Baby Hakon Samuel Andersen
I've been fairly quiet this year here, I didn't connect on a buck with the bow but I did have some great bowhunts and passed 7 or 8 really nice bucks. I ended up shooting a decent 8 pt in the attached pic with my muzzleloader just last Saturday the 22nd in Ohio, I've never shot a bigger buck with a gun so that was kinda cool. Anyways I had to rush my pregnant girlfriend to the ER at 2am Friday morning. She ended up needing an emergency C Section around 8:30am and my little Hakon (Hawk-en) which is a Norwegian name meaning "the strong son" was born. He has an enormous name to live up to. He was born at just 24.5 weeks old and weighed 1 pound 12 oz. He is deep in the woods but lucky for him he's got my blood and his Mother Tasha's blood and he will find his way. We are both tough as nails and I know he is too. All I ask is for as many prayers as you guys can give us/him. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you all.
My wife and I will keep you all in our prayers. Hakon will grow up to be a strong young man!
Prayers and congratulations both sent, Matt! My sister is a nurse and used to work in a neonatal unit with preemies. I visited her once at work. It is absolutely amazing what these places accomplish with these tiny bundles of life! Welcome to bowsite as well, Hakon!
Congrats . Prayers sent from Montana and merry Christmas as well. Hunt
Prayers for you guys Matt. A strong son he will be. Amen....
That's a mighty litle fellow. Here's hoping everthing turns out ok for y'all, as I'm sure it will.
Prayers to you and hakon Matt. Special times

I have a 15 year old nephew that was similar. Maybe 23 weeks and a little smaller. He is in high school and doesn't even know the story. Doing just fine, zero problems. Congratulations on the family. You guys will be just fine

Man, hang in there! My buddy's wife delivered twin baby girls in a similar situation, and they are both happy, healthy 10-years-olds now. I'm sure Hakon (cool name!) will do great!
WOW, I pasted this post by several times today, now I am sorry I did! Your family is in our prayers and thoughts! God Bless you and your family and I am sure he will be as tough as his folks!
You are all fighters and you will be victorious in God's name I claim it!
I expect to see his first bow kill posted here!
Your family is in my prayers. My nephew was born just like this. He eventually was top of his class at the Citadel and had a time in the army as a Captain. My niece was born early too and just recently won the 4h 22 caliber competions in Oklahoma. I pray your son will have a long healthy life.
God bless Matt! Prayers sent and many congratsulations! Merry Christmas to you, your wife, and your new son!
Prayers and congrats from SE Pennsylvania. Neonatal nurses are the best of the best and take care of "their" little ones with unbridled dedication and passion.

Thank you so much guys! Today was another good day for both mom and the boy. I read each comment to Tasha and the smile it brought to her face is priceless and so needed at this time. Thank you again and Merry Christmas from Pittsburgh!

Congratulations to you and girlfriend's new arival, and Merry Christmas...
"I ended up shooting a decent 8 pt in the attached pic with my muzzleloader just last Saturday the 22nd in Ohio"
Sorry to inform but if you killed a deer in the state of Ohio with a muzzleloader Saturday the 22nd, you killed it illegally... The 2-day statewide bonus gunseason was Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th, and statewide muzzleloader season doesn't begin until January 5, 2019 through January 8, 2019... Week long statewide firearm season was from November 26 through December 2, 2018... Youth gun was November 17th and 18th... There was no Ohio firearms seasons open on December 22nd...
Prayers from my home here in Utah!
Congrats on having your Son
Good luck, Robb
Prayers for him and your family. Our daughter was born very early and eventually was just fine. Good luck
Merry Christmas Brother and God Bless. Continued prayers your way!
Congratulations to you and mama, Matt! I'm sure your baby boy Hakon, will grow up big and strong, and you'll be posting pics of his first buck here in just a few short years. Gonna be lots of sleepless nights and worries along the way, but it is all worth every moment you'll get to spend with him. I feel for you and Tasha....my wife is 16 weeks pregnant, and everyday I pray everything goes smoothly until she delivers the baby. Just have faith in the Lord, and know he definitely has Hakon in the best possible situation. You will get through the woods. Merry Christmas, and keep us updated.... your family is in my prayers.
