diving. He said tapping always haunted him. My hero. I miss him. I sure wish my Gabriel had known him.

This was my dads last hunting trip. He was 46 in the picture in Utah. Less than a year latter he would be feeling the affects of cancer. A year latter they would finally diagnose him with Nonhodgekins lymphoma. He died at age 48. He took my brother and I hunting and fishing when he could. It's amazing that in just 5 years(5-10) that he put an insatiable desire of the outdoors in me. That kept me out of trouble growing up after he died.

My dads last deer Hunt in Utah with good friends And brothers in law. A year later at 48 he would be gone from cancer. Bought me my first hickory long bow when I was 8. I always looked forward to the day when I could afford at Nice recurve from the Heters catalog. Now at 68 I miss him more than ever because I realize how much life we missed out on. He would have been so excited to hear about my first buck and my first elk. So much I wish I could have shared with him. He did put the love of hunting and fishing in me and my brother. Something we still try and do together.

My mom gave me an old picture of my dad and grandpa that I never knew existed about 10 years ago. I keep it on my desk, it's one of my favorites. We came up with the idea to do something similar with my son and I and frame the two side by side. Pretty neat seeing 4 generations together.
Grandpa died in 1982, he was 64. Way too early and I wish I could have known him better, I was only 6 when he died. Dad is 75 and we still enjoy a deer and turkey hunt together every year.
Fathers are awesome and I have my kids to thank for making me a better person.

I didn’t get into deer hunting until my Dad started aging . We did however spent many an hour together raising and training our field trial beagles . Rabbit hunted but mainly time afield training our beagles . Lost him 9 years ago at almost 87. He was my best friend . Miss him so much .

Still at it today. Both his knees are shot and he knows he probably wouldn't survive post surgical complications so I drive up close and he finally started using a cane. He's 86 now and I know my time with him is short.
