I finally got my Cape Buffalo mount back from Africa. I'm curious to see what the buff will score using the SCI method. I can't find any detail regarding measuring the boss's. Can anyone tell me how to accurately measure Cape Buffalo boss's?

Get the appropriate score sheet applicable for Cape buffalo off of SCI website and follow directions on the score sheet.

Mr. PAstrinkink, Thank you so much for the info. My problem was measuring the boss. I was not sure if I should include the front & back of the boss or just a straight line across the boss. The info you supplied covered my concern. Appears my buff will score approx. 108.

Thanks for the info.

I used the following: Mathews Halon 32/6 set at 65lbs with 28.5 dl, letoff = 85% Arrows were Easton FMJ-DG 250's with 124gr brass inserts & Blazers . Broad-head is Bishop 315gr ,single bevel 2-blade. Total arrow weight was 964gr. My Halon shot the FMJ at 198fps. & it was super tuned to the Halon. FOC = 22%, K/E = 83.07, Momentum = 0.850 I shot the buff at 22 yards & got 25" of penetration.

It still amazes me what a lethal killing machine a bow and arrow are. Nicely done.

I was concerned regarding penetration because I was only shooting 65lbs.. After the bull was down and set up for pictures, I shot it again broadside at 21 yards.. I hit it right above the front leg.. arrow went in about 25”. The broadhead was sticking out the exit side about 2”.. due to shoulder problems, 65lbs was all I could handle at that time.. PS: I had a total shoulder replacement two weeks ago..... getting old really sucks!