Many congratulations and prayers to you all. Merry Christmas as well!!
Congratulations Matt! Prayers going out west from NEPA! ;-)
My daughter was born a few weeks premature and spent several days in NICU. Met a father up there whose son was smaller than yours. It's amazing what prayers and modern medicine can do! (And that was 14 yrs ago ;-)
Prayers to all of you from the homeland!
Congrats on the birth of your boy! Prayers for a healthy baby and Mom from MT.
Our 4th son was born premature. He got a heli ride the day he was born since we don't have a neo unit in Bozeman. I tease him that I still haven't flown in one yet. Hang in there, I know the feeling. No fun. Hope he grows quick, try to enjoy the slow times with him.
Congratulations. Wow that is little! May the good Lord help guide this little guy through any rough patches and watch over you all.
Prayers and congratulations!
Congrats and prayers sent for baby Hakon!
Praying for you and your family.
How is our young hunter doing today? Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Congrats & prayers. Our "little" guy was 8.5 weeks early & 3lb-10oz. Not quite as scary as yours but ours is doing just fine!
May God Bless your beautiful family with health and happiness!
Keeping the prayers going Matt - hope all is well.
For zBone - good job catching Matt's Calendar error, but you were off by a day as well LOL. "Sorry to inform but if you killed a deer in the state of Ohio with a muzzleloader Saturd"ay the 22nd, you killed it illegally... The 2-day statewide bonus gun season was Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th, and statewide muzzleloader season doesn't begin until January 5, 2019 through January 8, 2019... "
I just checked my text he sent me right after he shot the buck - it was Saturday December 15, so it was the bonus gun season. He was off by a week on his original post, and you were off by a day on yours.
FWIW, I recall one of my dad’s patients from the early ‘80s.
Hakon’s a BEAST. They’ll take good care of him.
I used to call those Tinies “cotton-ball kids”: too little for a diaper, so the nurses just used a cotton-ball and a piece o’ tape!
Hows the little fella doing.
Prayer just sent for everyone involved.
I pray no news is good news
Thank you all especially zbone...haha thanks Jack. Ya my son was born on the 21st so I definitely didn't shoot my Ohio buck on the 22nd. Forgive me it's been a rough few days. Our little Hawk is doing well. He's strong and very receptive to anything the Doctors are wanting to do to keep him comfortable. Brain scan tomorrow will tell more. We continue to remain positive and try to enjoy this instead of dread it. We can feel the prayers that are coming in from far and wide and ask you continue to include Hakon in yours. #Hakonstrong
You are going to get good news today! Believe it!
#Hakonstrong....you got this little buddy....prayers sent!
Prayers sent for your family!
Thanks again for all the kind words men. Brain scan showed bleeding which was to be expected with his gestation date of only 24.5 weeks old. Said a babies brain isn't like ours. It can reprogram unlike us. 90% chance of survival at this point but time will tell other issues. Off the record the doc said he is optimistic so we remain hopeful, positive and are trying to enjoy our special time with our little Hawk. Very soon probably in the next few days we will be able to hold him skin to skin which will make us especially mom very, very happy. Going goose hunting in the morn with moms blessing and actually her pushing me to go lol not really feeling it but I'm sure once I am in the great outdoors, I will enjoy it. God bless you all.
That is great to hear. Hope he gets better and stronger every day. More prayers going up.
Matt that’s great news. We’re pulling for you all in my household. God bless
Amen, prayers and positive thoughts will continue your way. Enjoy the hunt!
Amen, prayers and positive thoughts will continue your way. Enjoy the hunt!
Praying everyday brother! God Bless and keep us posted.
Just want to share a story of hope. One of my wife's closest friends recently gave birth to two mighty micro-preemies. Beau and Viviana were less than 24 weeks gestation at birth. Beau was 1#, 10 oz Viviana was 1#6 oz at birth. They had many bumps in the road, too many to mention here but they are both home with the rest of their family today and doing very well. Beau has some supplemental oxygen but Viviana is a small but healthy girl. I have Faith that your son Hakon is going to be fine. Make sure you can find him the best care possible and keep praying. I will be praying with you that our Lord will bless your son and everything will work out in the end. I am happy to share their contact info with you if you think it would help.
