My year looking back...2018

I’ve been a part of Bowsite for a numerous amount of years and have met some pretty great people from here. Some of you I have never met but we keep in touch and share stories. It’s a great thing. I’ll share 2018 with short recaps of all my pix. Hope everyone enjoys
I participated in a tourney that was giving away brand new bows in the beginning of the year. Ended up losing to a shoot off but won the bow I wanted. A Mathews triax. Hey off to a good start. Time to get this baby ready to hunt!
Fun times getting dialed before the season
First animal of the year was a spring turkey. Very fun an action packed hunt. Wish I could post quick videos on here to show you the action. Great memory.
Took a few friends out and helped them as well.
In May is shot in the state broadhead tourney with the triax. Ended up doing pretty well in a very tough tournament. Learned a lot about wind drift and such. But fortunately so did everyone else :-)
I’m very fortunate with my profession I can earn a whole lot of time off. This year I took off 64 consecutive days to hunt August and September and I had a full plate :-)
First up was an antelope tag I drew in my home state. Scouting was slim as I saved all my time for the hunt. I found a good water hole that had lots of wildlife action.
First day this coyote pup made the mistake of comin to drink. 32 yards later he was toast. This was the only pic I took cuz I saw antelope just out of view from the blind
I blew one legit chance on the water being too patient and was kickin myself in the ass later in the week as it proved my only opportunity there. I waited 4 days dark to dark and never had another antelope in range. Hot temps really test your mental toughness.
I changed up my game plan and tried a new area. First day proved it was a smart move. Tag punched :-)
Next up was deer season as I set after a buck I had a little history with. Didn’t take long for him to slip and I came to full draw.
One of my favorite bucks I’ve ever arrowed

I had an area that was producing bear sign that was covered in black berries. I setup a stand on an old road and took a break from deer hunting. I swear to god this was complete luck as first evening the bear came and walked right to the base of my tree and we had a 30 second stare down before he tried to slip away. One quick look back at 25 yards was a bad move for yogi :-)
I’ve had a few people say “I didn’t know there were grizzlies in this area” ha

Good reference for head size. This bear truly was a giant boar.

Next hunt was for my second deer tag. I waited for 5 evenings before finally getting my chance at this buck. One well placed arrow at 23 yards and he was mine
Next hunt was one of all time favorite hunts I’ve ever been on. I punched my tag earlier than I really wanted to but I couldn’t pass him up. This is my biggest archery bull to date. How I found him.
The work begins. Rough pack out
I have caught that September bug and find myself living for this month. So much fun looking back.
Couple fall turkey hunts around home.
Next up was a trip to the PNW for a late season elk and black tail hunt. Roosevelt elk was something new to me and I learned a ton. I teamed up with an elk slayer and he put me in the middle of em. I owe it all to him. All I did was stalk and shoot. Lots of fun.

This was my last hunt with my little brother. Wasn’t about size on this hunt I just wanted to spend time hunting with him and bring home some meat. We grew up hunting together so getting to get back in the woods with him was time cherished. Fun hunt.
For as long as I can really remember as a kid I always had this dream, this obsession of growing older and hunting all over for various game species. Experiencing this great world we have. It seemed so out of reach, coming from a non hunting family, to dream something I never thought I’d get to actually experience. I’m very humbled and grateful to be able to live what I would say is “My Dream” and to be able to share it with people who have the same passion and appreciation for this stuff as I do. So much to be thankful for. 2018 was really great to me on many levels. Certainly fortunate for the luck that’s been thrown my way on hunts and life in general this year. Thank you for checking this out and I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have a blessed New Years.
Joe...you had a heck of a year ! Congrats !!
Heck yeah!! Way to go, keep on living my friend!
Just a machine. Always enjoy your threads. Just doing what you do. Here’s to a even better 2019. Hunt
What a season! You are an inspiration to many. Congrats on another incredible year. Love the photos!
Incredible year Joe. Congrats! Always look forward to your trophy photos! Well done!
That's a lot of killing! Congrats, Joe!
Thanks for sharing! Looks like you had a great year; hopefully 2019 treats you just as well!
Congratulations on another great season. Sounds like you put the time in and earned them all. What's in the plans for 2019 ?
You could have parked the truck a little farther away from your bull to make the “rough pack out” a LITTLE more believable ;-)
Congrats on another action packed, wildly successful year, Joe! I thought you had been holding information out on me when you sent me a pic of your bear. It sure did look like a grizzly to me at first glance! Definitely one of the coolest markings on a bear that I’ve seen. Gonna be tuff to beat ‘18, but the critters in 2019 had best beware. Congrats again, buddy!
Slayer Outstanding! My favorite part is the 64 days off. That alone would be a dream come true
Give that camera man a raise !!! Good stuff buddy and glad to be a part of most of it.... here’s another pic of that bear’s head for comparison next to Gia.
Joe, What is your camera setup.
Great year man! Always enjoy your pics!
Joehunter you always take some of the best field photo’s! Great adventures shared with friends doesn’t get any better then that Congrats!
What kinda job do you have to be able to take off that kinda time? Have a grandson that I want to steer into that profession.
