A couple years ago, I missed a doe three times with my longbow. The third shot hit a sapling tree dead center. I was so pissed, I told the tree it could keep my broadhead. Now, I've changed my mind. Before it's totally absorbed into the tree, I intend to cut the tree and remove the section with broadhead and use it as a base for a European mount. My question is, how would I preserve the section so the bark doesn't dry and peel off? Or do I intentionally peel it off and leave the BH in the bare wood? Suggestions?

What kind of tree is it? You possibly could seal both of the cut ends with some kind of sealant or shellac.

I think it's a sugar maple, but could be beech. If I remember correctly, the leaves were yellow. When I first started hunting the property 14 yrs ago, it was just a whip after the place was logged. I'd go with the maple, there aren't any larger beech trees around.