I cant wait to hear of the stories 10 years from now of you and your son trekking thru the woods. I am continuing to pray for you and your family.
Still sending prayers and positive thoughts your way!
My prayers for your little guy, Matt, and you and his Mom. A difficult time for the three of you but faith in God will get you through. Been there.
We got to hold our boy for the first time last night and he is doing great! Thanks again for all the support, prayers and kind words. We really appreciate them!
Excellent News! a fighter for sure! Beautifulsmiles in that picture!
Continued prayers, and Happy New Year!
Great news. Still sends prayers . Happy new year.
Fantastic! Great looking family! Prayers from Iowa.
Matt that is awesome! I wish you, your girlfriend and baby Hakon a happy healthy new year! Prayers sent #hakonstrong
It is AMAZING what doctors can do today to keep the youngsters alive when born so small. 30 or 40 years ago and the outcome probably would have been different. Are his lungs okay? I have heard that is one of the last things to form and the first thing they worry about when they are impatient to come out... Best of luck healing to your wife (although watching Hakon get out of ped icu will probably be all the healing she needs).
Fantastic news and thanks for the update. Prayers sent.
Good deal! Happy for y’all. Still praying for the lil dude
Happy New Year! Stay strong little man!
Congrats and prayers for all!
Congrats to the Anderson family. This will soon pass and before you know it Hakon will be running around playing. God Bless.
That's awesome, Matt! The first of many family photos. Happy New Year to you and your family...2019 is going to be great for you all!
Congrats on becoming a dad! Hope you & the family all do well. Raise him right & put a bow in his hand early on. 2019 will be just the beginning...
Great family photo. Wishing you and your family the best
Congrats and continued prayers!
Great pic of the family. Praying all continues to go well.
Praying for you and your wife and son. Our 3 year old girl ended up in Pittsburgh Children's when she was 6 weeks old with some heart issues. They have phenomenal doctors down there! Our youngest is 8 months now and she was in NICU in Erie for 8 days when she was born. NICU nurses are awesome! The fear of not knowing what is happening with your unborn/newly born children is rough. Strength brother!
Prayer sent your way for your family. They can do wonders now.
My youngest brother was born at 24 weeks. Mom was bleeding and went to the hospital for couple days, they sent her home and started bleeding in the car. Dad turned around and mom dropped him on the steps going into the hospital. They revived him and after a month or so sent him home. Doctors said his brain, lungs were not developed enough to live so enjoy him as long as you can. He was such a little thing that he fit in a shoe box for a crib.
We still live out on the farm with no central heat so we put him in a shoe box on top the TV and let the TV run 24-7. We had to feed him every hour with a eye dropper. It was winter and only good effect was being up every hour so to feed him our pot belly stove didn't go out over night as was normal. Still remember getting up for school and the wash basin was froze solid as we had no indoor bathroom.
Long story short he turned out healthy and turns 59 next month.
Great news!!! Happy New Year.
He a fighter and a blessing and you guys are going to be just fine with all the support you are getting and all the wisdom the doctors have. He is a special young man. Oh the stories you are going to be able to tell.
That is one of the most heart warming pictures I have seen here in a while. These type of stories and the ones with the kids getting their first are better to me than the mega buck pictures. (And I do enjoy them) Keep giving updates Matt! Praying for you and your family! Greg
Thank you so much again guys! Hawks lungs are clear and he will likely have the air tube taken out of his throat and just have nostril tubes which is fantastic! His lungs are still maturing though...MK111 that story is insane! But hearing stories like that certainly don't hurt us to hear lol. This kid will have a boy in hand soon...no question. Happy New Year guys! I'll keep you all posted!
Great news Matt! We’re all pulling for you little guy! #Hakonstrong
Great to hear Matt! I'll be looking forward to reading about yours and Hawks bowhunting adventures! Congrats to mom too, good job you guys!
You guys are doing great, your picture says it all ! Everyday is a blessing. Congratulations !
Been following along daily. My wife is about 20 weeks along right now. We’re both praying for you all.
Congrats and prayers to you.
