Has anyone ever done a mixed hunting trip with their family? Jeff.

You may want to clarify your question. What are you calling a "mixed" hunting trip? Hunting and fishing? Hunting and not hunting with family? Hunting more than one species? A lot depends on the age/abilities of your family and if they are interested in hunting.

i have planned several hunting/fishing trips with my wife in tow. she likes to camp, we like to see things/areas we havent been to before, etc. last year we went to CO, sightseeing Mesa Verde, 4 Corners, etc then i spend 5 days in Gunnison NF pretending to elk hunt.

I know some have successfully done both but personally I wouldn’t try it. I would be thinking about hunting when I was supposed to be being the family man and the family part of the trip would suffer. The only way I take my wife is if she’s ok knowing she’ll get treated like a hunting buddy not a wife with emotional needs. Africa or Australia might be different as I could see myself taking advantage of airfare and adding a vacation on the end of the hunt. I know others might see it different but I know my limitations. I would advise to only do it if your willing to shortchange the hunt not your family. I get tunnel vision, lol.

When I hunt I hunt When I vacation I vacation the two cannot be combined without suffering! Do your thing the do whatever is needed but separate them or get a good lawyer!

Sure you can....for example go to Africa the wife and kids do the photo safaris, shopping on Joburg….ride the elephants and hang out at the pool. Just make sure the outfitter gives you the whole lodge. Or I go to S.W Colorado, the wife and kids do the sightseeing shopping and hikes while I`m up in the mountains. When you come out allow a few days together. Go to Florida....the wife and kids stay on the beach and I go kill hogs and gators.

Kauai, hunted the Kalalau Trail with my Daughter, while my Wife and Son were snorkeling and eating shave ice.
I was doing travel work at the time, so the Resort was free, due to Hotel Points I accrued. Cheap Hawaiian Vacation altogether. We only hunted two days, and spent another 4 kicking around Kauai as a Family.

I've mixed vacation with hunting, but with my wife, who hunts. First week vacation and site seeing, second part hunting.

I also did a one day 20hr hunt in Hawaii on the Kalalau trail. It was an awesome day, could see the boats watching dolphins (which is what my wife was doing) from the cliffs. Started at 4 am, hiked until noon, puttered around in an area till about 2, whacked a billy on video, cut him up and hiked er back. Boiled the skull off in the condo (don't ever do this the stench is incredible) and brought it home. Awesome memories. Still surprised I got my damage deposit back I have no idea how long it took for that smell to dissipate.

2 best vacations and memories ever for our family.New Zealand with three other couples and their children . Rented a bus and driver and toured South Island 5 days and hunted 4 days. Namibia with just our family. My son and youngest daughter and I hunt and oldest daughter and wife do not.We had entire lodge to ourselves. Arran ged for nonhunters to go to beach, animal rescue place, local school as well as game drives for photography and just relaxing and being pampered. It was awesome. All would go back .There is a great group that specializes in setting up this sort of thing ,and I highly recommend them.I do not know if I can mention since they are not a sponsor.
