Last weekend Kelly had a terrible accident. He hit bottom after diving into a pool. He was resuscitated after basically drowning and stopped breathing. He is now on a ventilator with pneumonia in both lungs. He has a fractured C2 and some brain swelling but is responding to commands although unable to speak because of the ventilator. As many of you know his wife Michele has already fought her share of battles. So please keep both of them in your thoughts and prayers.

Hey guys, I was going to post on this but was asked not to until things leveled out, but seeing as it is out there... I talked to Kelly's Dad yesterday and he was there with him. He said that Kelly's color is good as are all his vitals. He is still sedated because he still has a breathing tube in and they are really hard to deal with if you are conscious. The brain swelling has gone down considerably and the fever that he had the first day has normalized. It was quite high. Scary high. Anyhow, right now the biggest concern is the pneumonia that happened when Kelly aspirated the pool water and stuff. Kelly is a fighter and with his inner strength, the strength of his family and your prayers he may make a complete recovery, but it may take some time. This whole thing came as a shock and it kills me. Please keep Kelly and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Peace, Jay

Hello friends!! We know everyone is concerned about Kelly and wondering about any updates on his condition. Yesterday the family was given some very heavy news. They were informed that Kelly is paralyzed from the neck down and has had no improvements in the condition of his lungs. Please continue to keep the family in your prayers as the have a very difficult journey ahead of them.

I spoke with Kelly Sunday, we were making plans for this Fall, including a Football game and whitetail hunting. We also were making plans for future hunts, he put some off to make sure he had enough retirement for his family. Something I lack the discipline to do. I talked to Kelly often over the years, often it was to make peace between him an Nick Muche LOL... Both good people BTW. I hunted with Kelly in 2016, had a great time in unbearably hot early November weather, probably should have shot that one big buck that walked by me first morning but I passed. Just figured I had at least 20 more years to get in some more hunts with him... My sadness cannot be explained. Just keep thinking about it, and even more sadly, in my 54 years, just how many times I have heard of shallow dives in a pool or a lake have gone bad.

I had dinner with him in Denver once, good fellow. Every time I think of this, it makes me ill. Kelly was planning his retirement, and building a cabin on a hunting property. We never hunted together, but I know a good man when I meet one.

I'm still in shock about Kelly. This is my second terrible news of the week (see RIP Legendary Sheep Guide, Al Vallejo) and I am devastated by both.
I first became aware of Kelly during his posts here about Morgan. Only later when I offered to bring free beer to the 1st Bowsite gathering during the P&Y Convention in Denver in 2009 and we traded some PMs that we realized we both work for the same brewing company.
Over the next 9 years we had a chance to visit each other and become more than just internet friends. Kelly has dined on elk steaks at my house and bought his family to my annual summer BBQ. I visited Kelly and Michelle in Ohio and hosted them at one of my Brewmaster Dinners in Ohio. Over the years I took great pride in saying I knew Kelly as he almost single highhandedly set our HUGE company on a path to being landfill free. See the link.
He was constantly asking when I was coming to hunt with him and I could never find time. I hope he recovers and I will find the time to hunt with him. Good thoughts and prayers for his recovery!

I hunt each fall about fifty miles from Kelly’s camp and always wanted to get a chance to drop by and say hello. Sadly, this will not happen but I am certain that this fall many of my thoughts will be of him, Morgan, and the void that I know that will be in his deer camp. Hunting for him was family and friends.

I spoke to Kelly’s son Tyler last night so the news today came as no surprise. But when he told me what was inevitable I was floored. I have to say that Tyler was very composed. Very at peace. I could tell that he was being strong for his mother and he is doing as good a job as anyone here could possibly imagine.
One thing he told me keeps replaying in my mind. As many of you know Morgan has been Kelly’s hunting partner. His two sons have been busy with life and just didn’t have the drive to hunt like dad. But that was about to change. They had plans to join Kelly, Morgan, and Michele in hunting camp this year. As a hunter I find it very sad that it didn’t get to happen. I’m sure spending some time in that special place doing what their dad had a passion for was a big deal to Kelly.
But that’s not even half the story. This was going to be one of the biggest and best years ever for the Harris family. Morgan will turn 18 and graduate. Both of the boys are getting married. It just blows me away that just like that Kelly will not be present at these monumental events.
I enjoyed my time at Kelly’s hunting property and riding our Harleys into the sunset out in Sturgis. I know he is really happy to get to high five his late best friend Dennis.
Life is precious. This sure put things into perspective. Rest in peace my friend. Hang a stand for me in the happy hunting grounds. Until then keep an eye on your loved ones brother. :-(

Tragic news for sure. Kelly had a guess the score of his deer years ago and I threw a wild ass guess out and won. He sent me a bunch of Miller Lite items hat, shirt, sweatshirt, clock etc. He was a man of his word and he will be sorely missed. During deer season I always looked forward to reading his hunting threads. They always made me laugh. You knew he was a guy that could laugh at himself, most of us could relate. I will never look at a 114" the same way again, and will think about him when one in that class walks by this Fall.

It's so sad that somebody so full of life and always willing to help others is no longer with us. Kelly was a very kind and very generous soul. He certainly left this place in a much better place than he found it. I will miss him! Rest in peace my friend. I was looking for an appropriate photo to post when I found this one he had texted me just a few months ago. He was so happy and so proud to be pouring Blue Moon at the Cincinnati Beer Festival.

I only met Kelly and his family twice. They are salt-of-the-earth folks, genuine, good hearted people that you want to know. I've been meaning to text him to see what he has been up to. My last text to him was returned with a story about Siracha and a visit to the ER which was horrifying and humorous in only the way Kelly could make it.
My heart breaks for Morgan and Michele. I've also met them twice and they are as sweet as can be. If you have read any of Kelly's post you know how much his family meant to him. If you met him in person, you know he would go to hell and back two times over for them, three just to make the point.
I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Kelly as long as many of you, but he made me feel like we had been friends for decades. Based on what I've read, that was Kelly. The world lost a good soul today. My heart goes out to Morgan and Michele and the rest of the Harris clan.
This fall my arrow will have a KH on the vane to remember the man, the hunter and the fragility of life.

Can't say but what has already been said. I too feel like a big piece of Bowsite is missing. I also never met Kelly but it's amazing how you get to feeling like good friends and part of a big family here on this site. I've been thinking about this horrible event nonstop. Truly life is just a vapor that is here for a minute and then vanishes away. I'm extremely sorry to hear this news and feel terrible for Michelle, Morgan, and his sons. They are in my thoughts and prayers.
Of all the people here in Bowsite this Kelly is one of the last people I would've ever expected something like this to happen to. He was clearly a one-of-a-kind guy. I will miss his annual excellent two week adventures.

The shock is hard to understand The loss of a Family member before there time is as hard as it gets to this day I think of my son every day. My day just turned sad, I had no idea until this morning. I have been on bowsite almost since he beginning and feel like Kelly is family even though I never met him, but he shared his life with all of us through Morgans cancer and recovery and his big achievements at his work and big cleavage friday, damn, this really sucks. Man, I've been checking on here wanting to hear better news. I always enjoyed Kelly's posts even if I never did meet him in person. Back when he was keeping us updated on Morgan, I joked I would adopt her since my girls were almost grown and gone. He told me no but offered to let me pay for the boy's college or something similar We had fun with the banter as did everyone I think who conversed with him.