I have several friends that have had preemies, and they are all doing fine. Keep up that skin to skin contact.. very important for development
Hey if you don’t want to post for any reason that’s totally fine and understandable but I’m sure I’m not the only one who is interested in how your story is progressing so don’t worry about people not being interested. I truly hope the day finds you and your son well!
Hawk continues to do well! Had some quality bonding time just him Friday after work and mom visits everyday. Had some family visitors this wknd aslo! Hawk is feeling the love! Thanks again for all the support and interest in baby Hakon! #Hakonstrong
Matt so glad he’s doing well! Prayers sent! #Hakonstrong
Good for you all Matt.
Barely as big as your hand...…..
Keep the faith
Good luck, Robb
Amen! Continued Prayers for All!!!
Continued prayers for all. #Hakonstrong
Just a few years and you will be buying him a bow and arrows. Love the posts and pictures.
Great to hear Matt! Hope everyone is doing well, prayers sent!
That's a great pic of you holding him. Congrats on the continued improvement.
Prayers and good wishes from the North,,,,, sound like the kid is lucky, he has a great father,,,,,
Glad to see he is doing well!!
Great news! Really looking forward to the "going home" photo! #Hakonstrong
Hawk took a big poop yesterday and still gained weight! haha 2.3 pounds! Sounds ridiculously small but he was 1lb 12 oz at birth...he started on steroids yesterday which had him restless but when mom visited him last night, he was sleeping soundly. Looking like his breathing tube will be taken out of his throat and going to a nostril tube soon. He should be much more comfortable then. Also West Penn hospital which is amazing just built a new wing and he is going to have his own private room soon only reason is cause he's a micro premie. Something new they are going to try and its welcomed. Thanks again for all the well wishes. I'll continue to give updates.
Great to hear Matt! #Hakonstrong
Wonderful news! Thanks for sharing. Continued prayers for wellness and strength.
Great news! Fingers crossed and prayers for a long and healthy life!!
Very encouraging! Nice to see the hospital’s working with you.
Keep thinking of the baby Matt - still praying, glad he is packing on some weight.
My son was born premature also. Although not as small as Hawk. Doctor's told us all the doom and gloom stories, it was a little depressing. Don't believe them all, said he would be small for his age and may have learning disabilities. Happy to say 22 years later he is 6'7" 290 played 3 years of D1 football and is now in his senior year of Mechanical Engineering. Keep the faith man you and Hawk will have alot of hunts ahead of you. He killed his first elk with my old 75 lb. recurve this fall and missed a big 6 pt. Was the best hunting season I have ever had. Prayers everyday for you and your boy.
Wow. That picture really puts it in perspective. What a miracle. Keep growing Hawk! Continued prayers.
Hawk is here to stay.
Awesome to see he’s coming along!
This is the most important thread running here...and a real inspiration you two are!
When he gets big enough, you bring him to TN and we will put a fly rod in his hand! Him and my 8 month old boy would have a blast.
Thank you so much guys. Reading these comments is so uplifting and makes mom and I smile! Great news continues!! Hawk got his breathing tube taken out of his throat and is on a nostril ventilator! And he looks like dad! haha I am so proud of my boy! I would love to take him fly fishing with you and your boy Panther Bone lol Apparently he is going to be the first baby to be placed in the new wing at West Penn Hospital which is kinda cool! Thanks to all those following along. I will continue to update.
My favorite wisecrack is to tell a guy “Wow, he looks just like his you! Poor kid...”
He looks to be doing really well, though - seems to have real good color and appears to be putting on weight. Good job, Mommy!!
Best to all three of you.. keep the faith!
What a tough fella. Nothing will stop him in life. So great. Love checking this thread.
Following your thread everyday. There are lots of people praying and thinking of you everyday. Awesome....the whole thing is awesome!!
Great pictures and even better news. Thanks for posting! Hunt
Great news. Thanks for the update, my whole family is following.
Loss for words. Very glad for you all of you !!
Great news Matt! One day, sometimes one hour, at a time! #Hakonstrong
Wow, what a story Matt, sorry I didn't see this thread until today, so while my prayers are late, just call me the guy coming in relief ;) He looks to be making progress and very thankful to hear that. Thanks for the continued updates. He's already bigger than a decent walleye, so that's getting there already! All the best!
Great news! Such an inspirational little boy!! That little guy is tough as nails and he's gonna make his parents (more) proud!!
God is great! Little dude is going to be good.
It always amazes me how preemies seem to do so well in life. I have known 3 in my family alone and they all did well at whatever they set their mind to do. Still praying for you.
lots of prayers sent. Glad things are going so well.
Just saw this post, awesome news Matt. Hakon does look like you, with one exception, he's got more hair... lol. Prayers sent from AZ for continued good news and God Bless.
More prayers and thanks for the update.
Hey guys, sorry it's been a minute. I'm on a new job site and we don't have internet yet. I do most of my bowsiting on company time lol and I don't do bowsite mobile yet..Hawk continues to do well! He did get moved into the new wing at West Penn and it is amazing! There was some concern for a possible infection last wknd but all results came back negative so all good. Thanks again for all your support and kind words! Hoping to get out with the Flintlock tomorrow and I'm taking mom pheasant hunting at a game preserve on Sunday so we're going to enjoy the great outdoors some which will be great!
Keep on keepin on Matt. Great to hear the little guy is doing well! #Hakonstrong
Thanks for the updates, Matt. Still keeping Hakon in our thoughts and prayers and very happy to see him and his parents doing so well!
What a great story for the New Year. Inspirational for sure. My best to you three. Paul
Fantastic news today from the docs! The original brain scan did show bleeding of Hakon's brain in 2 spots which we were prepared for as there was a high probability of a bleed him being so immature. One was significant and the other not so much. They gave us hope in saying how amazing babies brains are in "reprogramming" themselves unlike adults. Still scary to hear. Today's brain scan showed the worse of the 2 bleeds was diffusing and would more than likely continue to do so! AND there is no signs of any brain damage! I am so happy! My little Hawk is so damn strong and such a fighter! Thanks again for all those following along, all the prayers and support continue to work! #HakonStrong
That is great news! You've got a fighter on your hands.
a true blessing and answered prayers. Your family is in the bet of hands.
That is great to hear! He is a fighter and god is great! Prayers sent #Hakonstrong
I am just seeing your thread for the first time. What an inspiring little fighter Hawk is!!!
More thoughts and prayers sent to you and your family from MN!
More great news! So amazing! We are still keeping Hakon in our prayers!
Good to hear things are progressing for little Hawk and Mom and Dad. Went through similar things with my son when he was born and spent a couple months in the hospital before he could come home. Was a scary time. He was home from semester break now and we were shooting our bows together at the range a couple days ago. He returned yesterday to school as a senior in college! Keep the faith and my prayers for the three of you.
Good on y’all for keeping on, right by little man’s side.
So happy for all of you! Thanks for keeping us updated!
Prayers answered! Very happy for you and your family!
Blessings to the medical staff.
Love this! Keep the updates coming. Greg
Great news!! Thanks for posting the updates.
Fantastic news! God bless little Hawk.
YES! Great news. We still say prayers for you guys at dinner.
Sending prayers your way. Your little guy is in great hands. Both of my girls were born at West Penn. The new NIC U is fantastic and a great asset to Western PA. Wishing you and your family all the best.
I too am just seeing this post. Sounds like you have a fighter there!
Prayers for you all!!!
Great news! What a story...Here's to keeping things going in the right direction! Wishing you and your family the best...
That is awesome news. Tough way to start out in life but I am sure he will be stronger for it! Continued prayers from MN.
It's always impressive to hear stories about how resilient children can be.....How much does Hawk weight now?
Thank you so much guys! Hawk short for Hakon (Hawken) a Norwegian name meaning the "strongest son" was born Dec 21st at only 24.5 weeks gestation at 1 lb 12 oz. He is doing great but has a long way to go is all I can say. He's just over one month old and as of last night weighed in at 2 lb 10 oz. I read all of these comments to mom as she's not a bowsiter lol and really means a lot to us both. Thank you again, you guys are the best and I tell Hawk about all these comments too and how you all want to see pics of him with his first bow kill lol
Still in our thoughts and prayers. Hope you are all doing well!
I was happy to see your post! Keep up the good fight Hakon!
Glad to hear he is putting on some lb's!
Continued prayers from AZ!
Hey all! Hawk update, he continues to do well! Some ups and downs just as they said..He is almost 3 lbs! As of last night he was 2lbs 15 oz, can't wait till he hits 3lbs! Finally they have been able to stay on regular feedings, for a while they had to interrupt his feedings every few days due to giving him blood or medicine of some sort. They are now adding calories to his milk so he's been able to pack it on. His oxygen is still rather high though..18-21% is what we breath but premies are often much higher than that and prolonged high oxygen can lead to other issues so we're hoping he gets his oxygen lowered soon..he's currently between 30 and 60% oxygen. Here is a pic from the other day I was playing some Zepplin for him and he seemed to dig it!
He's growing well! Hoping that he stays on track and is able to go home soon!
Thank you for the updates!
Thanks for the update. Still praying for Hawk and family.
Hakon is in great hands, from his folks to his docs, blessings to you all.
Prayers sent to baby Hakon and his parents during these trying times! #Hakonstrong
Enjoying the updates. Prayers for the little fellar!
nice he is packing it on now. Great to see him coming along.
Good to see him growing! Prayers sent. Hunt
You bet- he's doing great! He's been in my prayers!
Funny pic from today! As I said, the higher oxygen can lead to certain issues including eye issues. He had his first eye exam today and it came back perfect. He has come a long way since he was born at just 24 weeks gestation weighing only 1lb 12 oz...he is now at 32 weeks gestation and weighing in at a wopping 3lbs 12 oz. #HakonStrong Thank you all for your continued support and prayers! Also I have a deposit on a male fox red lab that I'll be getting the end of March. I grew up with dogs and want Hawk to do so as well!
LOL! That's hilarious, and great all at the same time! Praise the Lord for these blessings!
Great news. He’s gonna have a story to tell, for sure!
That's awesome!!! He's a stud and will continue to get stronger:)
I am so happy to know this young child is doing do well. God bless.
Great news Matt and nice to see his packing on the weight! #Hakonstrong
Great picture! He is doing amazing! So glad to see him getting bigger and stronger!
Awesome news, prayers that he continues to do well!
Awesome news, prayers that he continues to do well!
Fantastic! Thanks for keeping us updated. Still looking forward to that "Going Home" photo!
Awesome news! Keep up the good fight!
Excellent! Every young man should have a dog to show them the way, he’s gonna be just fine.
Glad to hear he continues to improve!! Can’t wait to see some puppy and Hawk pics.
Just saw and read this thread for the first time. What a wonderful story of love and survival. Congrats to you and your family, and prayers for continued God's blessings! TK
A new puppy and baby, life is good.. God bless your family from CA
Keep growing strong, Hakon! You got prayers coming your way from all around the world, buddy! That finger in his nose means he's starting to behave like the rest of us! :)
Love the thread of hope... best
Amazing, just amazing what can be done these days. To think that babies are able to be legally killed at the age Hawk came out...and when you see the fight he's got you've just got to be proud of him as a papa!! I can't imagine all the struggles it's put in the rest of your lives as literally everything else comes to a screeching halt as you focus on your boy. All I can do is pray and wish you the best of luck with everything, and good on the boy, so happy to see he is developing the right way and the eye test came back with good news. Thanks for the update Matt.
Thanks as always for all the kind words guys! Hawk continues to improve and grow, he is now over 4 lbs AND just today he was taken out of his little incubator and placed in a normal crib! I didn't mention it but his throat tube ventilator was replaced with a nostril ventilator last week also! #HakonStrong
Heck yeah!!! Great news! On his way:)
God is good. Keep climbin’ Hawk and fam! One day, he’s gonna get to the peak and begin to soar!
What an awesome little dude he is! Best news all week! Ya'll are blessed, friend.
Nice! Keep it up little buddy!
Eyes open and he's thinking what the hell! I gotta get home,Dad! Cute little guy. And more prayers for all of you.
Great news Matt! So happy for you!!
Yeah baby! The wife asked me on Thursday last week about any updates. I'll let her know. Keep up the great work and we'll keep sending prayers and positive thoughts!
That’s wonderful news. Keep growing little buddy!!
Thanks for the update! Good stuff!
Thank you all so much, I can't believe how some of you're wives are asking lol What an amazing bunch you all are! Keep em coming! The first night Hawk was here, I explained to him how he's deep in the woods but not to be frightened. The woods are an amazing place if you know how to navigate. I told him to climb to the highest peaks and ridges so he can see in all directions and maybe find a course. To follow streams and rivers because they can possibly lead him to where he needs to go. How the sun rises in the east and sets in the west and to just hunker down and make a fire if he's lost; not to panic or be scared. I feel he's not been hunkered down lately but travelling and finding his way...we couldn't be more proud of him! His mother picked up on that term I said and is currently making a sign to hang in his room saying "Hunker down and make a fire"
Nice Matt! Emotions are invested by a lot more than post. I’ll bet we’re all praying and checking on hawks progress. Good job hawk!
Great News Man! So Happy to hear it, and it sounds like his old man is already giving him some really good advise!
Continued prayers from AZ
Best news of the day! Very inspiring. That hospital is also doing an amazing job as are the parents. God bless.
Great news, you have a fine looking young man. I have people that work for me that now ask for updates on Hawk. We are all pulling and praying
Love these updates! Still praying for the whole family!
Keeping climbing little man! Mom and dad have got your anchor rope.
That is awesome. Lots of people wishing you all well. Amazing.
Sounds like Hakon has pretty cool parents! Keep trekking, little man!
Outlook is very promising looking good Lewis
Matt, just reading this for the first time. Love your boys name and I'm happy he's been improving every week. Congrats to you guys!
Prayers sent your way from Morgan County for continued good news! HJ
Great to hear the progress he’s making. Keep on keepin on little guy! #Hakonstrong
Thank you so much for the awesome replies and private messages. Truly...
Hakon is now over 5 pounds and was recently fitted for a CPAP which he'll take home with him once he's ready to go. He's still got till the earliest April 10th, his original due date, before he can leave but will likely stay a bit longer. He needs to be able to breath 21% oxygen on his own and feed(suck, swallow and not choke) on his mothers milk. Not an easy task for all babies. Anyways, just wanted to update you all and show of his first set of camo!
Congratulations Matt as little Hakon keeps reaching more mile stones. Thanks for the update and like the camo!
God bless him. Stronger by the day!
Thanks for the update, awesome news! I like the camo as well!

Matt, I am just seeing this but sending tons of prayers. It sounds like he is fighting strong and growing nicely!
Prayers for you guys. That's one tough kiddo you have there! My granddaughter was born 3 months early. She is perfect. It's amazing what they can do for them now days. Very stressful time in our lives. I'm sure you guys have had your ups & downs.
Great news! Little dude is certainly a fighter! Prayers at work!
He's looking good...Bet Dad & Mom are excited to finally get him home! Wish the 3 of you all the best!
Way to go Hakon! He'll be home before you know it. Thanks for sharing Matt.
Hakon update, he's doing so well! There was a potential scare for a genetic issue since he sticks his tongue out often(1 of many signs/symptoms of Beckwith/wiedemann syndrom) but after 3 long weeks, the tests came back normal. Think it's just a learned behavior since he had a throat tube in his throat for 3 long months..poor guy. Anyways he's now 5 and a half pounds, has slowly started breast feeding and latches on just fine as well as bottle feeding. He needs to work there but that's perfectly normal and just fine with me. They have been pushing him since he's been doing so well and I am ok with that too. If he pushes back, they back off. Today while changing his diapers and sheets the nurse took all his tubes out for just a few minutes so there wasn't a tangled mess and it's easier and at this point he's ok for that. She said he seemed happier and was doing just fine so after doctor rounds they discussed trying him out for a longer period without any supplemental oxygen or assistance and he is doing amazing! Most of the day in fact, I am so proud of him, he is so damn strong and tough! Very much looking forward to seeing him grow into an amazing boy and eventually man! His grandma had't seen him in months but she was ecstatic to see and hold him. She can't wait to spoil him as well and I think he loves her too lol
So awesome! Prayers still coming your way!
Great news Matt. You guys will be hunting together before you know it. Continued prayers!
